Dear Bridgton Academy community,
During a particularly cold week this January, I shared the above quote by Albert Camus with our Class of 2026 in Chapel. These winter months have reminded me how much I value what the Class of 2026 brings to campus—including remarkable empathy, compassion, and maturity as we move forward after the sudden loss of beloved faculty member, Coach Whit Lesure, in January. Having laughter and joy return to campus in the new year serves as a beautiful reminder of our collective strength: we are, and always will be, stronger together.
The first semester at Bridgton Academy has tested and strengthened our young men—they came to live in a new environment and successfully navigated daily challenges. Now, in the second semester, the environment is familiar—they have established habits and gained confidence. I can see the shift from observing and getting used to Bridgton, to enjoying and demonstrating that they can apply what they have learned to have an even stronger second semester.
Winter, like the second semester, brings a new lens to the same place. Our campus is snow covered and Long Lake is frozen. Maine winters are beautiful and harsh all at the same time. When campus is covered in snow, the world gets quiet and our focus naturally turns inward. Winter, like life sometimes, is not just something
to endure, it's a powerful time to clarify what matters to you and who you want to be. I love seeing students taking advantage of daily shuttles to Pleasant Mountain, ice fishing experiences, new classes, and new friendships—enjoying all of the opportunities that surround them here in North Bridgton.
During this time of reflection, we are proud to share with you Bridgton Academy’s Annual Report on Giving. In the following pages, we recognize those donors who have made gifts to the Academy from 7/1/2024 through 12/31/2025. We are grateful for our supporters and the remarkable difference you make for the Academy. I continue to enjoy any opportunity I have to meet Bridgton alumni, families, and friends from both near and far. Whether a Wolverine graduated in 1950 or 2025, stories of transformation, resiliency, and community weave throughout. I know that our Wolverines make the world a better place.

Laferriere Chair David Rosen Enhancing Student-Athlete Opportunities
The Laferriere Chair is Bridgton Academy’s most substantial teaching award and carries with it both honor and responsibility. The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide professional development opportunities and expanded teaching opportunities not only for the chairholder, but the Bridgton Academy community as a whole. When David Rosen—STEM instructor, Wolverine Program Director, and Outing Club Director—was awarded the role of Laferriere Chair, he understood and embraced the responsibility.
“I want it to make an immediate difference for students and see the process all the way through,” noted Rosen. “I want to roll out each piece (of the project) and see how it plays out.” Rosen’s plan, titled “Next Gen Wolverine,” incorporates a variety of modern technology into Bridgton’s teaching landscape. The first phase of his proposal included the addition of a new Reflexion Edge, a “light-based cognitive training tool that presents randomized LED stimuli on a touchscreen panel, prompting users to respond quickly with touches to test and train visual and brain skills like reaction time, peripheral vision, memory, and coordination.”
The Reflexion Edge is also used as a concussion assessment and tracking tool. “Every Bridgton student will get an initial score,” noted Rosen. “Then we’ll do a series of drills based on performance to track their progress.” Soon, virtual reality goggles will also be available for instructors and their students in Academy classrooms. “The intent is to have a direct impact on students in every class all three years of my Chair,” noted Rosen. He appears well on the way to meeting his goal and honoring the responsibility that comes with being the Laferriere Chair at Bridgton Academy.
Meet a Wolverine: Oliver Allersted ’26
When Holbaek, Denmark native Oliver Allersted realized college basketball was not going to happen directly out of secondary school, Bridgton Academy rose to the top of the list as the best choice to help realize his dream of American college basketball. “People that want the best for me and want me to succeed made this happen,” shared Oliver. “If I want to play college basketball, Bridgton is the place to be.” Within weeks of his arrival on campus, Oliver felt a sense of purpose and confirmation that he had made the right decision. “It is a great place to focus on your routine without distractions, and to dedicate more time to basketball,” noted Allersted. Oliver has not only accepted the Bridgton routine, he has embraced it and created his own. He follows a strict daily schedule that starts at 5:00 am with a basketball workout in the gym and ends at 10:00 pm with lights out. Every minute is accounted for and there is no wasted time. “Iron sharpens iron,” notes Oliver. “I shifted my start time to 5:00 am because I wanted to be the first one in the gym.” Oliver's routine is intentional and purposeful, and is rooted in the basic fundamentals of selfdiscipline and hard work. “I’m proud of my work ethic,” admits Allersted. “I know when I put in the work, the results will be there, and I will be the best version of myself.”

