In this new work filmed in the spectacular landscapes of Fuerteventura, declared Natural Heritage of Humanity, we will see part of the work done by the Federation of Garrote Canario Fighting along with the Cabildo, island government institution, to promote this traditional indigenous activity, the Garrote Canario or Lata Majorera. We will have the opportunity to see in action the Grand Master Jorge Domínguez developing "Torciadas" with the Garrote, learned directly from the old Majorero Masters like Simeón Alberto. In the Corralejo Dunes, Grand Master Carlos Barrera performs several series of Garrote Canario and Mano Canaria (empty hand) techniques, bringing the martial artist closer to the application and parallelism of these traditional techniques. This natural tatami on a fine blond sand, is the most suitable place to perform Zapatas and Trabas. Also presented are several technical series of work with the Tolete Canario, adapted to the field of Police Defense. An excellent sample not only of techniques, but also of the activities carried out by the Federación de Lucha del Garrote Canario in Fuerteventura, the Island of the Majoreros.

he right center, the balance, is only sustained as a concept within dynamism. That ideal center is just a reference between two extremes, which continually oppose and challenge each other, trying to prevail. The extremes touch, because everything, at its limit, becomes its opposite, but they are also necessary to one another because otherwise they cannot exist. The first shadow appears with the first light, and in life we usually perceive it as a gray gradient. That is why it's difficult to sustain univocal truths, petrified concepts, for everything is in motion and that movement responds to the cycles of becoming. The Universe is not static, and, in its impermanence, it teaches all beings to adapt, to assume change or to be rolled over by it. For us, who live our tiny lives in first person, both singular and plural, all this rinsing of cycles, changes, energies and tensions, seems like something distant, too abstract, a stuff for philosophers! However, ignoring the law does not put us outside its prescription. Sooner or later, charges will reach us, and, as they say, we can't blame the clockmakers! We need perspective to understand the present, and it's not enough with the experience of a life to situate ourselves in it. What we are experiencing today are the fruits of the past, so we must thoroughly examine the current moment and reflect upon it should we want to understand it with the proper perspective. Modern “well-being” societies (far from the old “welldoing” ones of our great-grandparents!) emerge within Western democracies as a positioning and reaction to savage capitalism, at one end, and communism at the other end. While Roosevelt and his ‘new deal’ began a rapprochement, Europe, between the United States of America and the Soviet Union, positioned itself in that paradigm as a champion of the new concept. The outstanding idea was to intervene in the markets to establish social peace and create norms that would allow an

order and a “redistribution of wealth” within the framework of a “free” society. Who can say no to such goals? But as the classics have it, everything is a matter of degrees; a little poison can be medicine, but a lot kills you. The great Sun Tsu said that a good general must know how to see the implicit disadvantages in the advantages, as well as the implicit advantages in the disadvantages. We soon forget that there is no front without a back… and the bigger the front, the bigger the back! The democratic election system every four or six years, not being perfect, and based on the facts, is one of the best systems we have created to organize ourselves. However, it also has its Achilles heel, populism. Nobody is going to dare put the "bell on the cat" if he has to get people's votes; when the moment comes, false promises are eternalized in that process. They all literally govern in the “short term”. A Master of mine once told me: “If you want to destroy something, simply protect it; it will inevitably weaken. Necessity is always the most tyrannical mother...” When the emphasis is placed on (human) rights, and it isn't balanced with obligations, the tip of the scale is unfailingly tilted, the saucer is overcome and finally the healthy democratic virtue is broken. Heavens are paved with good intentions! - the saying goes. Today I offer you free healthcare, free education… Who can be against it? But all that has to be paid... Welcome taxes! A cancer that grows and grows, the more royalties we get... In addition, we must rule the roost! More officials who “work” in slow motion, scrounging their meals and personal contentment. A good friend of mine, after striving all his life to make up a living, confessed to me: “In my next life I'll apply for janitor!” Up to where you have to order, you have to manage, you have to decide... and then who controls the controller? The division of powers was the response of the founding fathers of the American constitution; that and a strong civil society, free press, etc., but since everything that is overprotected declines, what can we expect? Nobody wants to hear the truth because nobody likes it.

They have sold us so many things… That pyramidal scam of the pensions, which is already clearing its throat in its old age... Public health, exhausted and numb after a pandemic that has shown all its weaknesses... Public education, down in free fall, unquestionably shaped more and more into an ideological training... Without a culture of effort, of merit, what can we expect from those who come behind? "Do not trust gifts - my grandfather used to say There is no such thing as a free lunch..." Oshawa, the father of macrobiotics, said: "Trust only in yourselves, in your supreme judgment, follow your own path. Trust no Master. Listen, practice, check and understand for yourselves. Be free!" Are we freer now than before? Or have we simply exchanged stickers and cards for comfort (well-being)? We yielded in little things in exchange for big promises, forgetting that once the tip gets in, the rest goes on without anybody stopping it... See the seemingly banal case of safety belts in cars (it's not the first time I quote it!). Its use was decreed mandatory, or otherwise punishable. Why did we accept it? Their excuse was simple: If you get hurt, we have to pay the public health bill. Leaving aside the small detail that my body is mine, at least ask me first; I might just as well decide not to use the safety belt and sign up for private health for life; or take out private insurance; or simply exempt you from all responsibility and assume mine, as a free owner of my body... Where should I sign?

Established the precedents, the rest follows behind by pure logic. Austria has made vaccination obligatory under this principle, for it's clear that neither did the immunity of the herd occur with 80% of the vaccinated individuals as they had promised, nor do the vaccinated ones infect less than those who are not. We sold our freedom for a plate of lentils, and we permitted that the natural greed of all the rulers carry them on a platform on the path of fierce populism, thus giving naturalization letter to histrionic characters, messianic personalities and operetta egomaniacs, who are delighted to see how their time is arrived, the time in which everything is allowed for them. Clowns, of course, but dangerous clowns, and it's not smart to laugh at all their jokes.

Introduction to Gracie Intermediate The problem we have in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is that many practitioners, even if they start euphoric and enthusiastic, that once they reach blue belt, they feel so exhausted that they only think of not continuing the path; they prefer to stop and be satisfied with what they have achieved so far. In fact, achieving blue belt is not as easy as it is in other martial arts or combat sports. But why is that? The examination in Gracie (Brazilian) Jiu-Jitsu is conducted without a specific (internationally recognized) “way” or “method”. Each school can practically have its own way of testing. This gives students the opportunity to be tested by the person they have chosen as their teacher/trainer. Based on the curriculum and focus of the main teacher, which may be BJJ sports competition, MMA and/or selfdefense, he/she will be accompanied and tested daily based on the requirements set by the school principal. In our case, my brother Demetrio and I decided to follow the pr ogram given to us by one of the greatest and most important students of the founders of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Based on the teachings of the great Grand Master Pedro Hemetério, we put together a program of 54 lessons that teaches all the material in four parts (Fundamentals, Intermediate, Advanced I and Advanced II).

Gracie Jiu Jitsu “In Gracie Intermediate we take an important step forward in that you will learn new positions and techniques. In addition, you will gain considerable control over your opponent, your techniques will become more fluid and your finishing techniques more efficient.”

Gracie Jiu Jitsu s we trained under the direct guidance of “Professor Pedro” (as we students affectionately called our grandmaster), we learned that in addition to the 54-lesson program, there were other technical and tactical knowledge that he imparted to us. We later simply called this part “Alternative Lessons”. So, let's back up for a moment to answer the question “Why so many quit after achieving blue belt”: it can take several years to achieve the first belt color in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. This is because for most of us GJJ practitioners, blue belt is not only considered the “first” higher level, but the understanding of the fundamentals is achieved, which is very important in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the book “Simplicity” by Edward DeBono, but much of that book fits perfectly with the way we teach Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Learning Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is almost like learning your ABCs backwards. You start with the letter “Z” and go backwards to the “A”. The standing and ground fighting have much more in common in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu than in any other style or system. Nowadays, teachers like to mix different styles and systems according to their own credo and needs, sometimes paying little or almost no attention to the students' needs. Professor Pedro always questioned the way I would demonstrate and explain a technique. He was always very critical with his students and challenged us to always give the best of ourselves.

