SENIOR SCHOOL CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Introduction The Co-Curricular Activity programme is designed to enhance and complement our curriculum. CCAs are offered from 3-4pm every school day (except Friday) by all our teachers and support staff. We offer a broad range of activities including creative, active, mindful and cerebral. Other activities will be introduced according to pupil demand. Pupils will have the opportunities to experience different activities throughout the year but, once they have signed up to an activity, they are expected to honour that commitment until the end of term when they will be offered new activities the following term. An extra cost will apply for CCAs which use an external provider/trainer, e.g. Public Speaking & Competitive Debate, Chess and Hip Hop Dance.
Selection Understanding CCA Designations At Brighton College Vietnam, Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are grouped into four main categories to help students and parents choose activities that best suit their interests and goals:
C – Creative
Focuses on artistic expression and imagination.
Examples: Art and Design, Drama, Music Ensembles, creative thought Purpose: Nurtures creativity, self-expression, and appreciation of the arts.
A – Activity
Physical or skill-based activities promoting fitness and teamwork.
Examples: Sports Teams, Dance, Outdoor Adventure Purpose: Encourages healthy lifestyles, resilience, and collaboration.

S – Service
Emphasizes community engagement and social responsibility.
Examples: Charity Clubs, Environmental Action Groups, Peer Mentoring Purpose: Develops empathy, leadership, and global citizenship.

Examples: EAL, Mandarin, Y11 Subject Clinics & Homework clubs Purpose: Deepens subject knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
CAS and the IB Programme CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, Service, and it is a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
Creativity: Arts and creative thinking experiences. Activity: Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle. Service: Voluntary exchange that benefits others and the community.

Why is CAS important? CAS helps students develop personal and interpersonal skills through experiential learning. It encourages balance, reflection, and a sense of responsibility, complementing the academic rigor of the IB Diploma.
Connection to CCAs: Many CCAs align with CAS strands, allowing students to fulfill CAS requirements while pursuing their interests.
Special Designations To help parents and students understand access and costs, some CCAs carry additional markers: Invite-only: Certain CCAs are reserved for students who meet specific criteria (e.g., skill level, team selection, auditions). These activities require an invitation from the school or CCA leader.

Some CCAs involve additional costs for materials, coaching, or external providers. These will be clearly marked with a symbol in the CCA list. Fees can be found in the CCA description and communication surrounding payment will take place after confirmation of the CCA place.

Monday Activities Badminton (Invite only) This co-curricular activity is designed for pupils who have shown interest or potential in racquet sports and are invited to further develop their badminton skills in a more focused setting. The programme provides a supportive yet structured environment where pupils can refine their techniques, build consistency, and grow in confidence through guided practice and gameplay. Open Volleyball (KS3) The Open Volleyball CCA provides pupils with an opportunity to learn and enjoy volleyball in a fun, inclusive, and active environment. Open to players of all skill levels, this CCA focuses on developing fundamental volleyball techniques such as passing, setting, serving, and teamwork through drills, friendly matches, and group activities. Participants will improve their physical fitness, coordination, and game understanding while building friendships and sportsmanship. Pickleball (Senior) If you enjoy playing Pickle ball or just want to find out how to play, then join this club to discover this new and exciting ball game. Whether preparing for the skills required to make the squad, or simply wanting to enjoy the game with friends, players will train in a fun, competitive, and supportive environment. Outcomes: Enhance individual ball control, passing, and shooting techniques. Understand and apply basic team formations and tactics. U13 Football Squad (Invite only) (Y7-9) Join our after-school U13s Football Club and take your game to the next level. Pupils will develop their skills through fun games, challenges and small-sided matches while building confidence and teamwork. Academic/Creative Codebreakers Club (Y7-11) Codebreakers is a hands-on problem-solving club where pupils tackle challenges, puzzles, escape-room style activities, ciphers, strategy games and coding tasks. Through teamwork, creativity and critical thinking, students will learn how to analyse problems, develop solutions and apply their skills across digital and non-digital contexts in a fun and engaging environment. Learning Outcomes: Develop logical, critical and strategic thinking skills; Strengthen problem-solving abilities through a variety of challenges; Learn to decode and create simple ciphers and codes.

