Message from the Head of College
Dear Parents,
It has been excellent to welcome pupils back to school for the start of Term 3. I think it’s fair to say that the first week has already been full of excitement and energy!
Two events have stood out in particular. On Wednesday, pupils marked Earth Day with a range of activities designed to help them think more carefully about sustainability and the part we can all play in looking after the environment. These included litter picks, the promotion of packaging-free snacks and PSHE sessions linked to sustainability. Our Earth Hour, with no air-conditioning, lights or computers, was also a useful reminder of the importance of conserving energy, something that no doubt feels especially important for all of us at the moment.
Another highlight was our Make a Difference Day on Thursday, during which pupils across the school took part in a ‘move-a-thon’ to support PeopleStories, a charity that helps improve access to education for children in Cambodia. The morning fun-run around the neighbourhood was a joy to behold, with several hundred staff, parents and pupils (including some of our youngest children), taking part. Thank you to everyone who supported the event, whether by running, encouraging others or through sponsoring our pupils.
I would also like to thank those of you who joined us for our bus tendering exercise this week. We heard from three prospective providers, as we continue the process of selecting a new bus company for the forthcoming academic year. Once this process is complete, we will update parents as soon as possible. I wish everyone a very enjoyable weekend.

Dear Brighton College Community,
Welcome back to Term 3! There is a specific kind of energy that fills the air at the start of the final term - a blend of joy, seasoned friendship, and a shared drive to finish the year strongly. Walking through the gates this week, I have been truly blown away by the “pulse” of our school. This week’s newsletter is a celebration of the various circles that make up our community: our pupils, our parents, and our global network.
Friday Five: This Week’s Highlights
The Joy of Reconnection: Seeing the children return for Term 3 has been the highlight of my week. The sense of joy as they reconnected with friends and sought out their teachers was palpable. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the social-educational sanctuary we have built here at BCS, a place where every child feels supported and excited to learn.
Earth Day - Small Actions, Big Impact: Our community’s pride was on full display as we celebrated Earth Day. It was inspiring to see our pupils take ownership of their environment, articulating a genuine desire to make a positive difference through their actions. This sense of stewardship is a vital part of the global citizenship we foster in the Prep school.
Make a Difference Day: This spirit of action was mirrored by our Make a Difference Day. Our community came together with incredible energy to support those less fortunate than ourselves. By focusing on charity and giving, we are building an outward looking culture based on our core value of Kindness. Seeing the sea of “moving” pupils and parents was a sight to behold! Thanks to all of you for being involved and being so generous with your sponsorship and involvement of this wonderful event.
Partnership in Transition: The relationship with our parent community continues to grow stronger and I was delighted to see so many of you involved in the Fun Run, and equally pleased by the turnout for our Year 3–5 Open Morning where existing parents explored the Prep and Senior school spaces together. This is a vital part of ensuring our pupils (and parents) feel confident and prepared for their next big transition within Brighton College (Singapore).
A World-Leading Network: Finally, it was moving to see the wider Brighton College global community united for Make a Difference Day. The vision and values of Brighton are being actioned across the world simultaneously. As members of this network, and the wider Cognita family, our pupils are connected to something far bigger than themselves. This connection doesn’t end at graduation; our pupils will always be Brighton alumni, possessing a global network to tap into for the rest of their lives.
I feel incredibly blessed to work alongside such proactive, positive, and Pelican Proud parents. Thank you for making this community as vibrant and welcoming as it is.

Reminders
Loco Parentis
If all parents / legal guardians are out of the country for up to seven days, an In Loco Parentis form needs to be completed. This will provide contact details for the designated guardian for that period of time. Forms can be found on the Parent Portal.
Guardianship Forms
Some parents / legal guardians may work away from Singapore on a more permanent basis. If all legal guardians for a child are out of country, for longer than 7 days, a guardian must be appointed to provide the necessary care of the child. There are two forms that need to be completed. One by the parent and one by the guardian. The forms can be found on the Parent Portal.
Contact Information
We ask that all parents / guardians keep the school updated with changes to phone numbers, addresses and email addresses. In the case of an emergency, the school needs this information to be up to date. All pupils need to have two emergency contacts. These points of contact must have Singaporean phone numbers. If your phone number or address changes, please do send an update to reception@brightoncollege.edu.sg
Keeping Our Pupils Safe: A Nut-Free Campus Reminder
This is a gentle reminder to support the safety and well-being of all pupils, particularly those with severe allergies. We kindly ask that you do not pack any food or snacks containing nuts or nut-based products in your child’s snack/lunchbox. This includes items such as peanut butter, Nutella, biscuits and any products that may contain traces of nuts.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

May as a Month of Kindness and Well-being at Brighton College (Singapore)
Across Singapore and the UK, May is a meaningful time to focus on kindness and wellbeing. In Singapore, May is recognised as Kindness Month, while in the UK, Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May) highlights the importance of mental wellness. Together, these observances reflect shared values of empathy, resilience, and care for one another.
In support of this, Brighton College Singapore will be hosting a series of Brighton Talks parent sessions focused on the digital well-being of children. We begin on 4 May with “Raising Children in a Digital Age.” In the weeks ahead, sessions will also explore how parents can support positive mental health in children and youth, as well as navigate cyber risks children may encounter online.
Further details will be shared in the next issue of the newsletter. We look forward to partnering with you in supporting the well-being of every pupil.

Reminder: Staying Safe on Campus
Building on our earlier message before the Term Break, you will now see a poster at the College lobby as a gentle reminder for all pupils, parents and visitors to remove headphones or AirPods when entering the school grounds.
We encourage both students and parents to observe this practice. Staying free of headphones on campus helps everyone remain alert and contributes to a safe and considerate environment for all.

