EDITOR’S LETTER

Storied Past, Solid Future We have another year in our rearview mirror, which means we have another year of experience under our belt, helping us to better prepare for our future! Of course, we don’t just have more experience, we have another chapter in our story, and perhaps more stories, too! Humans have been drawn to stories since the beginning of existence. Stories are what sell products. Stories have led the gift industry through year after year of success and stories are what’s going to see us well into the future. I once heard a retailer call herself a storyteller because she believed that was her biggest sales tool — telling the stories of the products to consumers. And she’s not wrong. As we sit on the precipice of a brand-new year of challenges, story is what is going to give us a solid future, because consumers — more than ever — are going to be looking to purchase a story and not just a product. In December, Amanda and I hosted GDA’s annual trend webinar and “storied” products with history, and those that feel well-made or passed down surfaced as a core theme for 2026. As you try to decipher which products to invest in, remember that consumers are seeking products that say something and that mean something. The budget-conscious consumer is a discerning one, and a product that feels flimsy, lackluster or like it might have a short life isn’t going to appeal to their precious dollar. On the other hand, a product that gives customers a chance to be something, support something or express something will. Several marketing blogs, including DealHub, wrote about the power of storytelling in “I once heard a retailer call herself a storyteller because 2025 to help brands promote themselves in a challenging economy. she believed that was her “Storytelling transforms sales by leveraging biggest sales tool … And emotion to bring products to life and foster she’s not wrong.” connections that make a difference,” post author Nicole Epstein wrote. “Stories have the power to connect and unite us. They showcase a solution in action and illustrate its problem-solving capabilities. Stories do more than educate — they tap into emotions that influence purchasing decisions.” As we head into 2026 and who-knows-what types of hurdles and challenges, let’s rely on the tool that has brought us this far: stories! Tell the story of your products, so that customers can see them as a part of their own story, and curate an aspirational display that helps them envision the type of person they could be. It’s the one tried-and-true tactic that will lead us to a solid future.

A Whisper of White: Pantone Picks ‘Cloud Dancer’ for 2026 In its search for the most appropriate color of the year for 2026, Pantone opted for a hue that would bring calm to a frenetic society and quiet the mind. It chose white. Cloud Dancer (Pantone 11-4201) is “a billowy, balanced white imbued with a feeling of serenity,” the global color authority announced in December. It likened the color to a blank canvas and the opportunity for a fresh start. “At this time of transformation, when we are reimagining our future and our place in the world, Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a discrete hue offering a promise of clarity,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The cacophony that surrounds us has become overwhelming, making it harder to hear the voices of our inner selves. A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, described Cloud Dancer as “an airy white hue that exemplifies our search for balance between our digital future and our primal need for human connection.” In a new creative initiative, Pantone will spotlight artists across all areas of design, from graphics to fashion, who create their own interpretation of the Pantone Color throughout the year. For the first iteration of the project, Pantone is collaborating with Emiliano Ponzi, an illustrator, visual artist and author, to create a limited-edition tote bag that showcases Cloud Dancer through his distinctive style.

Color Choice Sparks Debate

No sooner had Pantone announced its Color of the Year pick for 2026 than the debate and commentary began on the worthiness of its choice. Some observers liked it, and some did not. Some debated whether it was an actual color or not. Online and in a printed Styles section, New York Times 2 4 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

reporters were split: Some embraced the “blank slate” nature of the shade, while others considered it bland and “flavorless.” A few found tie-ins to fashion. Similar discussions played out on Reddit and Canadian media outlet CBC, among others. Pantone President Sky Kelley acknowledged the discourse. “Now, about those online comments …” she said in her remarks at the launch event. “White is indeed a color.” “We knew people would have emotions about this color,” she continued. “But it sparks a conversation, a conversation about color that everyone can participate in. At Pantone, we don’t dictate that conversation, we facilitate it.” Gifts & Decorative Accessories’ sister publication Home Accents Today spoke to several trend ambassadors regarding their opinions on the color. “I was quite underwhelmed by the selection of Cloud Dancer,” said color expert Patti Carpenter of Carpenter & Co. “It feels tone deaf at this time of turmoil, chaos and uncertainty. I believe a color that represents optimism and hope would have served them better. I would have loved to see a color that lifts our spirits and reconnects us. It feels like a missed opportunity.” Others noted that as a neutral shade, Cloud Dancer could work with other neutrals, contrast with jewel tones and evolve in its expression over the course of the year. “Setting aside Cloud Dancer’s obvious versatility and soothing tenor, it speaks to the dominant role neutrals will play in the coming years,” said SpringBoard Futures founder Tom Mirabile. Trend Curve founder Michelle Lamb emphasized the “relationship between color and neutrals is recalibrating.” “Throughout 2026, Cloud Dancer will allow consumers to pivot as their feelings are clarified,” Lamb said. “If their mood grows optimistic, Cloud Dancer becomes a foundation for energetic hues or pastels. If things look gloomier, this choice is equally able to enhance mid-tones or deeps. If clarification is not possible, it will make an excellent vehicle for freshening a completely neutral palette.”

family to ensure their father’s legacy endures with recognized themes and aesthetics iconic to the brand while simultaneously designing new collections focused on introducing those iconic tear-drop eyes to a larger, more diverse consumer base globally.” The partnership first started back in 1978, when Founder and CEO of Enesco Imports Gene Freedman discovered Samuel Butcher’s art and encouraged him to turn his drawings into porcelain figurines. In 2005, Precious Moments moved development and distribution in-house and they have operated independently for the last 20 years. According to a release, both Enesco and Precious Moments see this partnership as a “homecoming.” “This partnership represents an important moment for Precious Moments, one that feels like a reunion,” said Don Butcher, president of Precious Moments, Inc. and son of the company’s founder. “Enesco played a defining role in building this brand alongside my father, and working with Michael and the Enesco team over the past several months has reaffirmed the strength and potential of that relationship. Pinterest Predicts ‘Comfort and Authenticity’ for 2026 In 2026, social media site Pinterest predicts that consumers will seek comfort, authenticity and optimism to quiet the constant noise of the world and social media. After conducting a study, Pinterest summarized its findings by defining eight key trends: • Emotional Comfort and Belonging: Nostalgia is evolving into “reclamation,” fusing the past with the present to brace for a future unknown. • FunHaus: Circus-inspired home décor will be on the rise thanks to boomers and millennials. The trend will focus on bold stripes, sculptural silhouettes and just a wink of clownish charm. • Curating, Not Copying: In a shift from past norms, people in 2026 will not consider trends as cultural mandates, but rather opportunities for identity curation and personal expression. • Afrohemian Decor: “African boho living room” and “Afro chic home decor” are trending up on Pinterest. Expect colorful Nigerian textiles and Ethiopian wall art alongside handwoven baskets and natural fiber rugs to

