The Pollack Furniture Company was founded in Baltimore in 1846 by Abram Pollack, a Prussian immigrant who had learned the trades of upholstering and mattress making. His son Uriah, born in Prussia in 1839, grew up in the trade and assumed charge of the business, expanding the firm to include extensive cabinetmaking and finishing workshops serving clients including the United States Naval Academy and the Baltimore Customs House. The firm occupied 315 N. Howard Street for 62 years until 1909, and Uriah’s name on the label establishes a date of sale no later than his death in 1897. An inscription on the label records delivery to Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania.