Make-a-Difference Day
Make-a-Difference Day at Brighton College (Singapore) was a truly uplifting celebration of community, compassion, and action. Pupils, staff, and families came together to support meaningful causes and make a positive impact. A key highlight was our very first Family Fun Run, which saw fantastic attendance from across the school community and created a brilliant atmosphere of energy and togetherness.
During the day, pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in a sponsored Move-a-thon, showing great enthusiasm and determination as they completed a range of physical challenges. It was wonderful to see senior school pupils stepping in to support and encourage the younger children, demonstrating real leadership and school spirit. In addition, pupils had the opportunity to take part in a workshop and visit the charity stall on Brighton Pier, hosted by PeopleStories—our partner charity for the event—helping to deepen their understanding of the difference they are making.
A huge thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm, generosity, and support. Please remember to hand in all sponsorship forms and money as soon as possible so we can total the amount raised and celebrate the impact we have made together.

Make-a-Difference Day in Photos
Earth Day
This week, the entire Brighton College community has celebrated Earth Day/Week and committed to meaningful action for our planet. Across the whole school, we celebrated ‘Earth Hour’ by teaching one period with no lights, air con or computers. We also launched our first ‘No Waste Wednesday’ - it was amazing to see the efforts the pupils had made to bring in snacks with no wastage. Thank you to all parents for your help with this. This initiative will continue till the end of term.
In Junior Prep learning extended far beyond the classroom. Students explored creative expression through Earth Day printing, arts and crafts, and an inspiring “Trash to Treasure” project, transforming recycled materials into innovative pieces, many of which will be featured at the eco-stall during the art exhibition on 17th June. A standout experience was the creation of plantable paper from recycled materials, reinforcing the idea that even small actions can give back to the environment. The much-anticipated dress-up day brought these ideas vividly to life, with students arriving as recycling trucks, turtles, ocean-themed creations, and in costumes crafted entirely from recycled materials, each carrying powerful messages that sparked meaningful conversations about protecting our planet.
Meanwhile in the Prep and Senior School, all pupils have created a pledge to reduce waste at home or in school in their PSHE lesson. They have also taken part in a BCS sustainability slogan and logo competition (entries due on 8th May).
A particular highlight was our Year 7 Volcano Showcase, where students proudly presented extraordinary volcanoes, they have designed and created as part of a 5-week homework project last term.

Singapore and Asian Schools Math
Olympiad (SASMO)
We are delighted to share that this year brought our strongest results yet in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), a highly challenging international competition that tests not only mathematical knowledge, but also advanced problem-solving, logical reasoning, and creative thinking under pressure.
A special congratulations goes to Lucas Chen (Year 6), who achieved a Gold award. Silver awards were earned by Zero Su and Nathaniel Tan (Year 7), along with William Graham (Year 10). Bronze awards were achieved by Jayant Singh (Year 1); Kyden Huang, William Ehn, Sharon Jang and Conor Weiner (Year 5); Lucas Wong (Year 7); Altan Asgarsoy (Year 8); Wyatt Martin and Airi Liu (Year 9); and Emilie Satchwell (Year 10).
In addition, Honourable Mentions, recognising strong mathematical ability, were awarded to Lewis Ball (Year 1), Tianmo Zhao (Year 2), Kyluh Huang (Year 3), and Nika Darovskikh and Ryan Weiner (Year 4).
Well done to everyone who took part. Simply participating in SASMO is a significant achievement, and all pupils should be very proud of their effort in such a demanding and competitive challenge.
Leonardo Competition
The Leonardo Competition is an international initiative shared across the Brighton College family of schools, with the aim of enriching and celebrating the cultural and artistic life of pupils across the College community. This year’s theme, ‘Beyond Tomorrow’, inspired pupils to think creatively about the future across a range of disciplines. The breadth and imagination shown in this year’s entries have been truly impressive. In addition to three winners in each subject, Heads of Department selected one outstanding entry for interpretation of the theme to represent Brighton College (Singapore) in the international competition. We are delighted to congratulate these pupils on their achievement.
English: Inspired by the futuristic theme, pupils were invited to explore an imagined world of the future through a form of their choice, such as creative writing, poetry or drama. Bella Graham’s particularly striking poem presented an imaginative and unsettling vision of the future through the extended metaphor of an unwinnable board game, demonstrating both creativity and sophisticated analytical thinking.
Art: Pupils explored the theme using a wide range of media, including paint, pencil, charcoal and modelling materials. A standout piece by Frankie Somner depicted a thought-provoking and concerning vision of the future, reflecting on materialism and its damaging impact on the oceans, and combining technical skill with a powerful message.
Design and Technology: As part of their IGCSE coursework, Year 10 pupils were challenged to design and create a futuristic table centrepiece. Each outcome needed to incorporate a range of materials, machinery and tools, while functioning as a holder for a test tube vase. One innovative design by Will Graham, inspired by the structure of a hot air balloon from a family holiday, reimagined how we might travel into the future, demonstrating both creativity and practical ingenuity.
Music: Pupils explored the theme through electronic music production using SoundTrap. They created original compositions by designing and recording their own samples, experimenting with layering, rhythm, structure and digital effects. Henry Gee produced a dynamic futuristic dance track, confidently combining original sounds and demonstrating a strong understanding of how music can be shaped to create atmosphere and texture.

SAQ National Schools Artistic Swimming Championship
We are delighted to share that Alena achieved outstanding success while representing Brighton College (Singapore) at the 14th SAQ National Schools Artistic Swimming Championship. She secured a Gold medal in the team routine, along with Silver medals in both the solo and duet events. Congratulations, Alena, on this fantastic achievement - we are incredibly proud of you!