No-Gi) and can be adapted depending on what the subject is, it is just much more than just sparring. With the help of randori you will be able to achieve and develop higher skills. When you realize the importance of Randori, your skills will reach another level.”

Gracie Jiu Jitsu In our Vacirca Brothers - Gracie Jiu-Jitsu classes, we don't teach single applications, but we show scenarios that can be progressive. The scenario can start simply with defending against a hook punch, but then it evolves into more possibilities and alternatives, thus you also learn to adapt and act intuitively, and not to fixate too tightly on set sequences. If the instructor you have chosen is focused on BJJ competition, he may also expect you to have some competitive experience before you reach blue belt. Should he go more in the MMA direction (Mixed Martial Arts, Shooto, etc.), again, you may soon be in the “Octagon” or boxing ring as well. We have no such requirements with us, since our focus is on self-defense. If you have us as “examiners”, you will experience that we have very high standards, at least in terms of “technical” knowledge; however, it can be achieved by anyone who will work hard on himself. To go from white to blue, practitioners must remain faithful to the Gracie Fundamentals and strive to execute the techniques “correctly, accurately and with the right timing”; it is not a question of “speed and power”.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Strictly speaking, there are many other details that are more important in this first level, such as: Character and manners (inside and outside the Tatame); sense of politeness and teamwork; positioning and tactics; correct posture; the relationship between attack and defense and vice versa; confidence in demonstrating and explaining; relaxation, even when under the highest pressure; knowing how to use pressure to your advantage; mental and physical alertness. If you keep these points in mind in your daily training, you will achieve a much greater understanding of the big picture. However, to gain a greater understanding, “Randori” is important. Randori is a Japanese term that explains sparring with control. The word “sparring” is quickly associated with what Western boxers do in the ring for free contact training; but again, Randori is much more than that. Even though in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu we train in Randori with and without strikes, can take place with and without Gi jacket (aka. No-Gi) and can be adapted depending on what the subject is, it is just much more than just sparring. With the help of randori you will be able to achieve and develop higher skills. When you realize the importance of Randori, your skills will reach another level.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu IMPROVEMENT AS PART OF OUR SUCCESS Our new DVD called GRACIE INTERMEDIATE will include lessons 24 to 34. In some lessons will be included three or more scenarios. Remember that a single lesson should be trained for at least a week, several times a week. If you train only one day a week, a single lesson can last even two to three weeks. Remember: not quantity, but always quality, or as my brother Demetrio always says, “Less is more!” Improvement is a part of our successful Vacirca Brothers strategy that goes beyond the dictionary definition of the word. Improvement is a MIND-SET for us and is inextricably linked to maintaining and improving standards. Continuous improvement is also closely tied to innovation, where we employ a strategy of “small incremental” improvements. Our strategy for success clearly outlines the responsibility for maintaining the standards as set forth by the founders of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Our view of teaching and leading boils down to one imperative: maintain and improve standards. The DVD is mainly aimed at people who are preparing for the purple belt. However, it is useful for anyone who is ready to learn more about the next level. You will gain a better understanding of why the Gracie Fundamentals are so important and why it requires, at the beginning of your journey, this serious effort and commitment. yourself (and/or your students) by giving you a glimpse into the future of a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt holder. Our Gracie Fundamentals students learn that: patience (control), precision and timing, are the first three basic principles. In Gracie Intermediate we take an important step forward in that you will learn new positions and techniques. In addition, you will gain considerable control over your opponent, your techniques will become more fluid and your finishing techniques more efficient. You must invest the necessary “time in belt” before moving on to the next program. Practicing these techniques too early is like learning to defend yourself against a knife when you don't know how to fight with a knife! If you are a person who has just passed your blue belt and despite the success was almost ready to quit or thinking of giving up, I highly recommend you look at our latest DVD Gracie Intermediate: This material helps people who feel lost in Gracie (Brazilian) JiuJitsu. Regardless of what the reason is that you have lost interest in it, our new DVD will help you understand the connection between “Gracie Fundamentals” and “Gracie Advanced” (which we will be working on soon). Of course, the Gracie Intermediate DVD will be a great and important support for all our affiliated and associated instructors and partner schools. It will

Thanks to my very successful career as a young man in industrial production and as a leader of hundreds of employees and consultancies around the world, my background in Quality Management has helped me with the “Japanese” (or rather the TPS/Total Production System) way of KAIZEN. KAIZEN means incremental, never-ending improvement, doing “little things” better, setting - and achieving - higher and higher standards. Recently, a student of mine attended a Krav Maga seminar, and said to me, "Franco, I was surprised when the KM instructor showed several stance and ground techniques that were really trained as I have been trained by you for years!" Another friend commented, "I took a Wing Chun class before the pandemic, and the ground techniques were one hundred percent from our Gracie Fundamentals!" I just commented, "I can't be surprised, because smart martial arts instructors always get smart! You also try to stay on the ball in our industry and update when necessary."

In our new instructional video Gracie Intermediate you will see not only a "re-make". The techniques have improved with our knowledge. We have learned a lot of new things in these years, both in training and teaching, and all this is now visible in this new material. At a certain point, it's the little things that just make the difference. I always explain it like this: let's take a shoulder lever, for example the "Americana" (English "Chicken-Wing", or "Figure 4-Lock").

This is the lever our students learn from the "mount" in Gracie Fundamentals, and then again in Gracie Intermediate from the "100 kilo" position..., if I were to photograph the "Americana" from Judo (or other JiuJitsu or Ju-Jutsu styles), they would look exactly the same in a photo, but the execution or the "way there" until I can execute the "Americana" is completely different than ours.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Muscle Memory and the key to "doing it the right way"! Nowadays, BJJ practitioners often believe that you must be fast and fluid to be successful. But is that really the case? I'm sure you've heard of muscle memory. As an athlete, certainly! Well, you should also know that there are a lot of scientific studies that

show that slow movements improve muscle memory. The most important thing is that you do it right! You will be amazed at how quickly the muscles can learn. Take the “Hupa” (also known as “Barriada”; English hip bridge) when defending yourself against a person sitting on top of you: even if the person is much heavier than you, but you tuck your arm and leg properly and bridge your hip completely, you will learn what it means to use leverage properly (Brazilian “Alavança”). Grandmaster

Pedro Hemetério was a true master at using leverage instead of muscle power, but he also always reminded me that perfection is only achieved by repeating the movement as many times as possible. The problem with repetition and doing the movement slowly is that children under 14, when you teach them, find it difficult to repeat the movement several times before moving on to something completely different: They want to “play” and have fun, and repetition doesn't necessarily provide the fun aspect. When training older people, care must be taken to keep motivation high, like children, because again, while they may concentrate better, they will tire more quickly if the movement requires too much activity.

The right mindset that you will train with for life! Instead of dreaming that one day you will reach black belt, go training! The work must be done today, as my father always said: “Prima il dovere poi il piacere” (English, “first the duty, then the pleasure”). Focus on the real things. Instead of trying to do a hundred things at once, take on one or two. Take small steps by keeping your eyes forward. Even if you reach your “in-between” goals, keep your eye on the ball and keep your eyes forward. It doesn't matter what others think or don't think; don't be influenced by what others want or think. Focus on the moment, on the one or two small goals you have set before moving on to the next. To survive means winning! This is what matters in a real street fight