Meet a Wolverine: Baptista Muanda ’26
At fourteen years old, Baptista Muanda came to Portland, Maine, with his mother and two younger brothers from Luanda, Angola, in search of a better life. Three years later, a big step in Baptista’s journey was choosing to complete his senior year of high school at Bridgton Academy. “I wanted to be challenged academically and to play a higher level of soccer,” notes Baptista. “I decided to come here because I want to pay back my mother. The only way I can do that is to improve myself with soccer and my studies, and go to a good college.”
A semester into the journey, and Baptista’s decision to make a big change is already paying off. “Preseason was intense. It was amazing,” admits Baptista. “I knew I would improve after that. The competition was great.” Not only did Baptista find healthy competition among his Bridgton teammates, but he became part of a supportive soccer program full of individuals who understand that their destiny is tied up in the destiny of the student-athletes working next to him. Most importantly, Baptista is maintaining a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) and preparing for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). With Ivy League programs on his radar, Baptista intends to return to Bridgton for a postgraduate year. “I’m hoping to benefit from a postgraduate year for placement in an elite soccer program at an elite university,” shares Baptista. His motivation comes from family–giving back to a mother that presented this opportunity to him, and to the younger brothers who look up to him. “I want people to want to be like me,” shares Baptista. “I want to be an example for my brothers.”
Carlos Canino ’84 Shares a Message with the Class of 2026
At the beginning of the school year, Academy alumnus and Hall of Fame member, Carlos Canino, penned a letter for the incoming Class of 2026. Carlos' reflections were powerful and a message worth sharing with the broader Bridgton family.
Dear Wolverines:
Bridgton Academy is designed to prepare you—for life, for leadership, for the moment when the world stops spinning long enough to ask, "Are you ready?" And, you better be. Every early morning, every hard lesson, every moment you’re pushed outside your comfort zone–that’s preparation. It’s not just about grades or tests or college applications. It’s about grit. Discipline. Showing up even when you don’t feel like it. Learning to listen, to think critically, to lead without needing applause. That’s what Bridgton Academy is really preparing you for.
Here’s the truth most people won’t tell you about until it’s too late. Opportunity doesn’t wait around until you get your act together. It shows up when it wants–fast, loud, unapologetic. And when it does, there’s no time to wish you had studied harder, trained longer, or paid more attention. You either meet the moment, or it moves on to someone else who does.
But, if you’ve done the work–if you’ve treated Bridgton as more than just a stepping stone–then when that moment arrives, you won’t flinch. You’ll rise. Not because it’s easy, but because you’re ready. You’ve trained for this. You’ve earned it. So, take this time seriously. Treat preparation like it matters–because it does. In fact, it may be the only thing that ever truly separates those who wish from those who do. You don’t have to be perfect. Just prepared. That’s the whole point. Keep grinding. Keep growing. And when your shot comes–take it! You’ll be ready.

Leadership Conference at Hyde School
When Dean of Students Tim Atwood was planning for Bridgton Academy's involvement in the Maine Youth Leadership Day at the Hyde School in Bath, Maine, he decided to solicit volunteers from this year’s student body in lieu of having staff help him to select the student presenters. “This year’s group volunteered and displayed a strong desire to do it,” noted Atwood. “We had a good group with a range of leadership styles–vocal leaders, quiet leaders, leaders that listen, leaders from the front, leaders from the back–and those experiences came together to help younger student-athletes.” Bridgton’s involvement in the Maine Youth Leadership Day affords Wolverines the opportunity to network and speak at an event of nearly 1,000 students from all over Maine. “It was great to step out of my comfort zone for a good cause,” shared Andrew Mattia ’26. “We gave time to give advice and model leadership for kids that look up to us.”
