Message from the Head of College

Dear Parents,

This week, we are delighted to share the first ever edition of the Brighton Review, which offers a insight into some of the many achievements of our pupils over the past year. It is a lovely celebration of their curiosity, confidence and kindness, as well as the dedication and skill of the staff who support them each day. You can read the online edition here

On Monday, we were also pleased to welcome Jemma Renshaw from Cyber Compass, a Singapore-based consultancy focused on cyber wellness, digital safety and online well-being. Jemma delivered separate talks to Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior School parents - thank you for all of you that were able to attend these discussions on this important topic.

Finally, congratulations to our Year 6 pupils who returned from the FOBISIA Games tired, but full of pride! We were delighted to hear such positive feedback from parents about the way the children supported one another, showed sportsmanship and represented the College so well. My thanks also go to the staff who accompanied and cared for them throughout the trip..

Message from the Head of Prep

Dear Brighton College Community,

This week’s newsletter is crafted from the feedback received from a Brighton College parent who attended the recent U11 FOBISIA games and shared their experiences and examples with me of what she believes makes our school and children special from witnessing their kindness firsthand. It is a powerful reminder that while we strive for excellence in all we do, it is the character of our pupils that truly sets them apart.

This week, our hearts are full as we welcome back our young athletes from the FOBISIA Games in Bangkok. It was an extraordinary experience that pushed our pupils to their limits, and the feedback we have received from them about their experience has been truly moving.

This year, our children moved up two competition categories, facing an exceptionally high calibre of athletes from across the region. While the initial shock of such elite competition was real, what happened next is what defines the Brighton spirit.

At Brighton College (Singapore), we celebrate both participation, the courage to step onto the field, and performance, the skill and grit required to succeed.

• Team Triumphs: A huge congratulations to our Boys Football team and our Tee-ball team, both of whom secured Silver medals! Their ability to stay composed under pressure was a masterclass in teamwork.

• Individual Achievements: We also celebrate our many individual medal winners. These results are the direct outcome of the Perseverance and Enthusiasm that they have poured into their craft over many months of training and we couldn’t be prouder of their podium places amongst such top competition.

• Personal Bests and Improvements: Beyond the podium, many of our pupils broke their own personal records. Whether it was a pupil who learned to swim only recently finishing mid-table in a high-level race, or runners shaving seconds off their sprints, these quiet wins are just as significant as any trophy.

While the medals are a wonderful bonus, the true FOBISIA magic lay in the moments between the whistles. Our parents witnessed a side of our pupils that made us all incredibly proud:

• Kindness in Competition: Our athletes were heard acknowledging the incredible skill of their opponents, viewing it as a privilege to compete alongside such talent, and using it as fuel to train harder.

• Selfless Teamwork: We saw pupils stepping aside to give teammates a chance to play in crucial matches and others encouraging their rivals with genuine kindness even when their own medal hopes had faded. One T-Baller, realising a win was out of reach, told the opposing team to “go out there and win it for all of us”, a stunning display of perspective and maturity.

• Leadership and Perseverance: From rallying the football team to “play for our friends who haven’t got medals yet” to inspiring teammates with words of belief before a semi-final, the leadership on display from our pupils was exceptional. Even after the most difficult days on the track, our pupils finished with smiles, demonstrating the true meaning of our pelican value, perseverance.

An event of this magnitude requires immense dedication. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the staff involved in the FOBISIA Games. Their calmness, energy, and unwavering care for the children ensured that every pupil felt safe and supported while navigating the highs and lows of international competition. Thank you Mrs. Snell, Mr. Johnson and Ms. Ping for your leadership, care, and support to deliver this opportunity to our pupils.

I’d also like to thank the parents who supported all of our children with such enthusiasm. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and passionate parents who travel to these events to be the Brighton cheer squad for the children. It makes these occasions even more memorable and special for them and we appreciate it hugely.

Our pupils have returned with more than just medals; they have returned with a broader perspective, new friendships, and a bond forged through shared experience. They have truly grown beyond the classroom, and we are immensely proud of every single one of them. These are the opportunities that create lifelong memories and what school is all about.

Brighton Review

We are delighted to share the first-ever edition of The Brighton Review, celebrating some of the many achievements, experiences and memorable moments from across the College over the past year. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, support and encouragement of our wonderful school community.

Reminders

Loco Parentis

If all parents / legal guardians are out of the country for up to seven days, an In Loco Parentis form needs to be completed. This will provide contact details for the designated guardian for that period of time. Forms can be found on the Parent Portal.

Guardianship Forms

Some parents / legal guardians may work away from Singapore on a more permanent basis. If all legal guardians for a child are out of country for longer than 7 days, a guardian must be appointed to provide the necessary care of the child. There are two forms that need to be completed. One by the parent and one by the guardian. The forms can be found on the Parent Portal.