(confrontation). In sports you have the possibility to learn from defeats, but not in self-defense. That's why I always recommend not to train (or practice) self-defense and martial arts at the same time; you need a different mindset if you train self-defense instead of BJJ sport. When, you analyze their performance, ask others to be critical and give you real feedback. After every single “Randori” (English sparring with light contact) I encourage my students to give feedback to their classmates about the Randori, and it can be just a little tip for the next round, that's good enough. Make sure you put more effort into thinking about what went right than what went wrong. No one said criticism is bad; we can't always be equally good. Look for some real role models! By real role models, I mean people in your environment who will help you grow. It's okay to have idols with higher status, but role models from your team or environment can support you and share their experiences with you. In martial arts, you learn that negative thoughts can not only set you back, but also make you quit for good. That's why it's so important to share your experiences with others - you'll see that you're not alone and you're not the only one who has negative thoughts. Teaching and training martial arts are like teaching the first lesson repeatedly. If you do something wrong as a teacher or student, it's not the end of the world. Use the time off to relax and recharge your batteries. Resting your mind and body is just as important as training, sometimes more so. Why did you start martial arts training? Ask yourself again if you love what you are doing! Do you still enjoy it the way you used to? If not, ask yourself why. Again, small but significant changes in your training routine will help you find the fire inside you again. Don't lose the fun of learning and training. Meet with your fellow trainers and instructors even just before training and let them know what's on your mind. After all, the point is to have fun; get in and get out with a smile on your face. Change or even leave the club if you think you have already seen and mastered everything. Don't stop others because you feel lost yourself. Communicate openly and honestly! Talk to your team and get back on the Tatame, but please do it with a POSITIVE attitude. Gracie Fundamentals is our beginner program for adults. In this program, you will learn the 36 core techniques of Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in an safe and cooperative environment. Each one-hour lesson addresses one standing and one ground self-defense technique. You can start the program at any time, without previous experience and, since safety is our number one concern, there is no competitive sparring in this program. Upon successful completion of the Gracie Fundamentals program you will earn your Gracie JiuJitsu Blue Belt which will qualify you for advancement into the Gracie Advanced program. Although Gracie Jiu-Jitsu consists of over 600 techniques, studies of real fights conducted by members of the Gracie Family have shown that 36 techniques have been used more often and with greater success than all the other techniques combined. You need absolutely no experience to start this program. Military Combat Subjectivity and reality! For a long time, there has been talk of the use of the arts of war or self-defense within the urban or even military context. If we observe with discretion, we will see that, from the beginning, the term Martial refers to the God Mars of Roman mythology. Under this bias, Mars, who in Greek mythology is known as Ares, was the son of Jupiter and Juno, while. In summary, the God Mars is described as a powerful warrior and military man who worked for the pacification of Rome.

Military Combat Furthermore, Mars is also known as the god of agriculture. However, unlike his sister Minerva, who represented just and diplomatic warfare, Mars symbolized the bloody warfare, for he characterized by his aggressiveness and violence. Therefore, if we draw a parallel with reality (from Latin Realis), we find that this latter term refers to a circumstance external to human perception and independent of it. Reality represents all the phenomena in the universe whose laws are beyond the reach of the will of man. As a result, it is up to man to know the laws and understand how they have some influence on reality. Existing in some determined way, it can be basic at some point, but it can also serve as a debate in the history of philosophy and science. In fact, it has always been necessary to establish a boundary between the real and the perception of the senses for the purposes of science. In this way, we can observe the various controversies of the past.

rom our first article in Budo International Magazine, our intention is to bring, from an empirical and pragmatic perspective, a vision that refers us to the differentiation between naked and raw reality, and the subjectivity provided by films and ideas that try to represent the concept of security and training. From our vision and proposal, subjectivity is understood characterized as something that varies according to the judgment of each person, which consists of a subject that each individual can interpret his or her own way, which is subjective. In this way, human subjectivity can refer to the feeling of each individual, such as his or her personal opinion on a particular matter. Subjectivity changes according to every person, like personal taste, for example; we all have our own, so it is something subjective. The point of subjectivity varies according to our own feelings and habits; it's an individual reaction and opinion, it's not a passive discussion, since each one assigns a certain value to a specific thing. Subjectivity is formed through the beliefs and values of the individual, with his or her life experiences and stories. The topic of subjectivity is widely debated and studied in psychology, how it is formed, where it comes from, etc. This leads us to think that, in dealing with human protection,

The difference may sound like a jargon-filled distinction of no importance, but this difference is critical to understanding hazard and risk reporting. • A danger is an agent with the potential to cause harm. • Risk measures the probability of harm caused by a danger. Dangers only become risks when there is exposure. Sharks are a danger. But if you never go near the ocean, you won’t be exposed to sharks, and thus you won’t risk a shark attack (okay, all right, even if you go into the ocean, the risk of a shark attack is really very low!). Being able at every moment to get closer to that reality to have less distortion of it will give us a better response capacity. As we all know, in order to win a dangerous situation, the first frontier we must keep in mind is to avoid being exposed to it. As Sun Tzu said: “The supreme art of war is to defeat the enemy without fighting.”

Shihan Carlos Garcia, founder of Kempo Aiki-Jutsu, practitioner, Master and eternal apprentice of martial arts, and representative for Europe of GGM Jack Shamburger of Hawaiian Kenpo, makes a complete introduction to his system, which arises from the fusion of three main martial arts, Kempo, Aikido and Ju-Jutsu, with influences of Karate, Wing-Chun, Kick Boxing, etc.. Hwa Rang Do Discipline PART 4 Address their fears and help them overcome Do not allow them to succumb to their fears but help them to overcome it. For example, if they are afraid of looking under the bed or the closet at night, then help them to look under the bed together to make sure nothing is there. Your goal as a parent, a teacher is to help the child/student to confront their fears and overcome them. Whatever fears that they hang on to in the early years will remain with them for the rest of their lives. And as martial artists, conquering our fears is our greatest and most primary objective.

Teach them how to Swim - it is not a hobby, it is a survival skill As a martial artist, surely, I would suggest that all parents teach their children how to defend themselves. However, that is not as crucial as it is to teach them how to swim. It is not a matter of whether they are going to fall in water or not, it is a matter of when.

Don’t allow them to quit what they started, make sure they finish what they start

This should be obvious, but parents often forget and allow their children to quit when they start whining, crying, and now it become a huge chore for you (the parent) to get them to do it. One way you can avoid this is by having them commit to things in short term. For instance, your child is excited about doing martial arts after they saw some cool movie and nags you every day. So, you find the nearest school and you take your kid to a trial class. Afterwards, you are presented with the various programs and the instructor offers a Black Belt Program, saying that he can get his black belt in 3 years. Hearing that, your son is filled with excitement, jumps up and down and tells you that’s what he wants, and he promises that he’ll be a good boy and do everything you tell him if you sign him up for the Black Belt Program. After a few months, he loses interest as things get more difficult and maybe he also received some reprimand from his instructor. Feeling not so motivated anymore, he begs you (the mom) to not take him anymore to his lessons, promising the same things when you enrolled him. So, you let him quit until the next time when the same thing happens in tennis, in piano lessons and on and on.

Hwa Rang Do One of the biggest complaints I get from adults who have trained in martial arts when they were a child but quit is that they wished they never have quit. Children are excitable and change their minds at whim and as I have said earlier that they rightly do so and must try many different things and experience the world as best they can, and this is why they are filled with wonderment. However, they must also learn the essential foundations of discipline and tenacity, the stick-to-itiveness that is so vital in life to achieve what one desires. Therefore, the remedy is to have them commit to smaller, shorter commitments. Although, the boy wanted the Black Belt Program, you could have said that he can start with 6 months (something worthwhile but not too easy) and then once he completes it then you can revaluate, making an absolute agreement that no matter what, your son has to finish six months. This way, if he decides he doesn’t want to continue after the 6 months, then he is not a quitter as he completed his agreed term and succeeded. This is the way to develop a proper self-image, confidence, and empowerment. This is also the reason why we do not offer Black Belt Programs to beginners and only give them the opportunity once they have reached intermediate rank.

Hwa Rang Do Don’t fight their fights for them, help them to fight their own battles If your child is dealing with a bully at school or even a just a friend that he/she got into a fight with, never speak or standup on your child’s behalf against the aggressor. As difficult as it may be, you must coach them and have them fight their own battles for better or for worse. In their youth when there is minimal harm is where they must learn proper conflict resolution and to standup to their aggressors. If they cannot fight for themselves then they will be crippled for life.

Hold them accountable for what they do and speak Keeping one’s word is essential to developing one’s integrity and honor. This must start at an early age by making sure that the child is held accountable for want they do and speak.

Don’t blame if you don’t want them to blame A great way to teach how to be accountable is first by you starting to never blame and accept responsibility, especially for things gone wrong.

Teach responsibility by giving and sharing responsibilities You shouldn’t dismiss a child for wanting to help by saying that they can’t do it. But rather you should give them little tasks that they can deal with and when they are successful, then reward them with something more challenging. This will surely get them motivated and soon they will take over all of your tasks around the house. There’s nothing to be learned by winning, only more ego; there’s lots to learn in losing. Be there for them to pick them back up when they lose Don’t over protect and don’t tell them that they will always win. That is a falsity and impossible to accomplish. You must redefine what is winning - that what is important is to participate and as long as they have tried their best and never quit, then in your book that is winning.