Prior to the event, the students met to create interactive discussion scenarios to inspire rich discussion among the participants. “It reminded me of my time at Ron Burton Training Village,” noted Tomas Romero ’26. “It’s so important to put others in front of you as a leader. We shared our own stories and how we got where we are.” Their efforts to prepare and find ways to inspire discussion were intentional. “I didn’t want to go through the motions,” admitted Matthew Honekamp ’26. “I wanted to make connections. I wanted them to take something away. If it meant sharing a story, then that’s what we did.”
Joining Mattia, Honekamp, and Romero in the presentation groups were Oliver Allersted ’26, Aidan Board ’26, Jerin Keough ’26, and Windsor Muzoora ’26.
Essay Fest Sharpens College Applications
Bridgton Academy’s Essay Fest, which took place in October, was enhanced by the addition of college admissions officers. The event, led by the Academy's English faculty, Isabel Neal, Jude Lindberg, and Dan Edwards, is designed to provide students with dedicated time and expert guidance on one of the most critical components of their college applications: the personal essay. Each student had the opportunity to collaborate with peers, Bridgton faculty, and our College Counseling team during this effort.
The Academy was able to expand the event even farther this fall by inviting three guest college admission officers: Karen Fisher-Dickmann of Lynn University (FL), Rachael Tampone of Merrimack College (MA), and Dauri Torres of Miami University (OH), to also participate in the Essay Fest process.
The Class of 2026 Wolverines benefitted from a wellrounded week of workshopping their personal essays before their college application deadlines. With the time, guidance, and external perspective that Essay Fest intentionally structured for our Wolverines, each student left with compelling and authentic college application essays that were ready for prime time.

Meet a Wolverine: Jerin Keough ’26
Jerin Keough learned long ago from his father and grandfather the value of hard work while working on the family's 1,500 acre farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. “From 4:00 in the morning to midnight, my grandfather puts in long hours because you have to,” noted Keough. “The hard work of the farm has taught me what it takes to be successful.” Those lessons followed Jerin to the lacrosse field, where he developed into a solid college prospect through time and effort on a number of box and field lacrosse teams that traveled throughout Canada. The desire to play Division I lacrosse in the United States while earning a degree in agriculture became Keough's goal. The decision to attend Bridgton Academy is already a positive one for Jerin, who feels he is getting everything he's looking for out of his experience to date. “The routine and schedule allow me to focus on lacrosse and academics,” noted Keough. “It's great preparation for college.” Keough has also received significant support in the recruiting process. “The staff are supportive,” he shares. “They always have my back.” With the Bridgton routine reinforcing his strong work ethic and new positive relationships surrounding him, Jerin is holding Bridgton Academy close to his heart. “Bridgton is a school that I’m proud to be at.”

Gately Humbly Accepts Call to the Maine Ski Hall of Fame
On November 1, 2025, Mr. Peter Gately was inducted into the Maine Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame; a well deserved honor and one that our community was happy to celebrate. Peter has loved teaching others how to ski since he was in high school. “It is less about who is going to win the race…it’s about improving over a period of time,” shares Gately. Mr. Gately is credited with helping to put Bridgton Academy on the prep ski team map, racking up numerous MAISAD individual and team champions during his years as a coach. While this was a major reason for his induction, his reach went farther than the Academy. Gately's passion for skiing inspired him and fellow faculty member and coach, Mr. Bill Bearse, to start a junior program at nearby Pleasant Mountain to help the sport grow beyond the Academy. “We created a lifetime sport for a number of families,” noted Gately. “I never cut anybody. I always asked everyone if they wanted to be on the ski team.” All of the program building and championships rank Gately at the top of his profession; however, it all ranks behind the hundreds of relationships and countless memories that were created along the way.
Two of those relationships include United States Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame athlete Dan Egan ’83, and fellow Wolverine alumnus and ski teammate, Scott Doyle ’83, who both played an integral role in Coach Gately’s nomination to the Maine Ski and Snowboard Hall. Egan wrote in his nomination letter that “Peter’s ability to earn the trust of his athletes and listen to them without judgment while motivating them has created generations of skiers who have been injected with his spirit and passion for the sport.” Doyle noted in his letter that “Peter’s coaching philosophy is as much about developing character as it is about skiing technique.” It is when Gately speaks of his former students and athletes turned friends that it all becomes clear. “It puts a lot of things in perspective,” noted Mr. Gately. “The effect and impressions on people. This induction is so humbling.” Peter's humility reflects his purpose in coaching and shows the character of the man; a well deserved “call to the hall” for Mr. Peter Gately.

