Dr. Tharaka Bio Dr Tharaka is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist turned mental health and high performance expert, three-time TEDx speaker, and TV doctor who makes brain science practical and memorable. Drawing on over 20 years of clinical experience, he helps people understand how their brain works under pressure — and what to do about it. His keynote will equip delegates with evidence-based tools they can use immediately, for themselves and for the young people in their care. For more information, please visit Dr Tharaka’s website - https://www.drtharaka.com/
Talk Blurb Mental health is everywhere — in policies, in training days, in every conversation about young people. But when was the last time someone actually made it simple and actionable? In this interactive keynote, Dr Tharaka — Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist turned mental health and performance expert, three-time TEDx speaker, and TV doctor — strips mental health back to what it really is: something physical, practical, and far more manageable than we've been led to believe. Using brain science keys and practical hacks, he'll give you a clear framework that works for you AND for the young people you care for — no jargon, no guilt, no separating "your wellbeing" from "their wellbeing." It's the same brain. The same science. The same tools. You'll leave understanding mental health in a way that finally makes sense — and knowing exactly what to do with that understanding on Monday morning.
Sarah, Kellie and Kirsten Bio Sarah Sewell, Kellie Thursfield and Kirsten Antoncich are UKCP Accredited Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists attending from Birmingham City University representing The Birmingham Child Mental Health Network. This is a membership collaboration that provides member organisations with access to child psychotherapy professionals, supervision support, child mental health trainings and network support. The network uses its research arm to evaluate interventions supporting schools and organisations in demonstrating their pastoral efficacy and works to track key mental and emotional health challenges affecting children and young people.
Talk Blurb In this talk three UKCP Accredited Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists with extensive experience of working within school settings will provide a psychotherapeutic perspective on children’s mental health. Sarah, Kellie and Kirsten will take you on a journey using a case vignette to understand young people’s lived experience from their own perspective, their teacher’s perspective, their parents’ perspective and that of a psychotherapist. They will uncover and discuss key psychotherapeutic concepts and ideas including Adverse Childhood Experiences, the importance of relationships, co-regulation, understanding emotions and behaviours and the role empathy can play in supporting and developing childhood resilience. Come together to reflect, connect and deepen our collective understanding of how we can work together to better support children’s mental health in schools.