Hwa Rang Do Don’t compare them to other children There’s is nothing worse for a child than to be compared with others. So, don’t do it!

Don’t medicate! Don’t create dependencies I could write a whole article on this, but no matter what anyone says, giving your children psychoactive drugs to improve their focus and attention span is not the same as getting them glasses because it helps them to see better.

Control your neediness if you want them to stop being needy As hard as it may be to hear, your children or students are not your pets, and they are not here to make you happy or to please you. You are their guardian, parent, teacher, and they depend on you to raise them as they cannot survive without you. Therefore, the single most important task is to help them to become the best human possible.

Do not argue between yourself and your spouse in front of your kids, especially in matters that concern them. As parents, you should not argue in front of your children concerning any matters, but especially in matters that concer n them. Although you may disagree with your spouse, do not protest against each other and try to always show a united front to your children. In order to do this, it is best that you discuss with your spouse in detail on how you want to raise your children and come to an amicable agreement. Going through this list which I have provided would be a good start.

Hwa Rang Do Do not speak badly, ridicule, isolate, discriminate other people in front of them If you want to stop racism, bigotry, hatred, discrimination, then never speak badly of others in front of your children. If while reading through this, you had a thought in your mind that said, “Oh this is not easy,” then I must tell you that nothing is easy. Doing right, doing good, doing what’s best is never easy and in fact nothing is easy because, surely doing wrong, doing bad, doing the worst is also not easy. Life is that way, the more you seek for things which are easy the more difficult it becomes; the more you look for happiness the more miserable you become. It is like the myth of Tantalus, the more he reached for the fruit out of hunger the more it eluded him and the more he reached for the pool of water to drink out of thirst the more it receded. The falsity is that we’re striving for the result without the work. Comfort, peace, happiness is a result of doing right, being good, and living well. Therefore, the focus has to be on seeking the Truth to understand better what is right, not subjectively but objectively; to be good not for others to be good in return, but because that is who you aspire to be; and live well by appreciating each and every day as it is your most precious treasure. Then, by parenting, by teaching you are sharing with others so that they may live at least as you have with the hope that they will live fully in God’s Glory. I will leave you with one anecdote out of countless many. A true story which illustrates the result of discipline out of Hwa Rang Do Love. Over twenty years ago, I child about 8, 9 years old

who joined my school. He had autism and his parents were desperate to find something that could help him. They have tried everything they could find as well as all the things which were recommended by professionals and doctors with no success. In the beginning, he was very shy and introverted and had a hard time fitting it. I treated him like any other student, and no one was told of his autism except for the instructors. I instructed them to treat him like any other kid and to never give him any special treatment. Soon after, he began to enjoy what he was doing and was excited to attend class. So excited, he hardly ever missed a class and even when they had moved away and was much farther from my school, he insisted on attending the classes. Three times a week without fail he would be present. Needless to say, he had the best attendance record among the entire student body. We do not compete much, but we have one annual tour nament that everyone must compete. Leading up to the tournament, the parents shared with me their reservations and I told them that they shouldn’t worry and with all the protective gear, their son is safe from harm. Of course, the boy was very nervous and scared to compete. I told him as well as

Hwa Rang Do all the other students, “We are warriors and when we compete, we are entering a battle. And that when we battle, we are not expected to live and must face death with courage. Therefore, what I expect from all the students is that they must compete, participate, not running away from the battlefield and as long as they can stand and fight without fear and remain standing until the end, then they are champions!” Every year for next the seven years, he fought and lost as quickly as it started. One, two, three and he was out! Often, he got kicked, sending him flying out of the ring falling to the ground as his parents watched on in horror. I could see the parents watching their son trying desperately not to show their fright as I sat in the front doing all I can to remain composed yet inside I was more anxious and nervous for the boy than anyone could imagine, hoping, praying that he doesn’t get hurt and maybe just once he could win. It was heartbreaking for me to watch him lose and being tossed around like a ragdoll every year, every match, imagining how hard it must have been for his parents to witness. I thought, how great would it be if he were to win just once. Then suddenly, he got off the ground and this time, this year after losing for the past 7 years, now as a teenager something had changed. He was more calm and was not moving erratically all over the ring as well as his expression had changed from fear and uncertain doom to one of intensity and focus. He was still in the fight and eventually he won a point. I almost jumped out of my seat and his parents were ecstatic! No one anticipated for him to win, but he finally won, winning a gold medal!

Every year, at our annual awards banquet where hundreds of students, families and friends gather to celebrate, I wanted to share the story of this amazing autistic boy, but I never did. I wanted to tell them how Hwa Rang Do did amazing things for him, how I helped him to transform his life. However, that was for me, for my glory. The one thing I did was not treat him any different and expect him to do the same or better, disciplined the same, criticized the same; I had never told him to his face that he was autistic, and he never said it to me, he never made an excuse out of it. Of course, this is a testament to his parents and their unswerving dedication, commitment, and most of all love for their child. The credit belongs to them and their beloved son. I only thank God for the opportunity. Before I came to Luxembourg, I received a call from this boy, and he wanted to see me. He said he wanted to take me out to lunch. So, we met, and he told me that he is now attending Stanford University and accepted into their Computer Science Program, the best in the nation if not the world. He continued on to thank me and that he appreciated all the lessons I bestowed on him. I wished him well in all that he pursues and told him how immensely proud I was, and that I believe he will move on to achieve great things. As I proceeded to pay for the check, he took it from me and said, “I’m buying sir. That’s the least I can do.” It was one of the most joyous and proud moments in my life and it is for this that I continue…

TEAM Krav Maga I.M.A.D.S. Behind the scenes of Budo International Magazine The first exchanges... Every month, since September 2019, I share through the columns of the famous Budo Inter national Black Belt magazine the trajectory of the International Organization I.M.A.D.S. that I created more than 20 years ago. On this occasion, I take you behind the scenes of a recording session professionally supervised by Alfredo Tucci and his team. At the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 the first verbal exchanges began. Quickly, our exchanges became accomplices... Alfredo knows how to reassure people. Personally, having a deformation for wanting to take each step to perfection, many questions come to mind. Also in this case, Shidoshi Tucci's experience will hit the spot. There are no words or explanations in number, but key points for more than likely success. Therefore, I trust him and his team to segment and structure the technical families that we want to present for this first DVD. The elements are fitting little by little and the date is blocked on the calendar by the entire I.M.A.D.S. group. Hotel rooms and airline tickets booked!

The exit... Meeting at the airport of the entire I.M.A.D.S. team and after checking it... everyone is present! It's obvious, but during a previous trip to Israel, there was one missing!!! There is a festive atmosphere on the plane. Valencia is not far. A soft landing and we are on Spanish soil. The weather is fine now and everyone is smiling. A little negotiation with the taxi driver (advice from our Shidoshi). We head to our hotel, recommended by our good Samaritan, and we are already in the lively streets of Valencia! Hotel with welcoming staff, we enjoyed the large armchairs in the lobby before the arrival of Alfredo, whom we are looking forward to meeting.

The great moment... He is here, I know, even if I don't see him yet. My instructors, who have been chatting in front of the entrance for a while, suddenly fall silent. Finally, he is in front of me with a big smile that invites me to do the same. A first handshake that does not deceive, we are going to have an excellent time in his company. He offers me one of the many books of his that he wrote entitled "Inside the life arena, closing ranks *" a signed copy! Once the introductions are made, he quickly invites us to stroll through the picturesque streets and gives us the good culinary directions. Back to the hotel to review, or more accurately to present the technical menu to the different instructors we didn't have time to prepare with. All gathered in a room, rehearsals follow one another and some discover the scenario on which the DVD will be based. The tension rises, the stress increases, but the atmosphere is very nice, everyone is happy to be there. Once the rehearsals are over and the roles defined, it is time to escape for a while and enjoy this cozy city with a mild climate.

