Message from the Head of College
Dear Parents,
Our Year 6 pupils have been having an super time on their residential trip to Tioman. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the staff who have been looking after the children so well during these trips. We very much look forward to welcoming them back this evening, though I suspect a number of them may be rather tired by the time they get home!
I would also like to thank all those parents who supported us so generously with our Hari Raya celebrations in school on Monday. It was a thoroughly worthwhile and informative occasion, and the children learned a great deal more about this important festival. We are very grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success.
This week we were also pleased to welcome Dave Baldwin, Cognita’s new Group CEO, and Simon Camby, Global Director of Education, to Brighton College (Singapore). Mr Baldwin, who began his career as a teacher and has been with Cognita for many years, was keen to visit BCS, along with the other schools in the region, as soon as possible after his appointment. During his visit, he spent time in lessons and spoke with many of the children to hear more about their experience of life at Brighton.
Finally, I am very much looking forward to seeing many of you tonight at our open air cinema event. A great deal of effort has gone into the various stalls being run by our senior school pupils, and I am sure it will be a most enjoyable evening.

Dear Brighton College Community,
It has been a week of immense pride and high energy at Brighton College (Singapore). Whether looking at our pupils navigating international waters or seeing them shine under the watchful eyes of global educational leaders, the “Brighton Way” is evident in every corner of our school.
Friday Five: This Week’s Highlights
Year 6 Adventure in Tioman: Our Year 6 pupils have had an incredible residential trip to Tioman. These experiences are where lifelong memories are forged and where our values truly come to life outside the classroom. A huge thank you to Emma Shea for her expert leadership of this trip, and to Davina Lanigan, Liam Johnson, and Jon Snell for their wonderful support in ensuring our pupils had a safe, adventurous, and transformative experience.
Getting Stuck into PE: One of the highlights of my week was to take PE lessons with our Year 1–3 pupils. There is nothing quite like the raw enthusiasm of our younger learners! It was a joy to see them displaying leadership and our other Pelican values in such an active setting. Seeing them encourage one another and take initiative during drills is a clear sign that our values-based education is taking firm root.
Welcoming Global Leadership: We were honoured to welcome the new Global Cognita CEO, Dave Baldwin, along with the Global Group Chief Education Officer, Simon Camby to BCS this week. Sharing the work we have been doing and showing them our continued growth was a proud moment for the whole team. They were incredibly impressed by our school, but especially by our pupils, who, as always, were our best ambassadors.
Celebrating Progress in Reports: I have spent much of this week reading through our pupils’ reports, and I can honestly say there is nothing better in the world than seeing the tangible progress each child has made this year. I am so proud of their efforts. This growth is only possible because of the golden triangle of support of our dedicated teachers and staff, our hardworking pupils, and, of course, you - our incredibly supportive parents.
Movie Night Magic: The excitement is reaching a fever pitch for our upcoming Movie Night! These community events are the heartbeat of our school, and I can’t wait to join you all for what promises to be a fantastic evening. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to connect informally and celebrate the close-knit community we’ve built together.
As we move toward the weekend, I hope you all have a chance to reflect on the fantastic progress your children are making. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Movie Night!

Keeping Our Pupils Safe: A Nut-Free Campus Reminder
This is a gentle reminder to support the safety and well-being of all pupils, particularly those with severe allergies. We kindly ask that you do not pack any food or snacks containing nuts or nut-based products in your child’s snack/lunchbox. This includes items such as peanut butter, Nutella, biscuits and any products that may contain traces of nuts.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Reminders
Loco Parentis
If all parents / legal guardians are out of the country for up to seven days, an In Loco Parentis form needs to be completed. This will provide contact details for the designated guardian for that period of time. Forms can be found on the Parent Portal.
Guardianship Forms
Some parents / legal guardians may work away from Singapore on a more permanent basis. If all legal guardians for a child are out of country, for longer than 7 days, a guardian must be appointed to provide the necessary care of the child. There are two forms that need to be completed. One by the parent and one by the guardian. The forms can be found on the Parent Portal.
Contact Information
We ask that all parents / guardians keep the school updated with changes to phone numbers, addresses and email addresses. In the case of an emergency, the school needs this information to be up to date. All pupils need to have two emergency contacts. These points of contact must have Singaporean phone numbers. If your phone number or address changes, please do send an update to reception@brightoncollege.edu.sg.

Parenting in a Digital Age: Next Sessions
Following the positive feedback from our first session on ‘Parenting in a Digital Age’. We are pleased to announce that after the Easter Holidays we will be offering further sessions for our parent community on this topic. As promised, we will be splitting the sessions to focus on age-related conversations and topics. We will be working with Cyber Compass a professional organisation to help us as a community dive deeper into age specific topics in 3 separate sessions:
1. Early Years: “First Screens: Building Healthy Digital Habits from the Start” (Ages 4–7)
2. Middle Childhood: “Navigating the Digital World: Safety, Balance, and Responsibility” (Ages 8–12)
3. Teenagers: “Teens in the Digital Age: Supporting Independence While Staying Connected” (Ages 13–18)
For us to customise these sessions, we would really value your input via this form. It will help us understand our collective concerns and make the sessions as meaningful as possible. Once we have the parental input, we will put out the dates of the session via the newsletter during the start of our summer term.
Earth Day 2026
To mark Earth Day on Wednesday, 22nd April, we are hosting a dress-up competition for our Junior Prep pupils. From recycled materials to nature-inspired outfits, pupils are encouraged to get creative and showcase their ideas about protecting our environment.

