Competiton Rules
All teams must consist of both Y7 & Y8 students. Minimum squads of 10. Teams are 10 a side. The competition will have three groups of three teams. The top of the group will play for places 1-3 (Group A), the second in the group will play for places 4-6 (Group B) and the third in the group will play for places 7-9 (Group C).
If you bowl first none of the 6 bowlers used are allowed to bat in the top 4. If you bat first, then none of your top 4 batters can bowl. 6 overs for each team.
Players to bowl a maximum of 1 over, the wicket keeper is NOT permitted to bowl. Run ups for bowlers will be limited to 6 paces.
Wides and no balls will count as two runs but there will be no extra ball apart from in the last over.
Batsmen must retire at 15 but can return if all other team mates are out.
NB: Joker over - the batting side will select 1 of the 6 overs before the start of the game as their joker over. Runs from this over will be doubled. The batting captain must give this information to the scorers before his batsmen take to the field. This information will be kept secret from the fielding side. All games will be played within the “spirit of cricket”. A “run fines” system will be in place for slow play.

Head Injuries & Concussion
Concussion is a complex process caused by trauma that transmits force to the brain either directly or indirectly and results in temporary impairment of brain function. Its development and resolution are rapid and spontaneous. Ultimately if you are unsure at any stage if a player has a head injury or is concussed you should seek medical attention. Listed below are some of the possible signs of concussion.
Headaches - It is only normal after a blow to the head to suffer a mild headache. There could be some bruising or mild swelling over the scalp which may be tender, but this doesn’t necessarily mean a player has concussion. If the headache seems to be getting worse this could be a cause for concern so seek medical attention.
Drowsiness - means they cannot be roused. It can be common for players to want to sleep for a short time (especially children), and it will be okay to let them do so. If there are further concerns you can wake them a few times during the night, especially if a knock on the head has happened just before bedtime. If, on the other
hand, they are difficult to wake or show signs of confusion, seek medical attention.
Other Symptoms - Confusion, unsteadiness, memory loss and convulsiveness.
If players show any signs of the above they should seek medical attention. These are merely guidelines as you know your student better than anyone else, but please remember signs and symptoms could take up to 48 hours to develop and should be monitored.
Berkhamsted School takes all head injuries seriously and all members of PE staff are First Aid trained and follow the RFU Head Case protocol if a student sustains a head injury. School match days are also covered by the 1st XV physiotherapist, as well as Pro Medicus Ambulance who are available if there are concerns. In serious cases students would be referred to a local hospital (listed at the beginning of the programme) as they would with any other serious injury.