Bridgton Academy Food Drive Supports
Stevens Brook Elementary Students
When Bridgton Academy Director of Residential Life Kate Tucker heard that the local Stevens Brook Elementary School Food Closet was running low, she sensed an opportunity for Bridgton Academy to get involved to help out. “The school pantry was low, there was clearly a need this year,” noted Tucker. Dean of Students Tim Atwood reached out to Stevens Brook staff and the "Bridgton Academy Thanksgiving Food Drive" was born. “When you give people the opportunity to do something good, they will do it,” noted Atwood. “People want to help.” Athletic Director Aaron Izaryk saw a great opportunity for a full community event, and announced to the students that the staff would match whatever donations they made. The results were a total of nearly 500 food items donated to the Stevens Brook Elementary Food Closet prior to the week of Thanksgiving.
The success of the project was particularly special because of the full community involvement. “It was a true team effort,” shared Atwood. Incentives of a relaxed dress code, abbreviated study halls, and a wing night prepared by the culinary staff were established. Staff stepped up to offer extra van trips to town for students to purchase food items and the food drive became a part of everyday conversation. “Our students were always asking how far along we were,” noted Izaryk. “It mattered to them.” The fact that service matters at Bridgton Academy has made efforts like these a common occurrence at the Academy. “Something comes up every year,” noted Tucker. “And every year Bridgton meets the moment.”
Meet a Wolverine: Cheick Sylla ’26 and Nabi Diakite ’26
Cheickna (Cheick) Sylla ’26 (left) and Nabiyoulahi (Nabi) Diakite ’26 (right) both returned to Bridgton Academy this fall to complete a postgraduate year. Hailing from Bamako, Mali, these young men arrived in North Bridgton in the fall of 2024 with the plan and desire to play college basketball in the United States. The respect and enthusiasm both Cheick and Nabi feel for Bridgton Academy are genuine; they harbor a strong appreciation for a community that welcomed them last year and was patient as they both worked through language barriers in the classroom and on the court. “French is our native language,” noted Nabi. “We could only say 'Hi, how are you?' when we first came.” Cheick admitted that another year with both English and math would help him be more college ready. “I am not quite ready for college,” he shared. “I need to work on speaking English and doing better in math so I can also do technology in college.” The effort by the Bridgton staff to foster such significant growth with speaking English was a major factor in these two student-athletes choosing to return to Bridgton for another year. The advice from their mothers, like their sons, is similar, but subtly different. “I FaceTime with mom every day and every day she says the same thing,” shares Nabi. “Be a good human, be a good student, stay focused, keep praying.” Though similar, the advice from Cheick’s mom is also very direct. “Everyday I talk to my family,” notes Cheick. “Mom says to keep playing hard, get your work done, be humble, and don’t do anything stupid.” The words of experience serve as motivation for two young men looking to deliver on the promise to themselves to create better opportunities for a bright future ahead.
Getting to Know Rocco Sandini ’26
What's your name, where are you from, and what dorm do you live in?
My name is Rocco-Justice Sandini. I’m from Burnaby, British Columbia, and I live in Jillson Hall.
What activities are you participating in here at Bridgton?
I play on two sports teams here at Bridgton Academy: lacrosse and hockey. Both are a great group of fellows. Everyone has different goals. Most of the lacrosse guys want to go play NCAA, and the hockey guys would like to get recruited to the junior leagues to get to the next level.
How did you first hear about Bridgton Academy?
I was originally planning to go to school in Nevada, but didn’t end up going there. My coach reached out to a couple of prep schools, and Bridgton felt like home. So, I chose Bridgton.
What was it like getting adjusted to being on the East Coast?
It was a big difference being away from my family on the opposite side the continent, but, I got used to it after the first week or two.
What is one of your favorite things about Bridgton so far?
I’d say it's the community. Everyone always shows up for each other, especially at the sports games.
What has been one of the more difficult things you’ve had to deal with since arriving on campus?
One of the more difficult things about being at Bridgton is probably not having your parents right here. You’re always used to having them around. Even with the little things, like I was sick a couple weeks ago and I just, I don’t know, I missed my mom.