be in demand. Neo Deco: The Art Deco trend is getting a modern twist that is more shiny, sleek and tuned to 2026. After years of heavy minimalism, Gen X and millennials are bringing this retro aesthetic back with crisp chevrons, fan arches and other geometric hits, all edged in chrome or brass. • Grounded Optimism: People of all generations are seeking a positive outlook in the present moment by using creative and imaginative escapism to cope with burnout and uncertainty about the long-term future. • Cool Blue: Gen Z and millennials are bringing a subzero sophistication to absolutely everything in 2026 including glacier-inspired home accessories. • Extra Celestial: Gen Z and millennials are going intergalactic. Think holographic home accents and cosmic silhouettes straight out of a sci-fi movie. Overall, the Pinterest study predicts the takeaway for design in 2026 will be bold, nostalgic, imperfect and deeply human. •

what Oprah’s Favs say about 2026 product trends Oprah's Favorite Things list for 2025 is putting puffy fashion accessories, comfortable home accents and apparel, delicious flavors and snuggly kids' gifts at the top of consumers' minds. Not only did the list, which featured 112 items, put several wellknown gift industry vendors in the spotlight, but it also highlighted a handful of trends that continue to gain popularity. Retailers should display any themed items prominently in their store, as customers will likely have them top of mind as they shop.

Popular Puffs

Right from the start, Oprah Winfrey's annual holiday list calls attention to the rise of puffy vests, jackets and other accessories with a puffy-style "O" decorating the 2025 list logo. A burgeoning trend in 2024, puffy apparel and accessories have gained even more popularity, especially as Y2K trends continue to rise. Featured on the list are a cropped puffer jacket, "puffertherm" boots, puffy vest for dogs, and a quilt-textured tote.

Charming Charms

Featured front and center in a moving graphic, bag charms — specifically the Malibu Sugar bag charm — made a splash on the list, giving credence to the charm craze. Charms have been trending up in the fashion and giftable categories for the better part of a year, and consumers have been buying them up. From charm bracelets and necklaces to bag charms and even shoe charms, accessories that add personality to jewelry and more will continue to be a big trend that retailers should keep an eye on.

Cozy Vibes

Known for her love of cozy gifts, Winfrey continues to propel the "casual comfort" trend by putting comfortable apparel, soft home accents and snuggly products in the spotlight. For 2025, Softies' Waffle Marshmallow V-Neck Luxe Lounge Set and DreamPlush Double Zip Jacket caught her attention. Other featured cozy accessories — included in its own "Cozy" category — include a plush robe, hooded scarf, a weighted blanket and a "tea library." The importance of self-care even extended to the kids' gifts section, where Bathorium Little Charlie My First Bath Ritual Gift Set highlights the importance of starting relaxing habits early.

Dinos Still Rule

Warmies was once again featured on the legendary list, this time for its Dino Collection, helping to fuel the continued craze for all things dinosaurs for kids' gifts. Featuring the Pterodactyl, Velociraptor, Green Dino, Purple Long Neck and Triceratops, the collection was called a group of "bedtime heroes" by Winfrey's list. Other whimsical picks include an interactive animated fairy tale and "The Big Book for Little Artists."

Comforting Flavors

Showcasing everything from delicious chocolate to luxury olive oil, Winfrey's list once again highlights some of the year's top tantalizing gourmet gifts. Of note are the included cocoa bombs by Kate Weiser, which look like adorable snowmen. And while the list features other sweet confections, like a box of chocolates and a canister of licorice, spicy condiments like Springs Fireplace Hot Sauce and savory meal helpers like a pasta sampler box show how Winfrey and general consumers alike are being drawn to gifts that make cooking at home easier and tastier. 4 0 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

*play by Pamela Brill Thirty years in the toy industry might seem like a lifetime, but for Ann Kienzle, the value of those moments is immeasurable. The owner of five Chicagoland *play toy stores has seen it all over the course of her career — a pandemic, tariff wars, a roller coaster economy — and yet she remains committed. Kienzle owes it all to her love of play and an unrelenting desire to share that passion with the greater Chicago community. It all started in 1996 when Kienzle went to work for Brio after graduating college. Managing territory sales in Los Angeles was followed by a brief stint as an independent sales rep before she moved back to Chicago to start a consulting business in 2006. Kienzle’s work had taken her across the country to specialty toy shops, giving her a glimpse into the inner workings of independent retailing. “I really wanted to take everything I’d seen and learned over the years and turn it into an amazing shop in my own burgeoning neighborhood,” she said. “I wanted to combine a clean, modern, urban feel with classic toys and cool books, and merchandise it all in a way that made everyone want to explore the shop.” In 2010, Kienzle turned her fantasy into a reality and opened the first *play in Chicago’s Logan Square. Even with years of experience under her belt, she gave herself time to adjust to her new role as a retailer and decide how best to appeal to her growing customer base. She began hosting story times, music classes and other special events that allowed kids and their parents to connect with one another. “The goal was always for the shop to become a community resource … to become a place that children would remember as their ‘neighborhood toy shop’ when they grew up,” she explained. With the success of her flagship store came the opportunity to grow the *play enterprise. While expansion was never part of Kienzle’s original plans, she has since rolled out four additional Chicagoland stores over the past 15 years. Kienzle eschewed the cookie-cutter approach to store design and instead tailored merchandise to the personalities of each neighborhood. “Our West Loop location is home to an amazing restaurant scene, so I’ve brought in a lot of fun ‘foodie’ toys, cookbooks and other extras,” she said. “Chicago is a very diverse city, so I’ve always focused on having books and playthings that represent all races, religions and cultures.” Curated merchandise is not only evident on store shelves, but in the handpicked gift boxes that Kienzle and her staff fill based on special occasion and price point. “We throw in a silly topper and wrap it to the nines,” she said. “I think the key is reading between the lines of their interests.” For instance, a Swiftie fan might receive a sing-along microphone, sequin tutu, braceletmaking kit and a copy of “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.” To further its commitment to surrounding communities, *play donated toys to Hello, Baby, a play space and family resource center on Chicago’s south side; Comer Children’s Hospital and Care for Real over the holidays. “Children need access to books and playthings year-round, not just during the holidays,” said Kienzle of her ongoing partnerships. The start of a new year marks an opportunity for Kienzle to catch her breath and take stock of all she has accomplished so far. She plans to learn more about *play’s Hyde Park neighborhood and further refine her best practices for running five stores. “Every few years, it’s good to get back to basics,” she mused. “I think 2026 will be that for *play.”

