Just Ask!!! One on One with the Queen of New Orleans Fashion I would like to welcome you all to the first installment of what we here at VIVYD affectionately call “Just Ask!!!” This new segment will go one on one with fashion designers, models, photographers, and other fashion professionals, as we explore what makes them tick and why they do what they do. As this content expands, we hope to provide a little text to the people that help all to enjoy fashion. In our inaugural question and answer session, we go one on one with New Orleans fashion royalty, the Queen of NOLA Fashion Tracee Dundas. For those who may not know who Tracee is, she is the lifeforce behind the city of New Orlean’s Annual Fashion Week and is the embodiment of what New Orleans fashion is all about.

I
n my last article, "Be Unforgettable", I addressed how important it is to be yourself and let your light shine bright. After much thought, I feel I may have jumped the gun. Do I still want you to walk in a room as if you own it? YES! Do I still want you to embrace all of yourself no matter what? YES! Then why do I feel as if I jumped the gun? Well, I didn't address the issues that may hinder you from being the best version of yourself. I didn't talk about the negative self-talk and the opinions of others. I failed to bring up the ways to get over the things that hold you back from being unforgettable. I know that wasn't fair of me and now I am here to right that wrong.

A Taste of Fashion officially got on the move Thursday, November 4th, 2021, at the New Orleans Nation WWII Museum with WARdrobe – Fashion on the Rations with a stunning tribute to the 1940’s women’s fashion. As history records show the world was at war for the greater part of a decade. The war effort in the US was at an all-time high as men and women were called to serve their country and defend freedom and democracy across the world. Factories that were once used to make every day goods were being converted into assembly lines for combat machinery and clothing. Materials such cotton, silk, and nylon that were once used to make the latest fashion were now being utilized to construct parachutes and other uniform items. Founder of New Orleans Fashion Week, Tracee Dundas started the event with a brief recap of the contributions that women made both professionally and fashionably to aid in fighting the war. That segment was followed by WARdrobe which paid homage to that account by first showcasing the women’s uniforms of the armed forces of that era. Then the fashion that was born as result of fewer materials in the system chain and the war ending. The show also featured past hair and make-up demonstrations by one of the New Orleans area schools of cosmetology and the sounds of the musical singing trio the Victory Belles.

The Road to the Show Answering the call for New York Fashion Week
N Article by Bobby Lee
ew York Fashion Week, one of the largest if not the largest fashion event on the planet. This event showcases designers and models from every corner of the globe on one of the biggest stages for a week in the city of New York. It is regarded as one of the most covenant milestones on any fashion industry professional resume and sets tone for fashion trends that will come into fruition for the next few months and years to come.
honored and humbled once I receive the phone call inviting me back to showcase my brand.”
As you can imagine, being involved in this event is a dream of most professionals within the industry. Most runway models aspire to walk in the big shows in the Big Apple, while most fashion designers seek that stage to show off their latest and greatest lines. This year we were able to get a little insight into the preparation that designer Marcia Arnsparger Santiago undergoes when preparing to exhibit her designs during New York Fashion Week.
Once selected then it is time for the real work to take place. Designers must begin to make preparations and get their brands positioned to walk for the event. This takes a lot of forethought and determination as there is literally only a few months between when you are notified and showtime.
Firstly, who is Marcia? She is a wife, a mother, and a former surgical nurse who traded her career in the operating room to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. During her life, she has always had a love for creating and found a way to express her fashion language to the world though her brand Klosetslayer. Klosetslayer offers widespread apparel for everyone catering to all ages and sizes with their gender fluid collections. Her pieces range from couture, ready to wear, and loungewear. Variety is very important to her along with being able to accommodate for different styles to keep her customers wardrobes fashionably refreshed. She is constantly releasing new collections to make her brand accessible throughout the various seasons while creating new fashion trends. Marcia is a driven and dedicated entrepreneur; in fact this was her fourth time presenting in NYFW siting that her first time was in the shows of 2015 just one year after creating her brand. “Being invited to NYFW this year remin ded me of how much I love presenting my collections and how much I enjoy the response from the audience. New York is truly the hub of the world, and I am always

As most could agree invitations to walk do not come easy. Of all the designers in the world less than five percent actually get an opportunity to be a part of this event. In standard practice, most designers are required to audition with a few pieces and or provide outlines of the looks that they have created and want to present during the current year’s show. Then a panel of fashion lovers, bloggers, and other influencers decide whether or not your brand is ready to see this stage.