A crazy day... Everyone has made a decision about the studios in which we will have to present our work. We immediately understood that the task was going to be difficult given the limited space that was imposed on us. While all our instructors prepare physically and morally, Alfredo gives me the guidelines. I quickly understand that we are not going to sit idly by. The cameraman shows me the area where we have to stand during our performance, but that's not all! Indeed, the white background of the studio is fragile and does not allow us to lean on it without the risk of falling. So I understand that I will have to revise my presentation a bit, and that in a few minutes!

A few minutes to take your notes... Krav Maga is anything but aesthetic. Therefore, when presenting this system, it has to be deconstructed a bit. It is very difficult to read the defensive movements of a person who defends himself with the principles of Krav Maga, since this system is so expeditious and extremely fast. Properly done, practicing our defense system would have thrown us out of frame on every shot. From a natural practice we had to move to an unnatural practice "staying in an imaginary box". We are happy with the result, no one is injured, and the set is intact!

5-minute break... It's not over yet, a high-speed photo shoot follows. A few bigger "laughs", for the naturalness of some of them shines through. For some, focused pain is necessary to achieve a more natural expression on the face. No teasing, just good humor, really happy to be there. To finish, an interview with the Shidoshi, no time to breathe, no rest for the warriors!

Every minute counts... Settled in the seats behind the stage, it's time to decompress. Time flies, and we are already at the table with Alfredo for a well-deserved lunch. The opportunity to get to know each other a little better, and above all to listen to our Shidoshi. As an extra treat, Alfredo shares behind-thescenes work on the layout of his magazine covers. What kind of photos can make a beautiful cover, what kind of photos will be on the inside pages, the promotion of DVD’s... Every time Alfredo speaks, we learn something, he's so passionate about his work... that it is no longer a job! An unforgettable moment that makes us want to meet again and continue our journey together. As he likes to say, we are now part of the family. What else can I say? There's nothing more to say.

E-bunto: The ancient Wisdom of the Hagumo tradition By e-bunto we mean the set of knowledge inherited and transmitted fr om the spiritual tradition of the Hagumo people, also known by the Japanese as the Shizenjin: the "naturals". The fact that the knowledge makes mention of the r elationship between human beings and the forces of the Universe, could make the layman think that we are dealing with a religion, when de facto the e-bunto is mor e similar to a philosophy or a science in their facts, tools and interests. In the ebunto there is nothing similar to

dogmas, beliefs, not even a specific recommended morality, all of them sine qua non conditions in the most widespr ead r eligions. It has nonetheless formulations and initiation rituals closer to the idea of the shamanic praxis, but unlike most known shamanism systems, it does not make use of any type of herbs, concoctions or any other narcotic element meant to alter states of consciousness.

he e-bunto focuses its interest on understanding how the mystery of the interlocking of the Universe is structured, understanding the forces that compose it and how we can interact with them. True, the e-bunto, like any other path of knowledge, logically tries to remove the veil that hides the truth and puts its emphasis on opening the eyes of the neophyte to other realities and perspectives, both internal and external. If there is a creed in the e-bunto, it's precisely that of the “non-credo” (that is, personally I don’t believe), although that position, far from being a conceited or arrogant attitude denying any other vision, allows us, from the continuous doubt, to attribute legitimacy to the indescribable and interact with it through direct and empirical experiences. A similar attitude seems much more appropriate for a school of philosophy instead of a religion, although such definition could neither fully explain the nature of its essence, since the practice and interrelation with universal forces is not anything theoretical or reflective, but something practical, quotidian and experimental. The translation of the name e-bunto from its original language Rangugo, Shizenjin or Shizengo - is "The great force". Undoubtedly, for ancient people, the force of nature was the greatest of all forces, understanding by nature everything that exists. The "Uni-versus" (the One in motion) is the stage of the interests and studies of the e-bunto; consequently, nothing is outside the sphere of interest. The e-bunto has a very rich cosmogony, expressed in a series of mythological stories known as “Monogatari”. These have been transmitted orally since the XII Century and handed down from Master to disciple. The fact that there is no information about the ebunto - not even on Google! -, is due to the fact that it has always been an esoteric and secret practice and knowledge.

The reason for this secrecy is that this knowledge was all the wealth with which the Hagumo faced the multiple situations of pressure and survival to which they had been exposed from the start. As in the case of so many other formulations and cosmogonies about mysteries (Delphi, Eleusis, Isis, etc.), knowledge was transmitted only to initiates, assuming that it would then be in good hands, or at least "in the hands of ours''. It was not always like this, but the secret was perpetuated to this day, when it traveled to Europe from one of the last colonies of its descendants, in Brazil, where it had been jealously guarded by one of the greatest Masters: Shiniyuke Tazuo Sensei. He taught and formed eight Kotoma Tonbo. As far as I know, one of them was the one who continued his teachings: Shidoshi Jordan Augustus, through whom they reached me. From that moment, and for the first time in history, the existence of this rich tradition was publicly discussed. Since then, aware of its wealth and the few possibilities that its maintenance would have in modern times without these interventions, we have been striving to compile this incredible and enormous legacy in thousands of written documents and videos. As a natural consequence of these activities, new groups of students have been formed in different parts of the world and new Joho

(Shidoshi) have been consecrated, as well as some Tonbo. The Hagumo culture was formed from various tribes among the original inhabitants of the Japanese Islands, tribes of Caucasian origin, such as the Amerindian peoples. The Hagumo suffered persecution from the Yamato from Southeast Asia. These migrations pushed them further north, until they settled on the island of Hokkaido. The long winters and inclement weather kept them safe from Yamato’s voracity, but only for a while. Mingling with many exiles and rebels from other tribes, he certainly added many other traditions to his potential and knowledge, but the acculturation process was always controlled by the strength of an extremely rich and dominant culture. Like the American Indians, the Hagumo had a much more universal idea of the human being than that of other peoples. Lovers of what was theirs, they were not, however, exclusive; if the foreigners passed the test and wished to integrate and live with them, they were accepted as one more, through a ceremony known as Ashakoro, or Hají-meru. Formerly, this initiation included a trial period of 250 moons, along with many other rites. Over time these formal procedures were simplified and started pointing more toward their spiritual function, that is, that of the presentation of the initiate to the forces and vice versa. Very briefly, we would say that the pantheon of the "gods", the universal forces of the Shizen, is composed of nine large fractals. Those forces were called Rangu, later known as Tengu, which we could very well translate as "heavenly dogs" - dogs in the sense of their fidelity to the great One, or "The Great Spirit", named Kamisama in Japanese and Kamanon in Shizengo, that is, in their own language.

“As a natural consequence of these activities, new groups of students have been formed in different parts of the world and new Joho (Shidoshi) have been consecrated, as well as some Tonbo.”

When the totality of the Being is manifested in a division of four phases, the Shizen, just like the Greeks, studied it through the Four Moons and the Four Elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. They also knew and worked with two more elements, Wood and Metal; the first would have correspondence with the human factor, the second with destiny or with the spiritual world, which they treat as if it were itself a Tengu named Kahudo, Unmei. The Metal Element would imply maximum purity, crystallization, the end of a process and, consequently, enlightenment. These frequencies travel in the material world through paths. The Whole expresses itself through these eternal frequencies, but requires a series of catalysts to express its embodiment. The catalysts "qualify" the direction in which the force is expressed towards the event that will materialize it. These "paths" are twelve and are known under the name of Michi no ki. Each of them has its own nature and is polarized into positive and negative. Each path is only expressed through specific events, known as Onishisha. The Onishisha are twelve and each

