The Margery Morse Award is presented annually to a select few Grade 5 boys who embody our Browning values of honesty, curiosity, dignity, and purpose as they move on to Middle School. The award is chosen with input from across the entire Lower School faculty. Recipients are boys who help others without being asked, who are able to handle disappointment, and who treat everyone with respect. Other characteristics that are considered include:

Lyman B. Tobin, a Browning teacher for 34 years, became the head of The Browning School in 1948. Under his leadership, public speaking was established as an important part of student life. This tradition is continued today largely through this annual program in our third, fourth, and fifth grade classes. Each student selects and memorizes a poem, speech, or other text to present. Judges choose the winners by evaluating finalists in five categories:
