OPPORTUNITIES There are hundreds of resources out there to assist you financially in gaining the education and skills required to meet your professional goals in the trades and design/build industries, no matter what you’re aiming to become. In addition to assistance provided by most any apprenticeship program, as well as scholarships offered by companies to their employees’ children, we have compiled a list of scholarship opportunities below. The list isn’t exclusive, so be sure to check with local apprenticeship programs and professional groups on a regular basis to learn about new opportunities.
AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS Phone: 800-242-3837 https://www.aia.org/resource-center/scholarships%20/uia The AIA offers a variety of scholarships, including Diversity Advancement Scholarships, renewable for up to five years. The $10,000 Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Scholarship is for third- and fourth-year women architecture students, as well as any level of graduate study. The society’s Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R. ASHRAE has awarded more than $2.25 million during the past 30 years to more than 400 students.

This includes the Hatfield Architectural Award: a $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate architecture students attending University of Oregon or Portland State University who express a commitment to community service; the William Hart Scholarship: a $5,000 scholarship for B.Arch students of color entering their last year at University of Oregon or Portland State University; the Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship: a $10,000 multi-year scholarship for Native American, Alaskan Native and Hawaiian Native students pursuing a degree in Art or Architecture at Portland State University; a $5,000 renewable PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship for undergraduate students marginalized by ethnicity and/or gender; and the PCC Architecture + Interior Design Scholarship: a $5,000 scholarship for first generation students enrolled in PCC Architectural Design and Drafting or Interior Design degree programs at Portland Community College.