52 Display Tips for 2026 by Lenise Willis A fresh year is here and so begins (or continues) the planning and strategizing for another 12 successful months. You have likely already pulled your POS data and made notes about what to stock for 2026 and which showrooms to visit at the upcoming winter shows. But have you already planned your visual merchandising themes and window displays, too? Having your display themes planned ahead of time will help guide your sourcing at markets and keep you on target. To help inspire you and get the creative juices flowing, I’ve gathered 52 cool display themes and designs. This year, I was inspired by several DIY videos on Instagram and the crafting community for a few clever ideas that are both visually appealing and cost effective. I also, once again, had help from some amazing showroom designers and industry friends, who shared their thoughts and images, as well. Special thanks to Angela Schmook from Road Runners, who shared dozens of store images she’s encountered throughout the past year, as well as the teams at Two’s Company, Accent Décor and Creative Co-Op who shared a few images and bits of wisdom. A few themes you’ll notice throughout the feature include the popularity of natural materials and earthy colors, bows, nostalgic nods and crafting techniques like embroidery and crochet. Flip through and see if any of the ideas work for your store.

HYDRANGEA HI GHL I GHT

The drama! The romance! This display steals the spotlight with the multiple out-of-this-world arrangements of faux hydrangeas. The florals are eye-catching and guide the eye from top to bottom in this display by Two’s Company. Floral accents are an excellent way to draw the eye to a display or guide them throughout a display. (Photo by Two’s Company)

Stop passersby in their tracks with a dramatic entrance, like this creative one by Urban Cottage in Hamilton, Bermuda. The rustic ladders and three collections of woven baskets not only draw attention to the store but frame the entrance to give it a larger presence on the street. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

3

TANGL ED TEASER

Urban Cottage in Hamilton, Bermuda created a show-stopping display using ordinary wire hangers. The tangled “mess” is intriguing and begs customers to take a closer look. Getting potential shoppers to stop and take an interest is half the battle! The hangers are also neutral enough that they fade into the background and let the products have the spotlight. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

4

S P R I N G M IX

The wide variety of florals, each used sparingly and strategically, adds visual interest to this springtime display of candles, lotions and more. What could have been an otherwise boring shelving unit is now a point of interest and intrigue. The florals also hint at some of the fragrance notes in the products. LOVE L ETTERS

Though this display was created in honor of Stationery Store Day, it’s a cute idea as a Valentine’s Day window, too. The decorations around the window resemble an international envelope and the construction-paper signs look like little stamps. With the addition of a few heart-shaped valentines, the display could be a great reminder to mail a letter and gift to loved ones. (Photo by @paperkiteshop on Instagram)

6

CR A F TE R S A T H E A RT

Becky Tyre from @retaildetails found this creative display and used it for an interactive post on Instagram. We’ve copied a snippet of the post here to share this crafty idea: Threading hearts onto vintage tennis (or badminton) rackets. This idea gets bonus points since it also taps into the crafting community and increased popularity of hobbies like knitting and crocheting. (Photo by @retaildetails on Instagram)

DI FFERENT DI VI DERS

The scalloped edges on the shelves in this Two’s Company display helps to visually separate each row of products on the shelves. It’s a visually pleasing way to break up something that could get monotonous, like a bookshelf with lots of rows of products. (Photo by Two’s Company)

B U Z Z I N G WIT H IN T E REST

This display at Pecan Row in Waynesboro, Ga., is filled from top to bottom, but the cherry on top is the adorable bumble bee paper lanterns and woven beehives hanging above. Not only are the bees cute, but they help to break up the very neat, organized and “square” nature of the products below. (Photo by @pecanrow on Instagram)

THREE’S A STATEMENT

Usually, we talk about the rule of threes when stacking products or lining them on shelves, but, here, the technique has been used to create an enticing jewelry vignette with three display fixtures. The store display from a Sandals Resort in Barbados creates a large visual interest for the small items so they don’t go unnoticed. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

10

F I L L ’ER UP

Using large ordinary items, like a bathtub, is a fun way to bring the unexpected into your store. The rubber boots being used as vases and the suspended watering cans are even more surprising and are a nice touch. Unusual props or seemingly misplaced items are a great way to draw attention. (Photo by @soapandwaternewport on Instagram)

11

GRAPHI C ART

Framing a large selection of graphic T-shirts is an easy way to display all of the designs you have available in a neat and tidy way. Plus, the “framed” T-shirts almost look like an art installation, which adds pops of color and visual interest to the store. This display at the Sandals Resort in Barbados is great because it’s condensed and staggered, keeping the display from taking over too much of the store. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

12

E CH O OF A N ERA

Retro is in, and so is this stylish window display at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. The display is part of a larger installation of different decades and iconic Saturday Night Live sketches. Though you might not replicate an SNL display, this is a great example of choosing a color (yellow in this case) and using it to bring a display together. A yellow spotlight is a nice finishing detail. In general, throwback themes are always fun to do, too. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

13

A NATURAL FI T

Displaying products with — or on — themed elements, like botanicals, oyster shells or even a lifebuoy, helps to bring the spirit of a vignette together and tell a whole story. Here, the white-and-blue buoy also offers a nice contrasting backdrop that sets the woven handbag apart from the other similarly colored items. (Photo by Two’s Company)

14

I M PACT FUL SIZE

Use oversized items to call attention to a display. This window at Nossa in Chania, Crete uses a larger-than-life faux rose bush to not only draw attention but also direct your eye from the bottom of the display where the handbags are sitting to the top of the model and her fashionable hat. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

15

BRAI N BREAK

Though bright colors easily draw attention, neutral colors and monochromatic scenes do something even better — they give your brain a break. Simple, clean displays, like this one at 9th St. Vintage in New York City, are welcome sights because they’re calming and deviate from everyday chaos. They also allow the brain to pick up on other details, like texture and shading, which means customers can focus even more on the specifics of products. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

16

MOV E IN

Furniture pieces make for great window display props because they’re large scale, are recognizable and feel homey. Customers can picture the products on their own dinner table or nightstand. The vintage dresser in this Italian store window adds both style and function to the jewelry and apparel display. It also gives a larger presence to the smaller jewelry items on it. If you’re used to propping open the doors to your store, then why not decorate them? Decorating the inside of your doors and then propping them open is a great way to artfully frame your store entrance and then easily pack it away at the end of the day — simply by closing them! The doors at Handmade the Brand in San Juan, Puerto Rico, have rich green faux botanicals and cute woven pig door stops to spruce up the entrance. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