What are some of your goals at Bridgton Academy?
Some of my goals here at Bridgton are to get my grades up, and hopefully play NCAA Division I lacrosse.
How are you doing with the progress towards those goals?
The competition here is better, more fast paced. I’m doing pretty well, I've put on 25 pounds since being here, and getting bigger was one of my goals.
What position do you play in lacrosse?
I play D-Pole and Longstick Midy.
Can you describe your academic experience at Bridgton so far?
My academic experience at Bridgton has been going very well. I enjoy working with all my teachers. Academics are a big part of Bridgton, and I wouldn’t change it.
Describe the energy here on campus of you and your fellow classmates.
Here at Bridgton, everyone is kind and friendly towards each other. We are all away from home and going through the same thing.
What’s your favorite experience or memory so far?
My favorite part of Bridgton so far is always having lacrosse practice after class.
What do you do with your free time?
In my free time here at Bridgton, I usually either hang out with a couple buddies, or I go to the gym to workout.
Who is your role model and why?
My parents are my role models because of how much they sacrificed for me growing up, and still sacrifice to this day. I’m very lucky to have both of them in my life.
What do you want to do after you graduate from Bridgton?
After graduating from Bridgton Academy and from college, I’d like to become a police officer or a fireman.
What are some skills that you have learned?
I’ve learned to be more independent at the Academy and how to take care of myself.
What will you miss about Bridgton when it’s all said and done?
If I’m going to be honest, I’m going to miss Study Hall. As bad as it sounds, it’s very helpful.
What recommendation would you give to an incoming student?
I would recommend that incoming students always be kind and polite to others. Everyone is new here. Everyone has the same struggles and are going through this without their family. Even though we all come from different places and backgrounds, we can all kind of get adjusted together.

Getting to Know Khai Francis ’26
What's your name, where are you from, and what dorm do you live in?
My name is Khai Francis. I'm from Randolph, Massachusetts, and I live in Walker Hall.
What activities are you participating in here at Bridgton?
I play on the basketball team.
How did you first hear about Bridgton Academy?
I first learned about Bridgton Academy through an old AAU coach. My coach knew a student who went here, so, through those connections, I ended up finding out about Bridgton.
What was it like getting adjusted to being here? Honestly, I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. Being 3.5 hours from home, I thought it would be a lot more difficult than it ended up being. The people here—my teammates, my coaching staff, and all of my teachers—just made it a really easy adjustment.
What is one of your favorite things about Bridgton so far?
I probably couldn't pick one thing that I love about BA the most. My favorite things are probably the people
and, kind of a weird one that I don't think most people think about, is being so secluded. I think it's just a great opportunity. There's not any distractions here, so you really just have to lock in and work on your craft. I think it's just a great experience.
What has been one of the more difficult things you’ve had to deal with since arriving on campus? One of the toughest things to adjust to is being away from my sisters and my parents. They are my core support system, so things like having hard games or just any little bumps in the road, or any little minor inconvenience, I would usually have them there. So, I'm learning to work through that on my own while still having them there at a distance.
What were some of your goals coming to Bridgton Academy and how are you progressing towards those goals?
I want to prove to college coaches that I am able to play at the high level that I know I can. Coming here, I had a lot to prove. Proving that I can play at the highest level, and showing coaches that I can have the same performance here that I had where I was coming from, were important things for me to show. As far as my progression towards those goals, I think I started off a little rocky, just adjusting and finding my place on the team, and how I was going to contribute to helping my team win. Now that I've found that, I'm doing pretty well.
Can you describe your academic experience at Bridgton so far?
Academics were a big reason why I came here, because the school I came from didn't have the academic rigor that I wanted heading into college. So, I think taking this extra year at BA, the academic rigor has been more than I could possibly ask for. I think it will continue to help me adjust for when I go to college next year.
Describe the energy here on campus of you and your fellow classmates.
I think the energy is really great. We're in an area of our own and we're all here together. It really helps bring a certain level of brotherhood and energy that some other prep schools just don't have. I really get along with everybody I'm interacting with. Everybody says "Hi" when you walk by on campus and it's always an uplifting mood—even when I'm having a bad day. Yesterday, I had a not so great game, and at halftime, I was really down on myself. My coaches, my teammates, and everybody around me were immediately picking me up. They all came to give me pats on the back and words of encouragement. Some even pulled me aside and talked to me.