one of them "speaks through the mouth of a Tengu" in particular; this means that each type of event is predominantly linked to several of the great forces. These Oni (literally "demons", in Japanese), Goro and also Ogoro in shizengo, are also polarized in all phases of elemental energy (fire, water, air, earth, wood and metal), both in positive and negative. The e-bunto studies vibrational frequencies and their correspondences, both structural and functional, and learns to establish relationships with each of them. Understanding the nature of the forces, of the paths that express them and of the events that carry them out, is the elementary basis of the cosmogony of the e-bunto. In its study one learns to use the tools that recognize, interpret and allow the initiate to interact with these forces and with all the spiritual and energetic consequences that surround them. Understanding the nature of the language and the wavelengths that awaken the secret language of these forces is not only something theoretical, but also experimental and his work is based, not on beliefs, but on empiricism, that is, on verification personal through experiences, of how these forces exist and interact on all levels, with those who know how to recognize them, treat them and attend to them with wisdom. There are many subjects studied by the e-bunto: Meditation (Juko), numerology (Su-jutsu), vibratory decoding (Saguru), philosophy and psychology (Nenboga), the use of the power of the word (Kotomaho), foundations of the spiritual (Gareburi), hydrotherapy with plants (Suiburi), how to remove the negative (Zia), history (Rekishi), mythology (Monogatari), etc. The wealth of information and the many subjects that comprise it require an average of 17 years of studies for the complete training of a Shidoshi, although all this is based on very personal parameters, since we are not talking here about a study carried out in an academic way; rather, it's an experimental transit on practical and theoretical knowledge about the physical and metaphysical world. No one can join the e-bunto simply by their own desire or whim. Somehow, one must be invited (or welcomed) by someone who already belongs to his circle. who explain and teach us what are the laws, forms and reasons that prevail in said interaction. For this reason and for belonging to a Japanese tradition of medieval origin, the positions, degrees and hierarchies are extremely and exquisitely respected. E-bunto Masters are not only teachers, they are de facto benefactors of the people they take under their care, so there is respect and affection for those who give themselves in this way to others. The e-bunto shuns anything that smells mystification or self-deception. Therefore, the study of e-bunto requires great sobriety and personal maturity in these spiritual and energetic matters. The accuracy and detail with which each and every aspect of this ancient thaumaturgy was taken care of, speak of the intelligence and the intense level of experiences lived by this culture in such a way that, even today, studying and understanding all that baggage and wisdom is a challenge. Along their way, the adepts prepare themselves physically, altering the energetic configuration of their bubbles, as well as intellectually and spiritually, which enables them to intervene and interact with Tengu and Oni. The intellectual and functional sophistication of these teachings never ceases to amaze everyone who gets close to them. The insight and depth of its approaches, has come over the years to be supported by the discoveries of science and quantum physics, establishing reasons, explanations and ways to understand and admire the enormous wisdom contained in its tradition. Its unique and extremely pragmatic way of dealing with the invisible makes it, to my view, an incomparable legacy among the cultures of antiquity, capable, due to its versatility and empiricism, of evolving and perfecting itself over the centuries, reaching our days miraculously. In conclusion, as you see, the e-bunto cannot be easily labeled. We call it shamanism, because it somehow has connections with that label, especially when it considers the relationship between the Whole and the individual as an irreplaceable direct path of action and understanding. It's a Science; as it doesn't ignore the scientific method, although it's not exclusively slave to it. It is not religion; but it attends to the study of the mystery and the metaphysical. It's philosophy; because it wonders and reflects on the truths, but also learns to apply its conclusions directly and experimentally in the material, as well as in the energetic and spiritual. It's psychology, because man in all his extension, including his mind, is the object of its studies and practices.

Like shamanism, it's also, if you will, a "spiritual medicine", to the extent that everything that illuminates the human being helps him to cure himself of his ills, especially the greatest of them, without a doubt: ignorance. It's not a sect; because it doesn't practice proselytism, nor does it impose moral criteria, nor any obligation on those who approach it, that is not freely accepted; Rather, it helps to open your eyes to manipulation and the many deceptions of the mind, the world, the emotions or spirituality, through the understanding of one's own nature and the Universe and its interactions. The only interest that moves us to spread it is to prevent this treasure of humanity and consciousness from being lost, and to allow with this step that the e-bunto can continue to be a tool for those who will come after us, just as it was for those who lived it and developed it in the past. Our attempt is therefore to perpetuate its essence and traditions, but at the same time adapt the original meaning of its reason for being to the reality of our days; otherwise its permanence would be something static, nonparticipatory... like a piece of museum! If so, we would witness in this generation, the last of such a long and beautiful trajectory of wisdom and intensities, the "swan song" of a jewel, of a wonderful crucible of power, the definitive loss of a touchstone, a tool fantastic for the transformation of consciousness and evolution of human beings. This e-bunto diffusion work is a world premiere, since from the XII century until today, this matter had never been openly discussed. This transgression will allow the ebunto to continue marking many lives, now and later, so that each of them gives the best of itself, thus fulfilling its best destiny in freedom, wisdom and consciousness. However, their secret knowledge will remain that way, as it has always been, only within the reach of those who are initiated into its mysteries. In the words of Shiniyuke Sensei: "The e-bunto is something to be admired by many and known by few." Every

great path carries great responsibility, hence the importance of going through it with impeccability and complete presence of mind, and like any true and rooted path, it must find its way of adapting to changes without ever losing its essence. Women's Self-Defense: Escape to Gain Safety The time an individual spends in the martial arts (both frequency and duration) depends on his or her motivation. While some find it enough to take a few classes or a seminar, others dedicate their lifetimes to the "way." I frequently encounter people with varied reasons for participation in the arts. This chapter is not geared toward the female martial artist, but rather toward women who may have taken a weekend self-defense or a "rape prevention" course, and left either with a false sense of security or feeling more confusion than confidence.

any women never intend to dedicate more than the minimum amount of time it takes for them to feel more confident in an attack situation. Questioning them illustrates the overwhelming worry that the majority of women share: "I'm afraid if it were real, I would just freeze up and forget everything!" The words "forget" and "everything" imply they think they have a lot to remember. Unfortunately, most instructors rarely adapt their art to the average woman. Catering to the particular limitations of these students is essential and requires consideration of the following points: 1. Most men often begin martial arts training with the preconceived notion that they will soon be kicking butt and taking names. A woman, however, sees a radically different and more frightening picture. Her mind is on the serious realities of an attack/rape! Others like her are being assaulted every day; knowing this causes her to develop a legitimate worry (not convoluted by the male ego or delusions of grandeur fostered by Billy Jack movies). 2. Women have a different morphology, generally speaking, from men. And so, they must learn different techniques and principles, which emphasize different qualities (attributes) and use different training methods than the average male martial artist. 3. Finally, most women simply don't put in the same fight time in a selfdefense class that a man might in the dojo. He can get away with learning technique upon technique, kata upon kata, addicted to the black belt "carrot" being dangled in front of him. For these reasons, women who want self-defense will find that the traditional arts' myriad of techniques, usually better suited for a tournament fight than a street attack, simply don't constitute a viable self-defense program. The mentality of "if he does this, then you do that" is ineffective because there are too many things "he" can do! If a specific technique is taught for each possible scenario, the very fear most women express may

well come true - they will freeze up and forget everything. Jeet Kune Do encompasses aspects that perfectly translate into an effective selfdefense approach for women. Two major JKD concepts central to women's self-defense are adaptability and simplicity. Any techniques taught as part of a self-defense program have to be simple; that is, they should be easy to learn, easy to do, and easy to remember. All techniques should also be adaptable; in other words, a technique should work in a variety of situations against a variety of attacks. I developed a program specifically for women and non-martial artists, which addresses these specific needs. This program is called "Escape to Gain Safety." It decreases the fear of forgetting a multitude of techniques, while effectively dealing with most attack scenarios. The way in which a woman is attacked is not of paramount importance in the Escape to Gain Safety program. Rather, the program emphasizes Bruce Lee's concept of attacking the closest target with the longest weapon. A man assaulting a woman rarely (if ever) begins in a stance, jabbing or kicking. Closequarter scenarios (grabs, pulls, or holds) make up a large part (at least 85 percent) of the attacks being considered. Now that the woman's attention is placed on striking a target instead of remembering a technique for each possible situation (there could be an infinite number of these), where to hit becomes the all-important question. Virtually every attack exposes effective targets for a solid strike. There are only four targets to be concerned with, one or more of which will always be available: the eyes, throat, groin and shins. These are vulnerable areas on the body, regardless of size, strength, or physical conditioning. Obviously, the best defense is common sense and preventative steps, such as avoiding high-risk areas whenever possible. Try to steer clear of alleyways, dark streets, and parking lots at night or when alone. Proper psychology can also be very important if avoidance fails, but when it comes down to it, what to say to an assailant can be just as difficult to remember as what to do to him. So, keep it Should an attack become physical, a woman's strategy should be simple as well.

