Hello, I hope that this issue finds you and yours in great health and positively enduring the challenges of 2020. This year has presented everyone with some very unique issues and I truly hope that you all are navigating them with style and grace.

When deciding the themes last year, the one issue that I was very interested to see how it would pan out was this issue. Since the creation of the magazine we have received images of women in lingerie, women in shadows, and artful nudes. Not that I am against that type of photography (lord knows I am not) those images did not fit within the guidelines of submission mostly because one person’s idea of tasteful is not the same as another. When we built the magazine, I wanted to ensure that our foundations were clear and concise. I always hoped that we would eventually be able to expand into the more risquÊ or tabu areas of printing. After lots of deliberation of the pros and cons with the team we decided to release a seduction issue in hopes that the name along with guidelines would inspire some of the best images to be published in VIVYD to date. The Seduction issue in itself at its essence is what I like to refer to as a fan issue. Its conceptualization is based on requests, earlier submissions and many inquiries. It is an issue that not only highlights beauty, it highpoints empowerment, confidence, and strength, all attributes that are focal points of the VIVYD brand. While all types of images of expression were submitted, the images selected for this issue were highly controlled and stylish in every sense of those words. It is unfortunate that we could not print all of the submissions, I believe that this issue represents the intention of the theme and offers an avenue to continue and expand this volume in the years to come. So, without any more delay I present to you VIVYD Seduction.

s we are seeking to get along, seven months into the global pandemic of COVID-19 in America, there have been some challenges to go along with it. To name a few: the economy, social injustice, governance and the pandemic itself, more than 51 million Americans without jobs, and over 210 thousand people dead. A technique to subdue the chaotic mind is what used to be known as the 3Rs, Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic; these are safe places to settle unsettled minds. If you are home alone or with family and friends, the peace delivered by the 3Rs can dominate the current chaos of our society. Reading. “Say it Louder” Tiffany Cross; “you2” by Price Pritchett; and “Never Caught” by Erica Armstrong Dun-

bar, topped my list of reading the month of September. Though Cross has brilliantly woven the path of current politics & policies into “how exactly we got here” in her work, it was written hip enough to feel like a conversation with a strong-willed articulate friend and a history book. She made plain historical information that helps inform on the electoral college and major media outlet news coverage and story selection. Considering we are less than 30 days away from what was known as Election Day in the pre-COVID era and are now deep into Election Season, this information is useful and will to inspire your civic duties. Reading this book allowed me to casually consume valid information as if sipping champagne and nibbling on white truffle, or shrimp and grits depending on the time of day. The thing about reading books that should draw us all to it, is the opportunity to experience something without the risk of having to experience it.

Grab a book, take a journey in someone else’s boat while they provide propulsion and steerage, like riding in a Tesla, with no risk. Read something fun or something as sobering as “you2”, which will encourage and magnify your internal gaze and exponentially increase your life and those you share the 35 power packed pages with. Grab a book, or a few, and allow the reading to become the wind beneath your wings, that you may enjoy the peaceful breeze upon your face that is learning. Writing. Remember writing in cursive? I’ve brought that back into vogue at my place. There are a number
of things that will allow you to get out of the COVID brain-fog: ice-cold showers immediately upon waking up, brushing your teeth with the opposite hand, math without a calculator, humming while you read, meditation, yoga, and more. I chose writing, SURPRISE, and journaling. So every day I write at least 500 words in my journal and I write them in cursive. Admittedly it was a challenge to remember some of the letters, (capital Q almost slayed me), but it has been a pleasure to muscle through some of those childhood memories from my penmanship teacher in elementary, “who exactly is supposed to read that Raymond?”, and many other comments. After seven months of daily rehearsals I am the master of my domain and enjoy the exercise. Depending on your elementary school scar tissue, I invite you to join me in the writing adventure, or one of the other exercises that will add some excitement to your routine (at work or at home). ver noticed how the best images to visualize the art of seduction mostly start and end with black? From the creation of shadow by fixed and external light sources adding drama to any visualized conception or the lace that traces the outlines of your body, black is the realization of seduction for any mood in any setting. Black described and defined as a color is the absorption or the absence of color or light. In fact, in spoken language this is the reason why the color is often associated with terms such as cheerless, dejected, dark, and corrupt. However, when it comes to boudoir photography black is the one and only hero. When you associate the actual color to the world of fashion black is often used to hide from or conceal yourself, we use it to hide our weight, sometimes our feelings and our personalities. Black often serves as a barrier between what is known and what is unknown and for these reasons it creates a secretive feeling of wonder, power, and seduction. The Power. Black exudes of intimidation and unwelcomeness; the color itself radiates of power and absorbs all the energy around it. It illustrates the illusion of control, rigidness while giving the comfort of protection. Black is often seen a color of elegance and temptation often creating intrigue with a dab of mystery, while also implying submission.
