Hearing from our U14BCs Coach...

The 14Bs have had an exciting start to the season, despite coming away with 3 losses. Following their most recent match, here is what Mr Fellows has to say about their performance and a reflection of the season so far…

U14s Hockey at BGS continues to grow this term.  As well as a committed and high-quality “As” squad of ~15 players, we have some 30 other players who have already played for a “BCs” team this season.   Some of these players have the potential to develop and progress towards the A-team squad if they wish, while some will prefer to play in the more relaxed and sociable environment of “Team BCs”.  All of them, however, have brought a terrific attitude to playing together, working hard as a team, and demonstrating the core values of Kindness, Integrity and Rigour, as well as Teamwork and Respect, both on and off the pitch. This Thursday, we earned our first win of the season, and for a few girls, the first win for BGS!

As a coach, my highlight so far this season has been the number of players so keen to play.  My aim is to enable all players to keep playing team sport (and hockey in particular) for as long as possible.  I’d love to see these players continuing to enjoy playing hockey in the Senior teams in the next few years, and beyond into adulthood. It’s great when so many want to play, travelling to long away fixtures together or representing the school in after-school matches at home.

Last Saturday’s matches were a great example of this.  We fielded 2 full teams (with substitutes) against Dean Close; one at home and one away.  Thanks to all the players, especially those who volunteered to travel to the long away match to ensure that all players could play in either of the 2 games.  Bella Kempt’s goal in the 1-1 draw at the away fixture was a brilliant demonstration of teamwork, not just on the field of play, but across the whole squad this season. Thanks to all the players and their families for the support so far this season.

Hearing from our U15Bs Coach

The U15Bs have had a stellar start to the season with comprehensive wins against both KES Bath and Kingswood and they look to carry that on for the rest of the season. Here is what Miss Webb has to say about their season so far and what it is like coaching a team at BGS

1. What has been your biggest highlight of your season this year?

Henry Want and Jamie Richards making a textbook doubleteam tackle on the opposition Kingswood player.

2. When has there been an occasion where kindness, integrity or rigour has been displayed during one of your rugby games?

Seeing the effort that many of the U15s are putting in this year, especially when it comes to improving their game understanding and overall knowledge of the game.

3. What do you enjoy most about coaching a rugby team at BGS?

Seeing the kids in their best versions of themselves at times and being able to use the relationships built on the pitch when I am back in the classroom.