Too often, women are taught sequences of several follow-up blows. Although it might look good in the gym, this is not recommended. Once the first effective blow is delivered and the attacker is momentarily distracted or stunned, scream and run like hell! When an attacker gets his eyes or throat jabbed, his groin hit, or his shin smashed, it is unlikely he will have quite the same intent to chase her down the street for another try! The desired outcome is to survive, not overcome an attacker. Now let’s go back to the original (and legitimate) worry plaguing most women: forgetting the techniques. All a woman has to remember is striking, grabbing, or biting one of the four targets. Those targets fit into a convenient acronym:

Of course, locating and striking the targets effectively require training, drilling, and a lot of thought and awareness. No approach is guaranteed. However, I do guarantee this: One is less likely to forget everything one has learned if what one learns is less complicated. This concept can benefit not only women, but also any martial artist or non-martial artist who wants to feel more confident about his or her own personal safety.

In this second instructional work, Chief George E. Lepine, Chief Instructor of Okichitaw Indigenous Combat Arts, introduces us to one of the most prized weapons among warriors, the "Chikuna-Kinas," or Fighting Tomahawk, an instrument that history has placed in our minds as aggressive and ruthless. In the possession of a skilled Indian warrior, the Tomahawk was considered a very convincing weapon in any close combat. For 4 decades, Patrick Levet has been involved in the propagation of Vietnamese martial culture. It is now time to move on to a more precise and detailed description of this form of combat, but also of its various forms of evolution which are the Vật de Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo and the Vật de Vovinam Integral. With this new DVD, Vietnamese Vat is presented in a completely new way. Instead of simply filming the techniques of the official program, fixed and without real application, Vat is shown in its traditional form detailing its main aspects (dress, refereeing, ritual, techniques, counter-attacks, tactics), its technical evolutions, as well as its differences, demonstrating why such evolutions occurred. This discipline is completely unknown to the general Western public despite being thousands of years old. The art of Vật is composed of hundreds of techniques and variations. However, the Vật techniques in Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo do not represent the proportion they deserve, only 28 techniques, despite the fact that the Founding Master was a Vật fighter. At Vovinam Integral we have tried to remedy this by adding many traditional Vật techniques, with over a hundred attack techniques (takedowns and projections) making up the overall program. To that we must add all the counter attacks for each takedown and projection technique as well as the defenses once on the ground. Great Masters

Recalling Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa Two years ago, great Hirokazu Kanazawa left us. What can we say about him that has not been written in all these years...? His life, his legacy, his charisma and his personality are things that cannot leave indifferent anyone who has met him and treated him privately. (2) In these two years from his departure, we've had the time to reflect on the things he taught us, as well as on the transmission of the values that made up the DNA of his understanding of Karate and what's more, that of his distinctive sign in SKIF (Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation). I'm convinced that, from my view, therein lies the difference. Many Western and even Japanese karatecas put his organization above his person; as we all know, the SKIF was founded thanks to the support of masters who at a certain time joined Kanazawa’s project of giving Karate a new course. Perhaps for some, Soke is the result of the organization, without which there couldn't be a head like him, but for me, it's just the other way around. It was H. Kanazawa who gave meaning to the organization and everything it stands for. For those who have not had the good fortune of sharing time with him, I would like to comment on some personal episodes, in which his personality left a deep impression on me marking my current way of being. I often have come across real "fighting machines" inside the Dojo, with subtle technique and enviable skills that placed them on a pedestal almost unattainable for ordinary people like me. The problem is that these characteristics did not always accompany them outside the martial environment, that is, their behavior and their way of being did not correspond to what they showed inside the tatami. For those who have not been lucky enough to share life with him, I would like to comment on some personal episodes, in which his way of being left a deep impression on me and marked my current way of being. Hirokazu Kanazawa was a master on and off the mat, which, unfortunately, is not very common. Many times I have come across true "machines" inside the Dojo, with a subtle technique and enviable abilities which put them on a pedestal almost unattainable for normal people like me. The problem

But in the case of Kanazawa, it was not so (I must add that I also know other Masters similar to him), but quite the opposite, as evidenced by the affection that most of the white belts had for him because they felt an important part of the seminars, thanks to his dedication to them. He always offered them the necessary time and effort, so they learned to carry out the techniques the correct way, in front of a whole pavilion full of black belts, waiting and repeating the basic technique until those beginners were able to perform it. But this way of being, was exactly the same when he was not wearing the Karategi. Hence the deep imprint he left us. I fondly remember after taking him to a 5-star hotel in Madrid the first year he was with us, telling me with that same affection: "Jesus, I don’t need to go to a hotel like this, it’d be fine at your house… That marked a before and after in my relationship with him. I don't have a house with the comforts of a hotel, or anything like that, but he always wanted to pass and help at home in what he could, even though he tried not to let him do anything, but his humanity and humility permeated the entire environment in his wake. Another of the moments that showed his way of being, so human and close, was the time when, following his circuit of seminars around the world, he moved to another country from Spain and I followed him to continue training with him. He had spent the previous week with us, giving seminars and filming an interview for Budo International magazine that many of you have already seen, with images shot in their recording studios in which Soke performs a form of Tai Chi, and whose pictures have been randomly published on numerous occasions. During this stay in Spain, the Director of the magazine, Alfredo Tucci, presented him with a painting by him that Soke greatly appreciated and liked very much. When he left, unfortunately, he forgot the painting in Madrid, but knowing that the next week I would see him again, he asked me to bring it to him. Said and done; As we were staying at the same hotel, I asked at reception for his room and after calling him with due respect to

avoid bothering him, he not only invited me to his room, but we spent an evening talking about life and about martial subjects, which I will never forget. A lovely trait that I would also like to share with you is the beautiful relationship he always had with my children. Being a person who traveled eight months a year, away from home, always treated with respect and admiration, he showed exceptional affection towards them, recalling that, because of his concern for the future, children and young people have always been very important for him, always keeping in mind how Karate and its principles could help improve society. In fact, one of his frustrations that I remember was when he told me that in Japan, he once a mishap with car and some young girls, who forced him to stop, get off and scold them, to which they replied insulting him and leaving without paying any attention to him. He was dismayed not understanding such lack of respect for the elderly and the powerlessness of not being able to make them understand a reality that

But continuing with his personality, and trying to show some traits of Soke's human greatness as a person, I remember how he laughed and joked when one of my children (very small at the time) got out of bed and brushed his teeth before having breakfast, and Soke couldn't stop laughing. Or like the day he came to pick up my kids from school, waiting on the street like any other parent. There are many anecdotes and experiences that we have shared for so many years, and it makes me proud to be able to share some of them with you, to try to give a brushstroke of the person beyond the connotations of a teacher that you all know. Finally, I think one of the most important points of SKIF is that it is based not only on the technical characteristics, Katas, Yakusoku Kumite, etc., which are the basis of their technical work, but on that "Saho", the label inside and outside the tatami, those human principles apart from the Kun Dojo, which show how Karate is not only for the best bodies, with very high capacities both physically and psychologically, but for the whole world, a human Karate, open to all bodies, sizes, conditions, etc., in which, above all, we must seek improvement and personal improvement, and, as part of society, try to help others in the achievement of their goals. I believe that this legacy has been left in the best hands, to be his successors in this difficult task that the "master of harmony" has left to both Shuseki Murakami and Kancho Kanazawa, and that until now, they jointly lead masterfully for the union, and so that the legacy of the great Hirokazu Kanazawa is not lost. When most people hear the word Kyusho, or the words Pressure Points, it is one of two things that come to mind ... Self Defense or a healing modality such as Acupuncture or Massage Therapy. In each instance, they are correct. There are some who focus mostly on the self defense aspect and other whose focus is more into the healing. I personally know of several people who trained with me and became so excited about manipulating the Pressure Points for self defense that they enrolled in Acupuncture classes, Massage Classes and Chiropractic Classes. Each area of study requires extensive focus on the mechanics of the body and how the practitioner can "assist" the body into healing itself. This is not an end all be all and each patient must be accountable for their health and lifestyle habits. This video will focus on how we can use the same 5 points for both healing and self defense. This is where knowledge of anatomy, basic principles of motion, and developing a sensitive touch come into play. Pressure Points have multiple uses for both health and self defense and can be a great complement to one another. The history of the S.H.O.O.T. is the story of its founder, Alejandro Iglesias Costas, who began practicing Martial Arts at a very early age, in 1969, beginning with S a m b o a n d O l y m p i c Wr e s t l i n g , which he later complemented with learning a tough style of Kung Fu. Over the years, he has been researching and learning different systems of Martial Arts and Contact Sports, incorporating some of his concepts and techniques to his own point of view on fighting; which, together with his personal experiences, led him to develop his own Combat System, different from those that already existed, which he called with the acronym S.H.O.O.T. (Scientific Hi-Level Over coming Opponent Technique / High-Level Scientific Technique to Overcome the Opponent), based on Japanese Shootfighting, the first hybrid fighting system (Blows + Levers) popularized internationally.