The Advanced Guitar Club is the perfect place to refine your technique, expand your repertoire, and unlock new skills. Whether you’re aiming to master your favorite songs, explore advanced styles, or jam with fellow guitarists, this is where you’ll grow as a musician while having fun making music together. C# Coding Learn GUI coding using C#. This co-curricular activity introduces pupils to the fundamentals of Graphical User Interface (GUI) programming using C#. Pupils will learn how to design and build interactive desktop applications through a hands-on, projectbased approach. The programme focuses on developing practical coding skills while encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and logical thinking. Outcomes: Pupils will be able to create GUI applications like Payroll System, Online Quiz Program, Designing calculator. Any sort of applications that require button, textbox, dropdown boxes, check boxes navigating between screen etc.
Dungeons and Dragons Taking part in the fantasy roleplaying game D&D. Throughout, pupils will develop a range of skills including storytelling, problem solving, teamwork. They will develop confidence in interacting with peers. Outcomes: Develop storytelling and narrative-building skills. Apply problem-solving and critical thinking in role-play scenarios. Strengthen teamwork and communication within a group setting. Build confidence in social interaction and creative expression.

Inter-school business/ entrepreneurship competition prep club The inter-school business/entrepreneurship competition club is a student led, teacher advised business competition where participants compete in events like marketing, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship through role-plays, and prepared projects. At the local level, students compete within Hanoi, solving real-world business scenarios and presenting solutions to judges. Top performers advance to national-level competitions where they face the best students from across the country, gaining recognition, networking opportunities, and practical business experience. The club will also be seeking out opportunities for any other local business competitions around Hanoi. Outcomes: Apply marketing, finance, and entrepreneurial principles to real-world scenarios. Other than for the competitive, strategic warring aspect, it is also a game that develops higher-level and elite skills. Chess has significant value for developing cognitive and life skills. It fosters strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Beyond the game itself, chess can improve concentration, memory, and attention span, and can even positively impact academic performance, particularly in mathematics. Bright Minds Lounge (invite only) Bright Minds Lounge is a calm, creative space for bright, girl leaders who have something unique to contribute to our school community. We meet weekly for hands-on activities, mindful crafts and relaxed research that gently build confidence and understanding of different ways of thinking and learning. Each month we explore a new theme - from neurodiversity to social politics and self-advocacy. The group offers a low-pressure environment where thoughtful girls can unwind, connect, and develop their strengths and plan ways to give back to the community in a supportive, low pressure setting. KS3 EAL support KS3 EAL Support helps students with homework and improves their English skills. We focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening, using the work you bring from class. It is a supportive place to ask questions, learn useful vocabulary, and build confidence in every subject.