Eid al-Fitr Celebration
On Monday 23rd March, the College community came together to celebrate Eid with a vibrant and inclusive whole-school event. Over 500 pupils attended the ‘Eid Souk’ on Level 4, transforming the space into a lively hub of culture, creativity, and community spirit.
Pupils enjoyed a wide range of hands-on activities, including ketupat making, intricate henna design, and crafting moon ornaments - complete with plenty of glitter! There were also opportunities to write messages of kindness, reinforcing the values of generosity and reflection that are central to Eid.
A highlight for many was the food tasting, where pupils sampled a variety of traditional treats such as sweet and spiced biscuits, kuih keria, pineapple tarts, and dates. Alongside the festivities, pupils learned about the meaning and significance of Eid through music and educational displays, deepening their understanding of this important celebration.
It was wonderful to see pupils of all ages, from 18 months to 15 years, fully engaged and enjoying the experience together. We extend our sincere thanks to the parent helpers who generously gave their time to create stalls, decorate the space, and facilitate activities. Their contribution reflects the strength and warmth of our school community. As our first event of this kind, the Eid Souk was a tremendous success, and we look forward to building on it in the years ahead.

Leonardo Competition
A huge thank you to everyone who entered the Beyond Tomorrow art competition for Year 3 and Year 4! With over 20 fantastic entries spanning 2D, sculpture, and digital art, choosing the winners was no easy task. All participants will receive three Pelican points for their creativity and effort. Our top three winners, who will go forward for the BCI challenge, are Haon Lee, Mia Williams, and Amaira Advani.
A big well done also to all pupils who submitted entries for the English category. We were incredibly impressed by the creativity, imagination, and thoughtful engagement with the theme shown across the writing.
We’re also excited to announce that all art entries will be showcased in our art exhibition in June, celebrating the imagination and talent of every student!

NLCS Student Leadership Conference
On Wednesday , twelve pupils from Years 8-10 attended a Student Leadership Conference at NLCS, where they had the opportunity to collaborate and connect with peers from schools across the island. The conference focused on developing leadership through self-led initiatives, encouraging pupils to reflect on how leadership is demonstrated in everyday actions.
A central theme was the idea of “leading without a title,” emphasising that respect is earned through effort, integrity, and consistency rather than position alone. Pupils explored a range of leadership styles, supported by relatable examples from popular culture, which helped make key concepts both accessible and memorable. One particularly resonant idea was that leadership is defined by “what we do, not what we are called.”
Another highlight was the concept of a “pit stop mentality,” where effective teams operate with “voluntary versatility” - stepping beyond defined roles when needed, especially under pressure. This encouraged pupils to think about adaptability and teamwork in challenging and dynamic situations.
All our pupils engaged extremely positively throughout the day, contributing thoughtfully and representing the school with maturity. They returned with valuable insights, reflecting on their own roles as pupil leaders within BCS and considering how they can further contribute to the school community. The experience has provided much to build on as we continue to develop pupil leadership across the school.

Bubble Experience
What a spectacular morning we had in the outdoor area this week! Our Pufflings and Little Pufflings joined forces for a sensory experience that was nothing short of magical. The air was filled with more than just soap and water—it was filled with pure, unbridled joy and the sound of nonstop laughter. The fun continued as the children took the lead in their own bubble-making and water play. Little hands worked hard to master the art of the “perfect blow,” watching with wide eyes as their own creations drifted into the sky and onto their friends. The excitement reached a new level when the bottle squeezers came out! The children practiced their coordination while playfully spraying water toward one another, keeping everyone cool and giggling.
The highlight of our day was a very special appearance by the Bubble Lady. The children were absolutely captivated as she performed her incredible bubble show.
There were gasps of “wow!” as she created massive, shimmering bubbles that wobbled through the air. The children stood in total awe, watching the sunlight dance on the giant soapy films. As the Bubble Lady sent clouds of bubbles floating across the yard, the Pufflings went into high gear! There was a chorus of screams and giggles as they chased them down, jumping and reaching to see who could pop the biggest ones.

Elements Of Music
Reception have been learning about the building blocks of music, known as the ‘Elements of Music’.
Children have had the chance to take a deeper dive into ‘Instrumentation’ this week and have been able to get their hands (and mouths!) on the brass section!
Mrs Stratford used to teach brass for the Oxford Music Service and has a rich heritage in brass band music. Growing up she was a member of a silver brass band and everyone in her family can play a brass instrument. One of her uncles was the Principal Cornet player for the Metropolitan Police Band, and another uncle was the Principal Euphonium player for the Queen’s Guards.
The children in Reception have been able to have a go on the P-trumpets and the P-bones to give them an idea of how they can play a brass instrument. The key to being a good brass player is being able to blow a good raspberry! So, if your children come home and are making raspberries, they’re not being rude; they’re just practicing their brass technique!

The Little Red Riding Hood: The Wolf’s Perspective
Mr Davies challenged the PCP Y1-3’s knowledge of the original version of ‘The Little Red Riding Hood’ by reading from the wolf’s perspective! Our young English language learners were highly engaged with his skilful vocabulary instruction and mesmerised by his distinct voices for the different characters.
Thank you, Mr Davies. You have kickstarted their creative thinking skills by reading a simple classic story from a different lens.