Fighting Technique From the beginning, the techniques and tactics of S.H.O.O.T. have been continuously put to the test in Contact Sports competitions, through the S.H.O.O.T. R&D, a group of professionals who train and compete with the goal of examining the techniques taught in the S.H.O.O.T. and thus test its effectiveness in a real situation. From the end of the 1980s to the end of the 1990s, the competitors trained by Professor Iglesias stood out on the international scene of Contact Sports (Boxing, Full Contact, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, Sanda, etc.), Grappling (ADCC) and, of course, in Mixed Martial Arts, forming the first MMA Competition Team in Spain and one of the first and most important in Europe. With the new millennium, the S.H.O.O.T. Team focuses solely on participating in MMA competitions, as they are the most realistic possible test when it comes to examine the S.H.O.O.T. techniques that are taught in the Academies of the system. The S.H.O.O.T. has been tested around the world, with resounding success, in international level events, winning International MMA Tournaments such as MARS (Japan / Asia), M-1 (Russia), Euphoria MFC (North America), Ultimate Combat, European Vale Tudo, Shooto Belgium (Europe), KSW (Eastern Europe), etc. Thanks to these practical tests, the techniques that prove to be most effective are reinforced and become part of the S.H.O.O.T. Technical Program. and those that do not give good results are modified or replaced by more effective ones. The conclusions obtained through constant practice and, of course, the increasingly hard and complicated tests to which it's continually subjected, bring about new versions of the S.H.O.O.T., that make the System always alive and in constant evolution, so that the First Technical and Tactical Program that was elaborated in the early 90s, cataloged as S.H.O.O.T. - 1 (S-1), has varied many of its techniques with respect to S.H.O.O.T. - 4 (S-4), the last technical plan of Professor Iglesias, created at the end of 2008.

MMA Techniques available to everyone Simultaneously with improving the fighting technique, an organized and progressive Teaching System was developed, with a starting and an ending point to teach the foundations of the S.H.O.O.T. in an easy and effective way.

The result of this work gave rise to the SHOOT Course, which consists of a combination of Private Classes (which ensure excellence in learning) and Group Classes, whose objective is training and the practical fixation in the subconscious of the techniques. In 1999, after going through some experimental Academy models, it was built the first S.H.O.O.T. Academy, with specific facilities for teaching this System, which included one of SHOOT's most characteristic innovations: The Private Classroom, a closed room that has an integrated computer, where the SHOOT Course is housed, with computer tools which help teach the Shooters and facilitates the management of the Academy. The union of all these elements is what gives full meaning to the S.H.O.O.T., and what allows bringing the most avant-garde and effective fighting techniques that exist to all people, so that anyone, without becoming a professional fighter, can learn and use these valuable resources and get transformed into a true SHOOTER, with all the values that it entails. This is the reason why the S.H.O.O.T. is so popular with people who know about it, and which helps popularize the most effective MMA techniques among enthusiastic practitioners who, otherwise, would reject this activity and who, in this way, they are now their greatest defenders. The culmination and definitive proof of the success and public acceptance of the System came in 2003 with the creation in the city of Valencia (Spain) of the S.H.O.O.T. Central Academy, the largest Center in the World, with 2000 square meters of surface and facilities, exclusively dedicated to the teaching of fighting techniques, which has all the required equipment for teaching and practice of the S.H.O.O.T., including a ring and an octagon as well as the world innovation of the Simulation Zone, a large hall consisting of the actual recreation of the street of a city, where the two main simulation devices are arranged: Scenarios and Environmental Conditions. In 2006, the work on the Fighting Science and its application to Self-Defense carried out by Professor Iglesias and his collaborators was recognized by Bircham International University, Private University that teaches courses of higher studies and that delegated to the S.H.O.O.T. Expansion through Franchises Being the pioneers in Spain in this realistic way of seeing and practicing Mixed Fighting, has converted from the beginning the S.H.O.O.T. Academy on the occasion of pilgrimage for practitioners from distant places.

This caused that there was an invisible expansive force that continually "pulled" the S.H.O.O.T., which had an incredible tendency to spread to other places and grow. But the experience acquired by the SHOOT Organization, which dates back to the beginning of the first Associations and Federations of different Martial Arts and Contact Sports that were created in our country in the mid-1980s, made it contain this impulse until sufficient tests had been carried out in order to find the best way to reproduce the success of the SHOOT in other cities. Finally, after many studies, at the end of 2007 an Organization model was achieved where Instructors could turn their vocation into a profitable profession, recognized and valued socially, through the Constitutional Franchise System. Materializing this project, S.H.O.O.T. was legally constituted in Spain as the First Franchise in the World dedicated to the teaching of Fighting systems, consolidating itself as one of the franchises that grew the most and had the best results in 2008, ranking number 14 of the 1,144 that operated that year in our country, outperforming well-known successful brands. This spectacular growth confirmed that if the teaching of the Fight is carried out with passion, honesty and perseverance, a respectable, serious and solvent company can be created, which in turn can offer a promising future job and improve the lives of many people.

The future of S.H.O.O.T. There is no doubt: With the incessant increase in citizen insecurity, the need for self-protection becomes more and more evident and S.H.O.O.T. is installing itself more and more firmly in society.

Regarding the fighting technique, the research will continue, the I+D Team will keep attending the main international events and the teaching work will be perfected, incorporating all the necessary means to improve the training of the Shooters and continue spreading the SHOOT style of life, getting more and more people to transform and improve through the self-confidence provided by this System. S.H.O.O.T. Technical Program Techniques: The S.H.O.O.T. system is made up of three fundamental parts: Hard Part - Hitting techniques (punches, elbow strikes, kicks, knee strikes, etc.) Soft Part - Lever techniques (throws, dislocations, chokes, etc.) Inner Part - Knowledge (Tactics, strategy, general studies on the fight…) Teaching: Private Lessons: The Private Lessons are didactic units designed for the Shooter to learn S.H.O.O.T. progressively and adapted to each person. These Classes are carried out individually by an Instructor-Student and in a Classroom created to optimize the teaching of the System as much as possible. All the necessary elements for its realization are integrated in the Classroom: Computer with the Technical Program and videos to help understand the techniques; the required protections for practice; training devices for hitting techniques and various accessories for some classes.

Group Classes and Free Training Private Classes are complemented by Group Classes, where all the SHOOTERS of an Academy participate together in a collective Class taught by an Instructor. Everything that is LEARNED in the Private Classes is TRAINED in the group classes.

It is not necessary to accumulate a certain number of private classes before beginning the improvement in the Group Classes. Any Shooter has the necessary capacity to attend these Classes since he takes his first Private Class. During training, a cooperative atmosphere prevails. Each Shooter must help his partner so that he improves technically. The Shooter will see in a few days the benefits that this practice entails, at a technical, physical and psychological level.

After the S.H.O.O.T. Course The S.H.O.O.T. Course focuses on providing the SHOOTER with a solid technical base at all fighting distances, which amply provides him with the necessary resources to be able to face an unarmed opponent. When the SHOOTER completes this stage, he can keep practicing, broaden his knowledge and continue perfecting his technical level for years, through different paths: Special Classes for Certified SHOOTERS, Seminars and various Courses, among which the Instructor Course and the I+D Competitor Course. Logically, SHOOT, like any other Fighting System, is a Science that can be cultivated throughout life, without ceasing to continuously learn and delve into its technical and tactical principles, so its scope is not only reduced to complete the basic course.