Tuesday Creative Meditation and mindfulness This co-curricular activity introduces Key Stage 3 pupils to the principles and practices of meditation and mindfulness. Through short guided sessions, breathing exercises, and reflective activities, pupils develop awareness of their thoughts and emotions, learn techniques to manage stress, and build focus and resilience in a supportive environment. Outcomes: Pupils will demonstrate simple mindfulness techniques (e.g. breathing, body scan). Show improved focus and concentration during activities. Develop strategies to manage stress and anxiety. Build resilience and positive wellbeing habits for daily life.
Strategic Games This CCA provides students with a space to unwind while engaging in intellectually stimulating and strategic games. Activities include traditional Vietnamese games such as Ô ăn quan, chơi chuyền, cá ngựa, as well as modern strategy games like X‑O, logic puzzles, and board‑based problem‑solving challenges. Tuesday Creative Vietnamese Cultural Heritage (Y10-13)(invite only) This CCA establishes a focused group dedicated to discovering and showcasing the richness of Vietnam's cultural heritage through its literary works, films, folklore and performing arts. The ensemble will engage in in depth research and creative workshops aimed at transforming these cultural masterpieces into live performances. Outcomes Pupils will develop a deeper awareness and appreciation of Vietnam’s cultural heritage through the exploration of literature, folklore, performing arts and traditional customs. They will gain the confidence and communication skills necessary to present and share their understanding of Vietnamese culture with diverse audiences. Pupils will also contribute to and perform in key school events, including the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and Vietnam Culture Day, promoting and celebrating Vietnamese heritage and identity within an international school community.
Creative/ Service Set Design This will be a chance to support Drama, TET celebrations indeed anything that needs large impact pieces of art or objects. Perfect for anyone wanting to explore Art and working towards a brief. Outcomes: Explore artistic techniques for creating large-scale designs. Work collaboratively to support Drama and school events. Tuesday Service Animal welfare and community action This CCA invites pupils to make a real difference for animals in need. Working in partnership with a local shelter, pupils will support animal welfare through creative and community-focused action. From running the shelter's English-language social media to organising fundraising campaigns and creating adoption photography, pupils will take on genuine responsibility with visible impact with occasional visits to the shelter will bring the work to life. Outcomes: Support local organisation through meaningful, project-based work. Develop communication, creative, and project management skills. Produce real-world content including social media posts and adoption campaigns. Build cross-cultural awareness through partnership with a local and international community organisation. Contribute to animal welfare in Hanoi through fundraising and awareness initiatives.
Model United Nations (MUN) Model United Nations helps pupils to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Pupils will roleplay delegates to the United Nations, simulate UN committees, and learn about diplomacy, international relations, current world issues, and the UN itself. Outcomes: Learn principles and functions of the United Nations. Roleplay as delegates and simulate UN committees. Develop diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking skills. Understand international relations and current global issues.

Korean as an additional language This CCA offers students the opportunity to explore Korean language and culture beyond the classroom. Lego Robotics and Vex VR Join the exciting world of robotics and engineering through the Lego Robotics Competition! In this club, pupils will work in teams to design, build, and program robots to complete real-world challenges. Along the way, they’ll develop skills in coding, problemsolving, teamwork, and strategic thinking. This CCA prepares students to compete in official Lego Robotics tournaments, representing the school in a global STEM arena. Wednesday Creative Photography Discover the art of analogue photography in this hands-on club using film cameras and a real darkroom. Pupils will learn how to capture images on film and develop and print their own photos, exploring a slower, creative process beyond digital photography. Outcomes: Pupils will learn basic photography skills (composition, lighting, exposure). They will be introduced to the workings of a manual SLR camera as well as develop basic skills in darkroom technology. They will also hone their creativity and attention to detail.
School of Rock The College of Rock Workshop is designed for students who already have a band—or are ready to form one—and want structured rehearsal time with focused coaching. Bands sign up as a group and work on ensemble playing, choosing repertoire, improving musical ability, and developing a cohesive band sound. Each week includes rehearsal support, tips on ensemble balance, and opportunities to prepare for recording or performance at events. Pupils should form bands before joining. Those wishing to join without a band should see Mrs Humberstone to be put onto a waiting list. Outcomes: Through rehearsing in their own bands, students strengthen selfconfidence, leadership and communication skills. They learn to work with kindness and respect, approach music-making with curiosity, and grow in confidence as they refine their sound and prepare for performances.
Ceilidh/Folk Band Pupils will play guitar/violin/piano/woodwind/percussion. They will learn traditional and modern ceilidh (a traditional Scottish and Irish social gathering featuring music) and folk songs and play together as a band. In doing this, pupils will support each other in learning, developing, and performing pieces. Outcomes: Pupils will improve music reading ability. The band should hopefully become more pupil led over time and there should be an opportunity to take on leadership roles. Performance opportunies

Costume Design Workshop Pupils will explore the process of designing costumes for a school production, from research and concept development to measurements, costume planning, and organization. They will also learn essential backstage skills such as costume management, prop organisation, quick changes, and supporting performers during rehearsals and performances. Outcomes: This CCA will play a supporting role in preparing for next academic year’s school production by helping to organise costume materials, develop design concepts, and assist with backstage preparation. Pupils who demonstrate commitment and suitable skills may be selected to join the production backstage/ costume design team for the performance.
