Broward County Library April 2026 Magazine

Page 1

Greetings! Director’ s MESSAGE

Happy National Library Week!

National Library Week is April 19-25, with a theme for 2026 of “Find Your Joy”, which I think is perfect. We are all about helping you find your joy and pursue your passion. For example, whether your goals are for personal development or a dream career, follow your bliss on Universal Class –free, of course. Just type in your interest in the “I want to learn” bar and you’re started on one of over 600 courses. One of my money-saving tips is that you can earn jobrequired CEUs and certificates for free that

cost a lot to obtain elsewhere. We also offer free online tutoring 24/7 with Brainfuse. No matter where you are on your learning journey, Brainfuse features expert tutors to assist learners of all ages with a wide range of subjects. How can you not love your library?

Your library loves you, for sure, and April 22 is Broward County Library’s Customer Appreciation Day. We cannot wait to greet you, treat you and meet you! Each branch will be doing something special -- it could be chocolatey sweets, baked goods, a crafty project, or a movie

screening with buttery popcorn. Drop by your neighborhood library, explore a branch that’s new to you, and have a chat with some library staff. We always want to connect with you, just as I do at my Director’s Book Club.

This month, the Book Club won’t be meeting, so use the break to get a head start on May’s selection, Crying in H Mart  by Michelle Zauner. This tasty read is a Korean American rockstar and foodie’s memoir about family, food, grief, love, and evolving.

So many people think of their library as a calm, peaceful space – which it can be. Yet quietly…our 37 branches welcomed over five million visitors through their doors in 2025. That is an extraordinary number. We registered over 100,000 new customers for a library card. Attendance at our programs neared half a million. Our branches were open for approximately 90,000 hours throughout the year. And our wonderful, valued volunteers gave us over 47,000 hours of their dedicated time. That is really something to celebrate.

Wishing you an astonishing April full of exploration and Library Joy!

Sincerely,

DIRECTOR’S BOOK CLUB

While Allison takes a rest from her lively Director’s Book Club for April, check out the remaining books for 2026 and join the Library Director in May!
