Library News Welcome to New Library Team Members: Dymond Bush and Rebecca Marcus The library staff is thrilled to welcome Dymond Bush to our Research & Instruction team. Originally from East Providence, Dymond has an incredibly unique background, having most recently worked as a Reference Librarian at the Coventry Public Library where she also served as the Director of the Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, an adult literacy nonprofit. She also brings experience working with corporate business libraries as she interned with the Fidelity Investments library in summer 2021. Before changing career paths from a background in the nonprofit sector to libraries, she worked as a program manager for Scholar Athletes in Boston and as a high school advisor for the College Crusade of Rhode Island, putting her master’s degree in kinesiology specializing in sports management and policy to good use. She is the Vice Chair of the Cornucopia of Rhode Island, a section of the Rhode Island Library Association that serves Rhode Island’s library community of color. Dymond is also a 2020-2022 Association of Research Libraries Kaleidoscope Diversity Scholar and 2020–2021 American Library Association Spectrum Scholar. When asked how these experiences will shape her approach as a Research librarian she said, “My career and volunteer experiences were all service oriented. They’ve helped prepare me to be able to help out where needed and to also support people in achieving their goals.” Bryant is lucky to welcome someone to campus who is so driven to help others succeed. Welcome New Digital Services & Research Librarian: Rebecca Marcus We are excited to welcome Rebecca Marcus (she/her/hers) to Bryant as the new Digital Services and Research Librarian! Rebecca comes to Bryant by way of South Carolina where she earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina. As the Digital Services and Research Librarian, Rebecca will contribute to making digital resources accessible to the Bryant University community and help faculty and students reach their research goals.
No Fines for Overdue Library Books
The library does not charge fines if you return a book late. While we hope you will return your library books on time, sometimes we all forget! But keep in mind that someone else may be waiting for a particular book to be returned, so they can enjoy it, too! If, however, you never return a book or lose it, then you will be charged a replacement fee. If the replacement fee isn’t paid, then students may not be able to register for classes or receive their transcript or diploma. We don’t like when this happens, so the best thing is to remember to return your books on time!

While in library school she worked at the University of South Carolina, South Caroliniana Library which is one of the premier research archives and special collections repositories in South Carolina and the Southeast region. Through this experience, she worked to conserve photographs, maps, architectural records. She has extensive experience in the arts, earning a master's degree in arts administration and a bachelor's degree in theater. Rebecca has worked in theaters across the country handling costumes. In her spare time, she is an avid hand embroiderer and sewer. Rebecca is looking forward to interacting and building relationships with the Bryant community. She is excited about the opportunity to try new things in this role. As she said, “I’m looking forward to helping faculty and students learn and using my archival skills to assist in preserving the history of Bryant University and its people.” We are so fortunate to have Rebecca’s expertise here at Bryant; stop by the library to meet her!

New Leisure Book Titles The winter months provide us with the opportunity to settle in and immerse ourselves in a good book. Whether you are interested in exploring a new hobby, solving a great mystery, or looking for the opportunity to imagine the sun warming your face under the slight shade of the palms – we have something for you.
Interlibrary Loan at Krupp Library Interlibrary Loan is one of the many services we provide to our Bryant patrons. If you are looking for a book, movie, or an article we do not have in our databases, we will endeavor to acquire them for you from other libraries around the United States at no cost to you. All you must do is go to our website at https://library.bryant.edu/ and first search the catalog for an item. If you are unable to locate what you are looking for, just look for the link that says, “Request via Interlibrary Loan” on that same page and fill out the form following the instructions. If we can find the item, we will process it and send you a notification when it is ready for pick up (in the case of a book, movie, and any other physical item). If, for one reason or another, we are unable to find an item you had requested, you will receive an email from us explaining why we could not find it. In the case of an article, you will get a PDF file for whatever you had requested and if for any reason we are unable to get the article, you will receive an email explaining why we could not get it as well. While it usually takes 4-5 business days (in-state) and about a week or two (out-of-state) to receive physical items, turnaround time for receiving items is dependent on the lending institution. Always feel free to stop by and ask any questions you may have about Interlibrary Loan, and we will be delighted to assist you in the best way possible to help locate what you are looking for.

Library Exhibits of Summer & Fall 2021 Have you had a chance to stop by the library to check out our exhibit spaces? Every month David Chianese and Meagan Joseph put time and creativity into our display cases. Whether it be a heritage month, exciting events on campus or some good old staff recommendations. You can always find something new and exciting to visit.

Homecoming 2021 was greeted with much enthusiasm and had many alumni visitors. Not only was this one of the first chances people had to reunite in person but it was a great opportunity for the library to show off our archives and share some of our gems in Krupp’s collection, including Bryant memorabilia and yearbooks.

During October Krupp Library collaborated with Bryant’s Division of International Affairs, the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the renowned Huntington Library for the campus wide Day of Understanding. Not only did we have the opportunity to exhibit reproductions but also to work directly with Li Wei Yang, Curator of Pacific Rim Collections. His exhibition on Chinese American history entitled “Y.C. Hong : Advocate for Chinese-American Inclusion" was displayed in the library for students, faculty and staff to view along with attending a talk on the materials showcased. We hope to collaborate with Li Wei Yang and the Huntington on future events! We are always looking for opportunities to connect with other groups on campus. In November we had one of many partnerships with Dr. Martha Kuhlman, Professor of English and Culture Studies. This exhibit was a unique chance for the library, faculty, and alumni to unite. We hosted artist Sajeela Sidiq, Bryant alumni, via zoom to discuss an installation of her artwork hosted by the library. This was an excellent opportunity for faculty, staff and students to engage with the former Bryant student about her creative process.
Donated Art and QR Codes Throughout the library, we have added QR codes incorporated with descriptive information about the displayed art. A QR code is an array of monochrome squares that store data which is readable by a camera or smartphone. Often QR codes contain data that translates to a URL. The incorporated QR codes provide insight into the artwork, often gathered directly from the donors of the art or through research about the work or artist.

Student Honors Theses Make a Big Impact With 931,187 downloads since our institutional repository’s inception in 2006, the Student Honors Thesis collection creates a lasting legacy of Bryant student scholarship. One paper in particular, The Age of Globalization: Impact of Information Technology on Global Business Strategies, leads the charge. Written by Bryant alumnus, Benjamin Lawlor in 2007, this paper currently has 192,850 downloads.