18

W I N D OWS T H A T POP…OUT

The frame of floral garland around this store window gives it a three-dimensional flair that invades potential shoppers’ space and catches their attention. The faux florals also work as a frame for the products displayed in the window and draw your eye into the store. This pretty-in-pink display at Mure + Grand in Little Italy, New York City was perfect for Valentine’s Day. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

19

STACK I T UP

Have fun when merchandising and challenge yourself to try something new. Customers will appreciate a surprise, like this stacked display by Creative Co-Op. To replicate, gather statements of eclectic items with a shared theme and stack them on tables. (Photo and tip by Creative Co-Op)

20

O P E N E N D ED

Ensure your display props highlight the products, but don’t lead customers’ eyes in the wrong direction, especially when it comes to window designs. The collage-style roses at Jo Malone in Tampa, Fla., nicely frame the window, but without closing it off. The frame only covers three sides of the window and leaves the fourth side open, which leads the eye right to the front door. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

They say anything can be art, which is good news for store owners! If you’re looking to spruce up your store, why not use some of your products to create visual interest? Hats (and baskets) are great for creating an interesting wall display that’s lightweight and easy to hang. This cluster of hats is both pleasing to the eye and encourages customers to touch and try on the different hats. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

22

I N S UM M A RY

Help lots of small items stand out by adding a strong, single focus, like the bright yellow duck outline in this window display. While the long lines of ducks might look monotonous, the single drawing of the duck is easier to focus on, plus it summarizes the display behind it. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

23

CAL L ATTENTI ON

A great idea for Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, hang retro landline phones in the window with a message reminding customers to call their loved one. The phones add a pop of color in the window and also feel nostalgic. The clever reminder is the finishing touch, as it literally “speaks” to passersby. It’ll also remind them they likely should buy a gift, too, for the holiday. (Photo by @jackswestend on Instagram)

While oversized objects capture attention, so do miniature items! Scale has been flipped on its head in this Estee Lauder display, which uses a mini beach set-up and luggage bags to paint the picture of a summer vacation. It helps customers to make the connection between preparing for an upcoming trip and taking care of their skin during and after travel. Plus, it’s just adorable! (Photo by Angela Schmook)

What could have been a boring, ordinary clothing rack and shelves is a visual interest thanks to this clever idea of using thick nautical rope to hold the hangers. L A Y ERS OF H UM OR

This window display at a Bermuda storefront uses multiple layers of decorations to add a pleasing element of dimension, as well as humor to appeal to potential shoppers. The colorful drawings around the window help to set the scene for the story inside, and the inflatable tube, snorkel and tied-up T-shirt finish the beach theme with a funny twist. Making a person chuckle is a great way to stop them in their tracks and get them to stay for a while. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

27

A FUTURE SO BRI GHT

Sunglasses are the star of this wall display at a department store. Instead of placing the sunglasses on a spinner, each style has its own colorful shelf, adding lots of perceived value. The shades feel more upscale and important because they’ve been given so much display space. The different colors at the end of each shelf keeps the wall from looking too boring or repetitive. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

Never underestimate a good color story. We love how the cool, beachy turquoise and white hues are offset by the warm-colored woven basket and trunk in this vignette in Antigua. This little Jellycat cat is ready to learn! Plush pals aren’t just good for sales, they’re good for display props, too. Whether it’s a plush puppy hanging out in a pet-gift display or a more personified scene like a stuffed bear reading a book, plush toys help to add a playful tone to your display. (Photo by @stylish_living_apex on Instagram)

31

CONVERSATI ON STARTERS

Adding a message to a window display makes potential shoppers feel like they’re being engaged in a conversation, making it more interactive and successful. The two “conversations” in this window at an Italian bookstore also work because they provide symmetry, which is appealing to the eye. Each sign has a neat row of books beneath it. The slightly askew stacks in the middle give the eye a resting spot. (Photo by Angela Schmook)

32

F O O T FILLERS

Don’t forget the bottom of your window display. The plethora of thread spools at the bottom of this display in Italy help to fill out the window and give the models “common ground.” They help to connect all of the display elements, so they all tell one story. The neutral colors help to tell a calm and chic story, too. (Photo by Angela Schmook) 6 0 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

MI CRO-STORI ES ON REPEAT

Christmas trees made out of yarn appeal to hobbyists and tell a warming tale of Christmases at Grandma’s. (Photo taken at Anthropologie and shared by @retaildetails on Instagram)

Nothing makes the holidays more charming than a quaint Christmas village. These painted cardboard storefronts and houses in the window at Ruff House Paperie in Lawrence, Kan., are delightful. Cotton snow at the bottom hides the stands and is the finishing touch to the cozy scene. (Photo by @ruffhousepaperie on Instagram)

CHRI STMAS CANDI ES

I saw this DIY Giant Christmas Candies tutorial on Instagram and thought it would make for a perfect Christmastime display prop. The creator painted and glued together four plastic bowls from the Dollar Tree Store into the shape of a wrapped candy. With a little glitter and a ribbon bow at each end, these cheap serving bowls are transformed into a delightful design element. (Photo by @youngwildmefamily on Instagram)

Forget the arch! Balloons can be used to create so much more, like this charming tree and nutcracker. Though the nutcracker might be hard to replicate without specialty balloons, the tree (or a snowman or a candy cane) can be constructed fairly easily. The effect is a playful twist on the holidays that’ll help your store stand out. (Photo by @bargainballoons on Instagram)

SNOW BUSI NESS

Another fun DIY hack: Use a pot lid, spray snow and a credit card to create these fun snow-globe ornaments for a store window. The creator traced the pot lid, sprayed a triangle-shape of snow, and then used a credit card to scrape the shape of a tree and a makeup brush to add the branch details. The same spray-and-scrape technique was used for the snow and "ribbon." (Photo by @marissacarter on Instagram)

Transform your store for the season and turn it into a temporary Christmas Market. All it takes is a little rebranding. Place a sign at the front door labeling it as a “Christmas Market” or “Christkindlmarket” and matching signs above each themed vignette to turn your store into a “shops within a shop” layout. This store had an “Italian Galleria” and “Cocoa Counter” inside. (Photo by @daisys_mercantile on Instagram)

RETRO REMI X

This nostalgic display at Wit & Whimzy in Marietta, Ohio, feels cozy because of its nod to the 1960s and a simpler time. The faux retro TV displays a scene from the cinemas classic, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” and the ornaments above are decorated with funky throwback patterns. Another fun DIY hack floating around on Instagram is this easy wreath tutorial using a wire hanger and collection of ornaments. Twist apart a wire hanger, string it with lots of colorful ornaments, then re-twist the ends together and shape into a circle. Thanks to the clothes hanger, they’re already ready to hang! The wreaths would make for great display accessories. (Photo by @quaintquiltquarters on Instagram) 6 8 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

PLUGGED I NTO THE HOL I DAYS

Playing with scale is always fun. This holiday display posted on Instagram by @shop_thebeehive features an oversized string of lights and plug. The prop is fun and eye-catching while still allowing passersby to peer in through the window and see what the shop has to offer.

