From early-stage research discoveries to industry partnerships and high-potential startups, this event reflects Brock’s growing role as a hub for research translation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship.

We are thrilled to feature more than 30 research-based technologies, startups, and research-industry collaborations at today’s event. We are also proud to recognize the achievements of our innovators through ten awards that will be presented today, including the Brock Entrepreneur of the Year and Brock Innovator of the Year awards, which honour outstanding leadership and impact in innovation and commercialization.

Please take the time to meet the innovators in the room, ask questions, make connections, and be inspired by the breadth of work underway at Brock. Innovation thrives through collaboration, curiosity, and community, and today we celebrate all three.

Sincerely,

Brock LINC Overview

Welcome to the Brock LINC, Brock University’s innovation centre & incubator with a focus on connecting Brock research, ideas and technology to the market. We support this in three ways: commercializing research at Brock, developing research and industry partnerships, and supporting a robust culture of entrepreneurship. Learn more at brocku.ca/brocklinc

Commercialization

We help researchers to commercialize and license their work while protecting their interests and priorities. The team supports Intellectual Property (IP) education, IP evaluation, IP protection, market assessments, licensing technology, and more. Reach out to discuss how we can support your intellectual property and commercialization journey.

Industry partnerships

The Brock LINC helps companies connect and collaborate with our researchers to solve industry problems. The team identifies and assists with funding opportunities to support research-industry partnerships and facilitates the relationship between the researcher and industry partner. Ask us how Brock researchers can support your business R&D needs.

Entrepreneurship

We support the growth of entrepreneurship at Brock through the development of research spin-offs, student entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurial skills. Our entrepreneurship programs are designed to support early-stage entrepreneurship from ideation, discovery, and launch. Talk to us about which programs might be the right fit for your entrepreneurial journey.

Cassie Conte Entrepreneurship Program Manager

Brock Technologies

High-Speed Photodetector Material

Dr. Jianbo Gao

Conventional photodetectors often suffer from limited signal efficiency and slow response times. Brock University researchers have developed new photodetector materials using Silver Selenium and Silver Sulfite quantum dots that doubles signal efficiency and responds in picoseconds. This breakthrough enhances technologies such as cameras, solar panels, and infrared sensors, offering superior performance for communication, medical imaging, and LiDAR.

Immunotherapy for Age-Related Chronic Diseases

Dr. Newman Sze

Aging leads to the accumulation of damaged (IsoDGR-modified) proteins, which trigger inflammation and contribute to cardiovascular, lung and neurodegenerative diseases. Brock researchers developed a novel antibody approach to remove these damaged proteins and offer a new therapeutic solution for a broad range of age-related diseases.

Mucosal Vaccine Adjuvants

Dr. Tony Yan

Vaccination has effectively controlled many infectious diseases, but there is a significant unmet need for mucosal vaccines. Researchers at Brock University are revolutionizing vaccines utilizing fluorinated cyclic dinucleotides (FCDs) as adjuvants for oral vaccines. This has widespread applications for gastrointestinal, respiratory, and sexually transmitted infections, but is also safer, more effective, and patient friendly.

Physiologically Relevant Cell Culture Media

Dr. Jeff Stuart

Standard culture media such as DMEM, RPMI 1640 and MEM sustain growth but fail to mimic the complex biochemical environment of human tissues, leading to altered cell behaviour and poor reproducibility. Brock researchers have developed the first commercial-ready suite of cell culture media that replicate in vivo metabolite conditions across tissues, sexes, and species.

Self-Healing Silicones

Dr. Paul Zelisko

Polymer materials commonly degrade over time, leading to costly repairs and replacements. Brock University researchers have developed selfhealing silicones that repair damage at ambient temperatures, enhancing durability and extending product lifespans. This technology offers a sustainable, cost-effective solution for industries such as automotive, electronics, and healthcare, reducing maintenance costs and improving performance in seals, electronics, and consumer goods.

VR Wine Glass

Dr. Debbie Inglis

Brock University researchers have created a vessel that enhances the sensory experience of drinks like wine, beer, and coffee while using virtual-reality and/or augmented-reality head-mounted displays. By optimizing surface area, it improves aroma release and taste, bridging sensory evaluation with wearable tech. This innovation is perfect for virtual reality, consumer testing, sensory training, and assistive technologies, enhancing accessibility and self-reliance.
