Reimagining Search with AI

Brent Wittman recently completed the 2025 Leadership Development Circle, culminating in an Innovation Capstone Project that brought together teams of Berkley leaders from around the world. In this final project, each team addressed a business need facing a Berkley organization by developing a bold, forward looking hypothesis and presenting their concept in a short video for an executive audience The goal was to spark innovative thinking and inspire ideas that could help shape W.R. Berkley’s future.

Sponsored by Glen Riddell, CEO of Berkley Re–Asia Pacific, Brent’s team, the Berkley Ballers, took on an exciting question: How can Berkley more effectively identify key lines of business specialists and share that expertise quickly across the W.R. Berkley enterprise? Using SPARK! and guided by the tutelage of their coach, Sharon Murphy, Acadia Regional VP and Branch Manager, the team

brainstormed more than 20 ideas before consolidating them to 9 contenders After the rating process an ambitious concept rose to the top: an AI powered chatbot designed to streamline the existing Berkley search engine.

This proposed solution would elevate Berkley’s internal search experience by making it faster, smarter, and more intuitive With an AI chatbot, employees could simply ask questions in their natural language, receive tailored summaries and specialist recommendations instantly, and access information from across Berkley all from a single, streamlined interface No more navigating multiple companies’ websites or searching through disparate systems; expertise would be at employees’ fingertips.

To explore the team’s vision including their hypothesis and the key assumptions that need to be tested take a look at the video below and discover how AI driven innovation could unlock new levels of collaboration and efficiency across Berkley

Introducing the Innovation Theme for 2026

Each year, Berkley Innovation chooses a specific theme to focus Innovation efforts for the year The 2026 theme is “Innovation with Purpose, Together ” What does that mean? We will be focusing on: Aligning the use of our common Innovation platform and processes with the strategic objectives of our businesses and practice groups. Coming together to define and solve problems by fostering collaboration between businesses, shared services, and practice groups

Innovation Leaders will be receiving additional information about how we’re going to be implementing this theme throughout the year.