Vintage vibes are continuing to trend, which is why this display is eye-catching and effective. Afterall, what’s more old-fashioned and alluring than a stack of classic books? This display evokes the perfect amount of old-school charm and modern tidiness. A stack of books in the same color family is a great way to show off smaller items and give them perceived value. FOLL OW THE BI G RED BOW

Bows continue to be a big trend across product categories, so why not utilize them in your displays, too? This gorgeous bow at Anthropologie captures attention and then leads shoppers’ eyes down the bookcase thanks to its flowing ribbon. (Photo by @cathdoodles on Instagram)

L U X E ON A BUD GET

This luxe bow hack is clever and affordable. The creator bought a large bow balloon, used spray adhesive to attach velvet fabric to both sides of the flat balloon, then added air to expand it. The bow would work great as a Christmas tree topper, window display decoration or vignette anchor. Once the season is done, deflate it and easily store it until next year. Q& A PLANNING FOR THE

UNPREDICTABLE Retailer Carol Schroeder answers questions regarding how to plan for another year of tariff uncertainty, plus how to generate sales in the post-holiday slump.

Navigating the New Year Q: All of 2025 was such a rocky ride! The word “tariff” still pops up in my nightmares. What are the predictions for 2026?

A: Hopefully you had a good holiday season despite the chal-

lenges we all faced. Now that we are starting a new year, I’m sorry to say that unfortunately it looks like the stressful situation caused by tariffs is going to continue. While they may not be as high as originally stated, the unpredictability surrounding this issue has a dampening impact on the economy. We plan to continue what we did to protect our bottom line in 2025: place orders judiciously; purchase closeouts and sale items from our vendors when possible; and pay close attention to high freight costs and special surcharges. In order to maintain an upbeat atmosphere for customers, we’ve asked our staff not to ever mention the “t” word. While tariffs are predicted to continue to be a problem for us, and for our suppliers, there are some positive predictions for this year. The shop local movement is expected to continue to be strong as people look for more connections with their community. Be sure to emphasize your links to your town or city in your social media, letting customers and potential customers know about the organizations and causes you support. Buying from local makers is also a great way to strengthen your ties to your community. And good news — no tariffs! A somewhat new term is popping up in the predictions for 2026 — phygital retail. As much as I love retail industry jargon (spiff, anyone?), it’s going to take me a while to warm up to this one. It’s apparently used to describe the latest stage of omni7 2 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

channel retailing. In addition to selling online and in a store, the phygital retailer adds digital tools such as mobile checkouts, QR codes, augmented reality, smart mirrors, and interactive touch screens. Some of these are designed to create a “seamless, varied customer experience” by replacing in-person interaction with AI-driven transactions. We need to remember that one of our superpowers as independent retailers is offering the type of personal service these tools are meant to supersede. Shoppable digital catalogues are also an element of phygital retail, and we have already seen many of our vendors using them on their websites. In addition to having a showroom and a rep making in-person calls to buyers, some companies offer online ordering with catalogues that are “clickable” for placing orders. A digital catalogue that you can shop is a wonderful companion to a paper catalogue, which is easier to browse through. I always look for reassurance from a company that my sales rep will get credit no matter how I end up placing an order.

Creative Ideas for Valentine’s Day Q: The first couple of months of the year are always slow for

our shop — it’s cold and snowy in our part of the country, and people are feeling the pinch of credit card bills from Christmas. Any ideas for generating sales during the winter?

A: Valentine’s Day is the only bright spot in the first quarter for

many of us. We look forward to creating new displays featuring red, white and pink merchandise in what is otherwise a pretty drab retail landscape. Valentine’s Day can also be a motivation to get customers to get out and go shopping.

RETAIL – SAVVY STORE SOLUTIONS Unless you sell chocolates — half the purchases for this holiday are candy — some creativity may be needed to promote Valentine’s Day. The other half of the seasonal purchases are cards and different types of gifts, so there are still lots of opportunities there, especially if you expand your promotions beyond what is traditionally purchased for a romantic partner. Grandparents often give small gifts to the children in their lives for Valentine’s Day, so toys and plush are potential good sellers. These are sometimes on-theme, featuring hearts or being pink or red. In addition to holiday books, popular gifts include “stuffies,” kits and games. I suggest avoiding anything that is blatantly Valentine-related, such as pillows that look like conversation heart candies. These items are too seasonal to be enjoyed year-round, and if they don’t sell you’ll have to pack them away as carry over. Galentine’s Day, which started 15 years ago as a fictional holiday on the TV show Parks and Recreation, is a welcome addition to the Valentine season. The idea is that friends, especially women, honor their friendship by getting together for brunch or dinner and exchanging gifts. Because this is a relatively new concept, there aren’t any gifts traditionally associated with it. Put

together a Galentine’s Day display in your shop featuring whatever you sell that would be welcome as a small indulgence or treat. You could capitalize on the trend by hosting a Galentine’s Day Sip & Shop event a day or two before Valentine’s Day. Offering wine and appetizers, activities such as free hand massages, and a gift bag for each woman, could be a great way to draw shoppers into the store. You might partner with a heart-related charity to bring in new customers interested in supporting the cause. Look online to see how other shops and shopping districts have made use of this idea. The nice thing about Valentine’s Day is that the heart motif, the colors associated with the holiday, and the themes of love and caring are likely to be found in stock you already have on hand. Visual merchandising for Valentine’s Day need not entail a lot of special purchases. Adding a few eye-catching props such as inflatable hearts to a table of red and white gift options creates an instant seasonal display. Include a selection of Valentines from small card companies, and perhaps offer free gift wrapping, and you’ll make your customers happy that they decided to come out to shop local in February.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS – RE:GIFTING