Contact Information

We ask that all parents / guardians keep the school updated with changes to phone numbers, addresses and email addresses. In the case of an emergency, the school needs this information to be up to date. All pupils need to have two emergency contacts. These points of contact must have Singaporean phone numbers. If your phone number or address changes, please do send an update to reception@brightoncollege.edu.sg.

Keeping Our Pupils Safe: A Nut-Free Campus Reminder

This is a gentle reminder to support the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, particularly those with severe allergies. We kindly ask that you do not pack any food or snacks containing nuts or nut-based products in your child’s snack/lunchbox. This includes items such as peanut butter, Nutella, biscuits and any products that may contain traces of nuts.

Should you plan on sending a birthday cake to celebrate your child’s special day, please be aware of the following requirements. All cakes brought into school must be:

• completely nut-free

• individually wrapped per portion

• accompanied by a full ingredients list, shared with the class teacher prior to the celebration

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

A gentle reminder that Brighton College (Singapore) has been selected as a finalist in the Little Steps Asia Education Awards 2026/2027 in the following categories:

Brighton International Fair 2026 - Parent Volunteers Needed

Following the email shared earlier last week, we’re delighted to remind families about our upcoming Brighton International Fair on Thursday, 18 June 2026!

Each Year Group will represent a country, bringing it to life through food, games, and interactive activities to create a joyful “journey around the world” for our pupils. We have already seen some responses from parents - thank you! There’s still time to get involved, and we would love more families to join us in making this event truly special.

Parents can support by:

• Joining a small Year Group committee

• Helping to plan and run food and / or activity booths

The school will provide funding, logistical support, and food safety guidance while you bring the creativity and community spirit!

If you’re keen to be part of this experience, we invite you to register your interest via this form.

While the original deadline was Friday, 8 May 2026, we are happy to keep registrations open over the weekend for anyone who might like a little more time to consider. Your Community Engagement Lead will then be in touch.

Brighton Talks Episode 15: Building Healthy Minds and Online Safety with the Breck Foundation

We would like to invite parents to join us on Tuesday, 19 May, for an important morning session focused on children’s well-being and online safety.

The morning will begin with a short talk from our school counsellor, Mel Gunawan, on supporting children to develop healthy minds and positive well-being. This will be followed by a powerful and practical session from the Breck Foundation, a charity founded by Lorin LaFave in memory of her son, Breck, who tragically lost his life following online grooming through a gaming relationship.

Online safety remains a growing concern. According to the NSPCC, there has been an 89% increase in online grooming crimes over the last six years. ChildLight also reports that more than 300 million children each year are victims of online sexual exploitation and abuse. This is a growing problem that we cannot ignore.

The Breck Foundation session will help parents understand what pupils have learnt, recognise warning signs of grooming, and feel more confident having open conversations about online safety at home. The Foundation reports that 9 out of 10 young people say they would act differently online after taking part in a Breck Foundation workshop.

U11 FOBISIA Games

The U11 FOBISIA Games got underway this week, providing a fantastic five days of sport for our children. Moving up two divisions this year brought an added level of challenge, and every medal was hard earned.

On the track, the team performed very strongly, securing gold, silver and bronze medals across the 800m, 200m and 60m events, alongside further success in field events such as triple jump and shot put.

In T-ball, the team worked hard to achieve a well-deserved silver medal, showing great teamwork throughout.

The final day saw another second-place finish in football after a closely contested match that went into extra time. Although unlucky not to win, the performance and effort were outstanding.

Most importantly, the children represented the school brilliantly. They demonstrated perseverance, teamwork and a positive attitude throughout, making it a memorable and rewarding experience for all!

Brighton Talks Recap: Raising Children in a Digital Age

We were delighted to host our recent Brighton Talk, “Raising Children in a Digital Age,” delivered in collaboration with Cyber Compass and led by Founder, Jemma Renshaw. This session marks the beginning of an important series of conversations focused on supporting our pupils’ digital wellbeing. We would like to thank those parents who were able to join us for their engagement and thoughtful participation. BFG Theatre Trip

Last Wednesday, a group of Year 6–10 pupils enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Esplanade Theatre to watch Roald Dahl’s The BFG. It was a magical and exciting performance, full of laughter and fun from beginning to end. The show was incredibly clever, with excellent use of puppetry, special effects, and fantastic performances from the cast.

The story left us all mesmerised and full of excitement, while also allowing many of us to relive some cherished childhood memories. It was a fun and memorable experience, offering a wonderful escape from reality for everyone who attended.

A huge thank you to Mr Stratford and Miss Mills for accompanying the trip and helping to make it such a success. We look forward to organising more theatre trips in the future.

Three Little Pigs

Mr Davies challenged the children’s knowledge of ‘The three little pigs’ with “The true story of the Three Little Pigs!” He captivated the PCP Years 1-3 with his storytelling skills, and the children managed the comprehension quiz confidently.
