One of my independent projects involved working autonomously from the initial stages through to development. The project was an extension to a cemetery in Buxton, commissioned to increase burial capacity, expand existing pathways to allow vehicular access, and create an additional area for crematorium plots.

I began by reviewing the existing site layout drawings and then developed proposed extensions in line with the client’s requirements. I also conducted an independent site visit to gain a thorough understanding of the existing conditions, ensuring the proposals were both practical and sensitive to the current layout.

I collaborated with a colleague to produce technical drawings for the proposed crematorium area, specifically focusing on a fence and gate design that would match the existing features on site. These drawings were developed to clearly demonstrate to the client how the memorials and gates would be installed and integrated into the ground.

During the early design stages, I prepared two masterplan options: one that fully met the client’s brief, and an alternative that illustrated how the space could be prioritised and phased more efficiently.

Another project I worked on was a residential scheme delivering additional homes for individuals experiencing homelessness, in partnership with a charity organisation. My role was to develop a soft landscape plan tailored to the client’s needs.

The design focused on creating a low maintenance landscape, incorporating a mix of perennial and evergreen planting to provide year round character and visual interest. I also specified native hedgerows to enhance privacy while creating a welcoming sense of enclosure at the site entrance.

These additional projects demonstrate long term planting management strategies, illustrating how the landscape would establish and evolve from the initial year through to a 15 year period.

For this particular project, I was responsible for producing the planting illustrations, collaborating closely with the graphics team to develop detailed sectional visuals that effectively communicated the scheme’s growth and maturity over time.

Illustrative Masterplan

In December 2025, I produced additional sectional illustrations for a residential development, aimed at clearly communicating the design intent and overall character of the site to the client. These visuals focused on helping stakeholders better understand how the development would appear in context.

In February 2026, I worked on the project’s masterplan following feedback that the proposed layout had not been clearly communicated to the local community. There were concerns that the renovation would significantly alter the character of the site. I was tasked with creating a more illustrative masterplan to better convey the design approach.

The revised masterplan emphasised that the proposed changes particularly to the car park were minor and carefully considered, preserving the site’s authenticity while introducing a more structured and functional layout.
