Class of 2028 Summer Reading Assignment
This summer reading assignment has two parts.
Part 1: Read The Miscalculations of Lighting Girl by Stacy McAnulty.
Directions for Journal Entries: Designate one notebook for the purpose of responding to the journaling prompts. Alternatively, you may respond to the prompts on Google Classroom. Please respond to the following questions in complete sentences and well-developed paragraphs. Each question should be answered as a separate journal entry, meaning you should have a journal with five completed entries. You should use a Brain Frame or graphic organizer to plan out each of your paragraphs.
Remember a paragraph must include;
A topic sentence
Main ideas to support your argument
Elaborations such as examples, quotes, or connections.
A concluding sentence
1) Which character in the book do you identify with the most and why?
2) How does the protagonist, Lucy Callahan, evolve throughout the novel? How does she change? Provide examples from the story to support your answer
3) Explore the theme of friendship in the novel. How does Lucy's relationship with Levi and Windy change her perspective on friendship? Use specific instances from the book to illustrate your points.
4) Why does the title of the book, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl, fit the plot of the story? Is there another title that you think would be a better fit? Why or why not?
5) Compare and contrast Lucy's experiences in school with your own or those of someone you know What similarities and differences do you notice in the challenges she faces and the relationships she forms? Use examples from both Lucy's story and your own experiences to support your comparison.

You are each required to read three additional books from our Summer Reading List Click here. Please record the title and author of the books you choose to read in your journal or on Google Classroom. If you wish to read more than three books from the list or any other books of your choice, please feel free!