Will 2026 Be Another Year of Living Dangerously? It’s that time of year again. When columnists and opinion writers in the media make new year’s predictions and forecasts based on what has happened over the past year and what is likely to occur over the next. Well, I’m here to tell you I don’t have a clue what 2026 is going to bring to the people and companies in the gift and home industry. And anybody who says they do is probably not only fooling you but themselves as well. Let’s face it: Did anybody get just about anything right about 2025? Who predicted the “The American consumer chaos and confusion of has been remarkably tariffs, the wild swings in resilient the past 12 months government policies and, perhaps most of all, how and, other than the lower the economy and the rungs of the economic American people would pyramid, most people in the react to all of it? I know I country continue to ride didn’t and even as this is out things in pretty good being written at the end of 2025, I’m really not shape.” quite sure how the year will finish up. This is a painful — not to mention kind of embarrassing — admission to make for somebody who follows business conditions intently, who talks to all kinds of people from all parts of the industry and who tends to consult a pretty good cross section of what other people are reporting in the media. I’m not tooting my own horn because obviously it wasn’t enough to get the job done. Which is why I’m going to be super cautious in offering my

thoughts on 2026. First off, as we all know, the turning of a calendar page doesn’t magically create a whole new set of circumstances for business conditions. Things tend to get along as they have for the most part and it’s only in the long-term aggregate that we can see any true changes. So much depends on how the holiday selling season went. While there was much pessimism (maybe skepticism is a better word?) earlier last year about how the year would finish up, the first reports coming in seemed to indicate that not only would it not be as bad as some thought, it might even be borderline good. Which of course begs the question: If you believe the economic policies of the past year have been detrimental to at least the shorter term, then when exactly does it all hit the fan? All of those conversations and studies tend to point to the bill coming due for the past year now hitting business sometime in the first or second quarter of 2026. I hesitate to state this as fact for all of the disclaimers made earlier. We are in uncharted waters and none of the usual theories about how A impacts B seem to hold up these days. So, yeah, we could see an industry slowdown come early spring... but we might not. There’s also the intangible of the American consumer. She has been remarkably resilient the past 12 months and, other than the lower rungs of the economic pyramid, most people in the country continue to ride out things in pretty good shape. Maybe it’s the value of their homes they refuse to sell, maybe it’s the jobs they continue to hold or maybe it’s just the clichéd-butstill-true indomitable American spirit. If I were in the fortune telling business and my Ouija board was at the repair shop, I’d say don’t look for any huge swings in things for 2026 compared to 2025. But I’m glad I’m not in that line of work.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS – BEST AT WORK

Don’t Import 996: Why America Should Reject Overwork Culture China’s 996 model — 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week — was sold as a path to speed, discipline and dominance. In reality, it became a case study in how overwork corrodes the very foundation of business success. People can push themselves for a while, but there’s a ceiling. Past a certain point, more hours don’t mean more output — they mean more fatigue, more mistakes and more medical leave. The research is consistent: long hours shorten careers and lives. The toll isn’t metaphorical. It’s physical, measurable and permanent. On paper, 72-hour weeks look like commitment. In practice, they deliver shallow engagement and sloppy execution. Companies eventually discovered that an army of burned-out employees doesn’t innovate, doesn’t solve problems creatively and doesn’t stay long enough to compound skills. The “hustle” turned out to be theater — activity mistaken for achievement. Younger workers in China have already begun rejecting this model, treating it as outdated and exploitative. In the U.S., where talent mobility is even higher and employee voice carries weight, a 996-style culture would repel the very people companies most need. Burnout doesn’t just hurt performance — it

erodes employer brand, drives attrition and makes recruitment more expensive. China’s own tech giants are backing away. Midea shuts down offices early. DJI enforces lights-out rules. Not because they grew soft, but because the numbers didn’t add up. Overwork drained productivity, wrecked culture and bled talent. If the birthplace of 996 is walking it back, adopting it in the U.S. would be more than misguided — it would be self-sabotage. High performance doesn’t come from pushing people to the breaking point. It comes from clarity, focus and systems that let people perform at their best without sacrificing their health. Companies that understand this build cultures where people want to stay — and where innovation compounds. The 996 work schedule isn’t just a bad idea for China. It’s a warning shot for the U.S.: Overwork isn’t a competitive advantage. It’s a competitive decline disguised as discipline. Keep this in mind when making business plans for 2026. INDUSTRY INSIGHTS – ROAD REPS

From Buyer to Rep For Alyssa George, being a sales representative in the gift industry isn’t just a job; it’s a relationship-driven journey built on trust, curiosity and care. Representing Diverse Marketing in the Dallas and Northeast Texas territory, she has spent more than 16 years helping independent retailers thrive. Her unwavering commitment to their success, recently recognized with the REA Sales Representative of the Year Award for the Southwest Region, is a testament to the value she places on her customers. This recognition celebrates not only her results but also her reputation for integrity and partnership. George’s understanding of the business is not just theoretical; it comes from hands-on experience. Before her role as an independent representative, she worked in store management and as a buyer for a large department store. This firsthand perspective shapes her approach to retail partnerships today. “I understand the effort it takes to keep a store running smoothly,” she explained. “When I meet with a retailer, I want to make every moment count. Whether we’re reviewing new products or discussing strategy, I want them to feel supported and confident in their decisions.” George believes that five qualities are essential for a successful sales representative: organization, listening, adaptability, motivation and curiosity. “Organization is the foundation,” she said. “Managing multiple lines, appointments and follow-ups across a territory takes real discipline. Staying on top of details helps everything run smoothly for me and my customers.” Listening, she added, is equally important. “It’s what allows me to make thoughtful, strategic recommendations instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach. This is key to building strong relationships that last.” Adaptability has also become essential. “The gift industry is always evolving,” George said. “New trends, economic shifts, product launches, ordering systems, vendors, it’s important to be able to pivot quickly and stay flexible.” Much of George’s day is spent on the road, meeting storeowners, answering questions, and following up on orders. It requires self-motivation and a deep sense of purpose. “A lot of what we do is self-directed,” she noted. “You have to be proactive and responsive. My customers know I’ll answer their texts and emails quickly. They count on that consistency.” Like many seasoned professionals, George has witnessed how e-commerce has transformed retail. She sees an opportunity for independent stores to stand out through storytelling and personal connection. “More shoppers today are looking for experiences they can’t get online,” she said. “That’s where independent retailers shine. They offer curated assortments

