Rising 6th Summer Reading

Page 1

Greetings Rising 6th Graders! Summer Reading Information & Expectations There are two assignments for your class:

1. Please read and annotate Master Minds1 by Gordon Korman. Eli Frieden has never left Serenity, New Mexico...why would he ever want to? Then one day, he bikes to the edge of the city limits and something so crazy and unexpected happens, it changes everything2. Annotations are short notes (1-5 words) you write in the margins of your book to keep track of your thoughts as you read. Annotations help us slow down and process the story as we read and they help us easily find details and our reactions when we look back on the book in discussion.

Here are some tips on what to annotate: ● Parts to which you have a strong reaction! ● Questions & unfamiliar words ● At the end of each chapter 2-3 bullets to summarize what happened Your annotations will serve you well when we start your reading response project at the start of the year in September.

2. You are each required to read at least two additional books of your choice. Every time you finish a book, please make an entry in this Summer Reading Log. If you read more than two, of course, log them all! You can reread old favorites or explore new titles :) Have a great summer! Best, Ms. Lloyd PS. Be on the lookout for Ms. Lloyd’s email on Google Classroom

Master Minds is the first book of the Master Minds series. If you enjoy it and are looking for choice book suggestions, check out Criminal Destiny and Payback afterwards! 1
