For nearly 50 years, Meridian Technology Center has provided hands-on career and technical training for district residents. Until this year, much of that training took place on our campus in Stillwater. With the addition of our South Campus in Guthrie, we’re now able to offer programming focused on workforce and economic development in two locations. As you look through our course offerings in this catalog, we hope you will explore training at both locations regardless of where you live in the district. You’ll find that workforce and professional development training remains a focal point of both campuses, as is our support of entrepreneurs. We have business incubators at each campus location to give entrepreneurs a place to grow their businesses. We also offer no-cost high school equivalency prep courses in Stillwater and Guthrie. While many of our services overlap at both campuses, each location has unique attributes. For instance, our full-time career training programs for high school students and adults remain at our main campus in Stillwater. The South Campus is home to the newly established First Capital Film Crew Institute which equips individuals with the skills needed to help support Oklahoma’s growing film industry. The South Campus is also home to a large flexible meeting space that can host training seminars and conferences. We’re excited to provide more opportunities and resources to residents of our district. As you look through this catalog, you’ll notice course offerings are categorized by their campus location. We also offer a Learn Locally series with courses offered in partnership with Perry businesses. We hope this layout will help you quickly find the classes you want at a location that is convenient for you. Our team takes great pride in providing an extraordinary experience for learning and being a passionate partner for success. While we now have two campus locations, we still have one mission – to educate, enrich lives and secure economic futures. We hope that regardless of where you live in the district, you consider both campuses your local technology center.

TOP WORKPLACE For the 8th consecutive year, The Oklahoman recognized Meridian as a Top Workplace in Oklahoma, which is based on employee feedback. In 2021 Meridian was recognized as the Top Mid-Size Workplace in Oklahoma for the second consecutive year. The school also earned the My Manager Award, recognizing the support that employees report receiving from their supervisor.

REAL WORK FOR THE REAL WORLD: GRAIN SILOS Students in Meridian’s Computer Aided Drafting program were challenged with creating design plans for two grain silos that are being turned into short-term rental properties.

NEW SOUTH CAMPUS IN GUTHRIE Meridian’s second campus, located in Guthrie, officially opened this spring. The South Campus will offer personal and professional development short courses in health care, computers and technology, cooking, adult basic education including free GED and HiSet test preparation, and short courses to prepare residents to work on movie and TV productions as crew members.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES THIS FALL Business and Education Council Members provided input to develop Meridian’s new Criminal Justice program and the Lineworker career major that is part of the Energy and Power program. Both will start this fall. The Stillwater Police Department donated a police cruiser to the Criminal Justice program.

BOOTS ON THE GROUND Nearly 90 students in Meridian’s construction trades programs received a pair of steel-toed work boots, gloves and a hat to help them be work ready. The gear is provided through the Boots on the Ground program through the North Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association.

Creating Trusts for Your Estate Plan

Anyone who wishes to help protect or control their assets during life and after death can benefit from a trust. But what kind of trust does one need? What are the tax implications of a trust? Can someone change their trust after it is created? Can someone else change my trust change after I die? People are full of questions surrounding this area of estate planning, and much of the beliefs and information readily available is simply not true. This course will teach you the basics of trusts, such as what a trust is, how it works, the benefits of trusts, and the major types of trusts. 10/10

Heartbreaking workplace violence situations are now occurring on a weekly basis, and recent examples have reminded us that they’re no longer isolated to schools. Have you talked as a team about how you can prepare for and anticipate potential violence and how you’d react in a threatening situation? Explore Your Interests at Tech

With 20+ programs to choose from, training at Meridian combines theoretical framework and hands-on skills application. Instructors are experts in their field and industry representatives help shape course content.

Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

Depending on their high school, students can earn 3 or 4 credits per year. Some of these credits count as electives, some count as academic credits. The Meridian STEM Academy, including preengineering and biomedical sciences, is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. For all other programs, students may attend their junior or senior year. When space is available, sophomores can enroll for afternoon programs. Students attend either a morning or afternoon session. High school students living in the Meridian Technology Center district attend at no cost and should visit with their counselor about applying.

Adults

Adult students can chose from either the morning or afternoon session or attend all day, depending on program availability and their schedule. Tuition for adults and those living outside of the district depends on the specific program. Adults may also be eligible for financial aid through grants and scholarships and should visit with the Financial Aid Officer. Adult students may apply on our website.

College Credit

Earn college credit while you’re at Meridian. Through a cooperative effort between the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education, college credit toward an associate of applied science degree (A.A.S.) may be available upon completion of a career major. An A.A.S. is a technical workforce degree and is a great path for someone who plans on entering the workforce immediately after earning the degree. College credit is specific to the technical workforce degree and usually does not transfer to a bachelor’s degree.

We provide business consulting and coaching to early-stage companies and aspiring entrepreneurs. We’ll help you explore the feasibility of an idea, identify a new market for your product or service, evaluate your marketing, understand how to hire the right employees and more. Business Incubation When You’re Starting a Business

Business incubation is a focused process that includes management guidance, technical assistance and consulting for young, growing companies. Entrepreneurs can locate their business in the incubator as a residential or associate tenant. Residential tenants have access to services and rent dedicated office or lab space for up to three years. Associate tenants have access to our services but do not rent dedicated space. Meridian has incubation facilities located in Stillwater and at our South Campus in Guthrie. Passing the high school equivalency test or the general education development test is equivalent to earning a high school diploma and can open the door for students applying for a job or seeking further education. Students take a pre-test to determine their academic levels in reading, math and language. Based on their results, they study to advance to the next level and build toward taking the GED or HiSET. Classes are self-paced and offered at no cost. There is a fee to take the exams.