and genuine relationships. My job is to help them highlight that uniqueness.” She helps retailers choose lines that align with their brand identity and profitability goals while avoiding products already saturated online. “It’s about being strategic,” she explained. “We look for products that tell a story, that feel authentic to the store, and that offer healthy margins.” Beyond product selection, George enjoys helping stores plan events and promotions that bring customers back in. “Community is everything,” she said. “Whether it’s planning an in-store event, assembling swag bags, or just brainstorming creative ways to engage shoppers, I love seeing local retailers bring people together.” That passion for connection also fuels her enthusiasm for a new initiative within Diverse Marketing. “Our Diverse Insights team is helping retailers build their social presence,” George said. “We’re offering content creation and strategy support to help stores that are just getting started with social media or looking for fresh ideas. Social media is where trends take shape and grow momentum. It’s vital that independent retailers have a voice in that space and we’re finding ways to help them be heard.” Every conversation, every showroom appointment, and every store visit is an opportunity to strengthen the independent retail community George loves. Her recent REA award may celebrate her achievements, but to her, success is shared. “Every day is different, every customer is different, and that’s what keeps it exciting,” she said. “When my customers succeed, that’s my greatest reward.”

Angela Schmook is the vice president of operations and marketing at Road Runners, and the co-founder of Reps Are Local Too, an organization dedicated to supporting independent sales representatives. With a passion for strengthening relationships between reps, retailers and brands, Schmook advocates for the vital role local sales reps play in helping businesses thrive.

FASHION

Y2K is coming back — but this time without the fear. Fashion trends taking over in 2026 are reminiscent of the early 2000s styles with products like chunky jewelry, flared jeans and rhinestone ensembles once again rising in popularity. This resurgence fits in with the vintage trend happening across the gift and home industry. In fact, 70 percent of Gen Z shoppers said they prefer shopping secondhand for Y2K fashion pieces instead of just buying new ones, according to FG Conscious Fashion. Keep an eye on this trend as it continues and remember: No fashion era is immune to a comeback.

TRENDING GIFTS STATIONERY | GOURMET | FASHION | HOLIDAY | CANDLES | BATH & BODY | GIFTABLES | HOME | KIDS Candles have long been a top choice for consumers in the gift industry. According to the 2026 Gift Book Consumer Survey, more than three quarters of consumers plan to purchase at least one this year either as a gift or for personal use, making it the most popular home fragrance product. As a candle brand, standing out to consumers can be difficult — especially when the market is so full of options. But that isn’t a problem for American-made candle brand Skeem. The company has found a way to leave its mark on the industry with collections that are “designed to be repurposed.” Skeem emphasizes vessel designs that can have new life once their initial purpose is served without sacrificing appearance. For example, detailed apothecary match bottles can act as small vases, while clear glass candle vessels can be turned into catch-alls on a vanity. Some candles are accented with etched or

carved wood tops, while others act as match tins for a set. Candles are often thought of as a way to dress up a room inside of the home. But what many don’t consider are the candles that offer just as much elegance and ambiance in an outdoor setting. Skeem offers a full citronella collection that takes outdoor spaces to the next level, while also helping to fend off unwanted bugs, thanks to the inclusion of natural citronella oils. This Aura Citronella Mini Candle Trio Gift Set offers three citronella scents: Lavender, Palo Santo, and Verbena. Sized at 2.5 ounces and filled with a colored soy/vegetable-based wax that easily fits into any décor, these candle minis are perfect for outdoor dining tables. INDULGING IN

Fragrance As consumers look to establish more well-rounded self-care rituals, they are seeking out fragrances that create specific ambiances that suit their needs. by Amanda Erd

Picture this: It’s been a long 8-hour day at the office. Your day was full of meetings and your boss just dumped yet another project onto your already full plate. You get home, drop your stuff at the door and head to the couch for some much-needed downtime, but first you need to set the mood. What’s the first thing you reach for? For a lot of consumers, it’s a candle in their favorite scent. Candles are one of the most popular products in the home industry. In 2024, the global candle market was valued at nearly $8.4 billion, according to Market Data Forecast’s Candle Market Report. The market is expected to grow to just over $13 billion by 2033 and much of that growth can be attributed to the versatility of candles. In the scenario we painted above, the candle helps the consumer relax after a stressful day. In fact, the American Psychological Association says more than 60 percent of consumers associate scented candles with mental well-being and stress reduction. It’s becoming even more pertinent as social media trends toward all things self-care. Self-care is a trend that has rapidly developed over the last few years as consumers look to pay more attention to 9 0 - G IFT S & D EC OR ATI V E AC C ESS ORIE S - J A N U A RY 2026

themselves and what they need to feel good. Skincare routines, dedicated time for hobbies, time during the day to unwind — these are all considered self-care regimens. Adding candles into the mix helps add another layer to the self-care methodology. “Across the candle and home fragrance industry, we’re seeing a strong shift toward products that support emotional well-being and intentional living,” Chris Barnes, marketing director for Candle Warmers, said. “Consumers are no longer looking for fragrance just to scent a space. They’re seeking aromas that help them relax, unwind, energize, or create mindful daily rituals.”

Scents with Purpose

As consumers look to enhance their personal spaces, they often turn towards aromatherapy and focus on the benefits different scents can provide. “We think of fragrance as a simple way to shift your energy or the atmosphere in your space — whether it's a candle that instantly creates a cozy moment, an invigorating bath and body wash that turns a morning shower into the ultimate fragrance experience, or a beautifully scented home care product that

makes daily chores more enjoyable — it’s all about putting you in the best mood,” said Stefania Ciarleglio, senior director of integrated marketing & communications at Curio. There are several scents that can enhance one’s mood. For example, citrus and mint are known to be energizing, while lavender and vanilla are calming. “Several of our scent palettes [at Capri Blue] are rooted in classic self-care notes,” Ciarleglio said. “Citrus fragrances like Volcano — with tropical fruit notes — are excellent for uplifting spirits and improving focus and energy. While our warm and woodsy scents like Coconut Santal and Havana Vanilla — with musk and floral notes — bring on the comfy, cozy vibes and enhance feelings of well-being.” Consumers looking to add candles to their self-care routines may even go so far as to have different scented candles for different parts of their day. “Calming and stress-relief scents such as lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus and bergamot are ideal for winding down or supporting bedtime routines,” Barnes added. “For those needing an energy boost or mental clarity, citrus blends like lemon, mandarin and grapefruit, as well as peppermint and spearmint, help create bright, uplifting environments. “Grounding notes, including sandalwood, cedarwood, mahogany and teak, offer warmth and stability, making them perfect for meditation or quiet reflection.”