I feel like that's not only the people on my team, but everybody around here at BA. When we have home games, the crowd is always amazing. You can miss a shot and the crowd will still cheer for you. It's just a very strong bond and love.
What’s your favorite memory so far?
I would have to say the home basketball games. Honestly, it's such a different environment to play in. It's something unlike anything I've ever played in before, with the crowd, the chants, the energy. Every time it's a great experience.
What do you do with your free time?
In my free time, my teammates and I like to go down to Portland and try new food options. Hopefully, after this season, I will get some skiing in while there's still some snow. I like to try to do new things. I picked up golfing in the first semester. I'm using the access that I have while I'm here to find new hobbies.
Who is your role model and why?
I would say big role models for me are my parents. They both went through a lot of rough patches, but they still made a way to have successful lives and successful careers. They're big role models for me and my sisters, they have been able to provide us with anything we could ever ask for. I'm here today because of them. They've never let me down. They've always figured out
a way, no matter what the stakes are in front of them.
What do you want to do after you graduate from Bridgton?
After graduation, I want to go to college and play at the collegiate level for a while. After that, if things go great for me, maybe I will play overseas and try to have a professional career. Otherwise, I want to work at the NBA in a front office for a team and still have basketball be a part of my life.
What are some skills that you have learned at the Academy?
A skill that I've picked up at Bridgton that I know will help me in the future is how to advocate for myself. I've been pushed a lot here to advocate for myself and talk to teachers, talk to coaches, and have those conversations that, before, I may not have had, or they were kind of brought to me. Also my studying habits; having an hour and a half to study every day has honestly helped me to have great study habits.
What will you miss about Bridgton when it’s all said and done?
Something I will miss from BA is the gym access. Being able to go to the gym whenever I need to, whether it's to clear my head before I go to sleep or early in the morning before I have class, has been great.

Meet a Wolverine: Andrew Mattia ’26
Enrolling last year at Bridgton Academy as a high school senior provided a new opportunity for Andrew Mattia; an opportunity to be challenged academically, and pushed to be the best student he could possibly be. “Bridgton Academy gave me an opportunity I am forever grateful for.” Andrew capitalized on that opportunity and was the valedictorian for the Bridgton Academy Class of 2025. When he and his family considered the next step, they didn’t have to look for long; they decided the best decision for Andrew was to return to Bridgton Academy for a postgraduate year with the Class of 2026. When asked what he was going to do for an encore after being valedictorian, Andrew simply answered, “I’m going to be valedictorian again.” Beyond the accomplishments, however, there is a deeper sense of purpose for Andrew. “Last year at Bridgton taught me discipline,” he noted. “The independence allowed me to see my academic challenges and strengths.” This growing awareness of self extends to the soccer field, where he intends for college soccer to be part of his plans, but not at the expense of academic success. “I want to be able to play soccer at a good school with good academics,” shared Andrew. Bridgton is the best next step for him to achieve that goal. Healing from a significant knee injury, Andrew is “letting the injury fuel his fire” and he feels confident in stepping up to be a leader on this year's squad. “I learned a lot from my teammates last year,” noted Andrew. “They are brothers for life.”
What recommendation would you give to an incoming student?
Don't take this experience for granted. I'm almost done with my season. I have a few weeks left and it's all gone by in the blink of an eye. We're already in the second semester. Really take the time and use all the resources here, from Mrs. Gleason, to Coach West, to Coach Izaryk, there's just so many different resources and opportunities while you're at BA. If there's something you were interested in before coming here, go try it. Experience new things. Go out, talk to guys, don't just sit in your room. Learn new things, go do new things. Bridgton is such a special experience and I think you should just take full advantage of it.

Recognizing Donations From 7/1/2024 – 12/31/2025
Dear Bridgton Academy Community,
We are excited to recognize and honor our donor family in the following pages of the Academy’s Annual Report on Giving. This year’s report encompasses all donors who made gifts between 7/1/202412/31/2025. This year-and-a-half was a busy fundraising period for the Academy as we worked to complete the Memorial Gymnasium floor project and also launched our new Wolverine Opportunity Scholarship Fund. With many members of the Wolverine family stepping up to support both projects, we have together created powerful giving momentum for Bridgton Academy, helping to open doors to lifechanging opportunities for students of the future.
After two decades working in fundraising and engagement for the Academy, I have developed a short set of truths that guide me every day in my work. Fundamentally, for me, it boils down to the very true fact that Bridgton Academy is a special place, working on a unique and dedicated mission that truly makes a difference. How do I know it makes a difference? Because I am a part of a staff community that sees this difference every day in ways both large and small, and, because I have the opportunity to hear your stories day in and day out on the difference that Bridgton Academy made for you.
Over the years, I have heard many incredible stories. Some of my favorites are told by older folks who get a twinkle in their eyes recalling some shenanigans that took place over half a century ago. There are stories that are happy and sad, joyful and tearful. There are many Bridgton stories that illustrate changing times in our history. I recall speaking with an alumnus, who has now passed, who vividly recalled listening to the attack on Pearl Harbor on the radio in the common room of Cleaves Hall. This alumnus shared his recollections of young men running up the stairs to pack their bags and leaving that afternoon to drive to their local
recruitment offices. Stories of hitchhiking, of protests, of changing hairstyles, cars, and music. When a school has endured for 218 years, that is a family in and of itself—our Bridgton Academy family.
I see the positive difference in the young men who come to Bridgton Academy, young men who leave ready to be solid citizens, caring individuals, and difference makers. As a mother of a teenage boy myself, I see in the Bridgton boys young men who I hope my son can grow to emulate. Young men who look you in the eye, ask how you are, and offer to lend a helping hand. These are the Wolverines that are grown here in North Bridgton.
Giving to a cause can be hard in today’s day and age. Life is expensive, the priorities out there are many, and the need is great. That said, from someone who has the opportunity every day to witness the Bridgton story, I can whole-heartedly assure you that your support matters here. You make a difference. You make a positive impact. And you create a community where young men have the opportunity and safe space to thrive, learning to teach others to thrive in turn.
Thank you for making a real difference for the Wolverines of today and tomorrow.

Whit Lesure Court Donor Recognition
During Homecoming Weekend 2025, Bridgton Academy proudly unveiled the newly dedicated Whit Lesure Court, recognizing Coach Lesure's commitment, mentorship, and dedication to the mission and work of Bridgton Academy. It was a truly special day in the Memorial Gymnasium as friends, alumni, staff members, and family gathered to celebrate the completion of this historic project and the recognition of Coach Whit Lesure.
With the sudden passing of Coach Lesure earlier this winter, the Academy feels grateful to have had this moment of celebration and recognition with Whit, who gave so much of himself to the mission and efforts of Bridgton Academy. During his court dedication speech, Whit shared,
“Fundamentally, BA is about the moment, the now, and the future. The next play in sport vernacular. The substance is the guys and the brotherhood that our community has the opportunity to experience…No one has been luckier than I to coach the players that have made up the 28-years of my time…We have a short year to truly become a team. It won’t be easy; it shouldn’t be easy. The fun part, the challenge, is the opportunity to do it. Their journey, our season, my lifetime all in with them is the greatest reward.”
After opening its doors in 1959, the Memorial Gymnasium hosted over 60 years of Bridgton Academy studentathletes on its original gym floor. Through the support of many generous donors, the Academy was proud to install a new, modernized court floor in 2025. This extensive project, including a partnership gift from Kevin Hancock and Hancock Lumber Company, honors the past, modernizes the present, and paves the way for future excellence in Bridgton athletics. We are incredibly proud that our new Whit Lesure Court stands as a tribute to a beloved faculty member who left a legacy that extends far beyond Wolverine Basketball.

I arrived at Bridgton Academy as a properly chastised under-performing "average" student, feeling overburdened with the "he has potential" tag line. The frequent oneon-one guidance and encouraged self-discipline found at Bridgton, provided just the right environment for me to finally prove to myself that I could do the work if I wanted to. I give to BA because BA gave to me and because there remains no shortage of high school graduates who deserve the opportunity to discover they need not be "average."