TRENDING GIFTS – CANDLES to create a more complex aroma. While it’s something typically done in the bath and body sector, it’s spilling over into candles and home fragrance as consumers look to create more personal spaces in their homes. “Home spaces are becoming personal sanctuaries,” Barnes said. “Decorative warmers and diffusers that double as home décor play a large role in creating relaxing, spa-like environments.” Ciarleglio agreed that consumers are trending towards scent layering, or, as Capri Blue calls it, “scentscaping.” “We’re loving the idea of ‘scent zones’ or ‘scentscaping’ at home — using different fragrances throughout your space to create the vibe you want,” she said. “Think an uplifting scent to spark creativity when you're working from home, or an amber, woodsy scent in your wind-down corner. It’s an easy, fun way to turn your space into a series of little mood-boosting moments.” Scent layering with home fragrance can be as simple as pairing a candle with wax melts or essential oils. Consumers can easily change up the combinations based on what setting they are trying to create. Popular scents, like Bridgewater Candle Company’s Sweet Grace, can be offered in multiple products to allow maximum layering potential. “Sweet Grace captures the feeling of simple joy with a beautiful blend of vibrant passion fruit, soft tea notes, and warm patchouli, creating an uplifting yet comforting fragrance that feels like home — wherever you are,” said Amy Dawes, VP of sales and market strategy at Grace Management Group. “Just a couple of years ago candles and wax products were the majority

Ingredients Still Matter

As consumers are more mindful of their self-care techniques, they are also paying close attention to the ingredients they’re using to enhance their routines — even for candles, wax melts and essential oils. Sustainable and natural waxes — such as soy and beeswax — are shifting consumers toward more eco-conscious candle consumption. They want the benefits of aromatherapy without harming themselves or the environment with the toxins that can contribute to indoor air pollution. “Shoppers are paying closer attention to clean, natural and transparent ingredients, gravitating toward essential oil blends and simple botanicals,” Barnes said. “Airomé essential oils [are] certified 100 percent all-natural and provide pure botanical support for calming, grounding or uplifting environments.” Some consumers may have heightened sensitivity to candles and wax melts made with paraffin wax, which can cause coughing, shortness of breath or even eye irritation as they burn. They also produce more soot than natural waxes, making for a “dirtier” burn. Barnes added: “As sustainability becomes increasingly important to consumers, we are exploring more eco-conscious

Candle consumption certainly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. As consumers continue to emphasize their own well-being, the need for tailored scents will certainly continue. The spaces they are looking to customize are starting to grow, too, as they look to dress up spaces away from home with their familiar, relaxing scents. “We’re seeing a big lean-in to on-the-go fragrance — like easyto-pack travel tin candles,” Ciarleglio said. “These are a great, portable way for jetsetters to create an instant atmosphere and add a bit of their own personality to a hotel room or vacation rental. “It’s about paying attention to what people are loving and then trying out new stuff — scent ideas, formats or designs that feel fun and are easy to bring into your life and space.” At Candle Warmers, the idea of self-care is driving development by “innovating both our product designs and fragrance collections,” Barnes said. “We are continually developing wellness-inspired scent families that tie into emotional benefits, whether calming, energizing, grounding or spa-like.” The company is also working toward fresh product innovations that can enhance the consumers’ atmosphere through more than just scent, such as multi-sensory warmers with ambient light experiences.

FEELING THE

HOLIDAY SPIRIT by Amanda Erd

We may have just concluded the 2025 holiday season, but it’s already time to start planning for holidays in 2026! Consumers are yearning for nostalgia during that time of year and with that comes the possibility for plenty of new products: fun takes on Santa and nutcrackers, animals getting in the jolly spirit, everything being topped with bows. Traditional colors are expected to pave the way for 2026, with deep reds and greens paired with metallics taking centerstage, though other niche styles like pastels and bolder, neon palettes will be in demand as well. We’ve gathered some products — ranging from ornaments to kitchenware — to give you a glance at what the next holiday season will bring.

HOPPING INTO

EASTER by Lenise Willis

Easter spending has steadily increased in the last two years, with the National Retail Federation reporting that consumers planned to spend $23.6 billion on Easter last year, which was $1.2 billion above the previous year. According to the NRF’s Easter-related surveys, tradition tends to be the driving factor for Easter spending, with consumers spending the most on chocolate and candy, food and Easter gifts. While bunnies, lambs, ducks and crosses remain iconic Easter symbols in décor, jewelry and more, flowers are just as symbolic of the season of rebirth. Here, we pulled together some of the latest spring-forward products, from seasonal salt and pepper shakers and floral earrings to Easter décor and basket goodies.

Following the rise in vintage-style home décor and chunky, #mobwife gold accessories, “old-money aesthetic” is now trending on social media and in consumers’ shopping carts. The vibe, which could be described as “posh without the price,” is characterized by antique-looking giftables, like decorative compact mirrors and lipstick holders, as well as minimalist pearls, gold jewelry, fur-lined accessories and any products that look like they’ve been passed down from iconic eras like the 1920s or ’50s. The key to the trend is classy, timeless products that look refined and expensive, but without the rich price tag. For 2026, customers will be looking for upscale stationery, classic jewelry pieces, elevated perfumes and perfume bottles, and products that feel storied. Check out just a few of the products you can stock to appeal to customers who are looking for a little classic glam that looks well-made and worth their dollar.

AMERICAN MADE Anna Ursini loved the water from an early age. As a young girl, she would often spend time at her grandfather’s lake house in Connecticut. Now, she uses those memories to create works of bathymetric art. Ursini is the artist behind Sea & Soul, a décor company that highlights the stories and adventures of coastal living. She combines maps with her unique drawing style to create pieces of art featuring iconic coastlines, bodies of water and more. Craftsman Bob Stremcha brings the art to life through a range of woodworking techniques and technologies without wavering from “the tradition of American craftsmanship.” Stremcha’s shop is nestled in rural Wisconsin where he and his wife, Kathy, work together to create pieces for Sea & Soul. “As one of the longest running manufactur-

ers of custom bathymetric art in the country, we design not only the products themselves, but also the way they are produced,” the company website states. Each handcrafted nautical chart is laser engraved on Baltic birch wood and sanded to a smooth finish, colored with stain and finished with a lacquer clear coat before being framed with weathered pine. Customers can choose between two color stains for the water — either a deep blue or a blue green. Currently, Sea & Soul offers several locations in a variety of products including wall art, clocks, serving trays, ornaments and even cribbage boards. Pacific Northwest Two-Level Wood Map.
