he 2025 Briar Cliff women’s soccer season was defined by resilience, leadership, and growth through a year of transition. Despite facing challenges throughout the season, the Chargers remained competitive in nearly every match while continuing to build a strong and organized style of play.

The team’s leadership was anchored by captains Sydney Robbins and Sadie Jones, whose consistency, accountability, and commitment helped guide the program through difficult moments. As graduating seniors, they set the tone daily in training and competition while helping keep the group focused and connected throughout the season.

Emma Blomberg and Ellen Lofsjogard also played critical roles in the team’s success. Both players delivered consistent performances throughout the year and played nearly every minute of every match, providing stability, leadership, and reliability on both sides of the ball. Their ability to perform at a high level week after week helped give the Chargers a strong foundation throughout the season.

Although results did not always reflect the quality of play, the team consistently competed with intensity and organization. Many matches showcased the group’s potential and demonstrated the progress being made within the program. The ability to remain united, continue improving, and battle through adversity became one of the defining characteristics of the season.

The 2025 Briar Cliff men's soccer season was defined by resilience, growth, and continued development of a strong team identity. Finishing the year with an 8-8-3 overall record, the Chargers compete with intensity throughout the season while building a possession-based style combined with a high-pressing approach that kept the team competitive in every match.

The season also marked the first year under Head Coach Luis de la Fuente and his staff, who quickly established expectations centered around discipline, accountability, and playing with a shared purpose. Their leadership helped guide the program through an important transition year while laying the foundation for continued success moving forward.

Midway through the season, the Charges faced adversity during a difficult three-game losing streak. Rather than allowing the setback to define the year, the team responded by staying connected, regaining confidence, and continuing to compete together.

FOOTBALL

SEASON IN REVIEW

The 2025 Briar Cliff Charger Football team put together one of the most successful season in program history, finishing with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-5 mark in GPAC play. The six victories marked the most wins in a single season in school history, highlighting a major step forward for the program.

The Chargers opened the year with a strong 35-23 home victory over St. Ambrose and closed the season with another statement win, defeating Waldorf University 28-12 on the road to finish the year on a high note.

CATHOLIC CUP CHAMPIONS

On September 20, the Chargers traveled to Mount Marty and earned a 34-20 victory to claim the Catholic Cup

Cliff secured wins over Hastings, Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, and Waldorf, finishing the season 6-5.

Quarterback Brock Saya led a historic offense, completing 61.6% of his passes for 2,360 yards and 14 touchdowns, setting program records for both passing yards and completion percentage in a single season.

• Kymani Fleurme led the team with 599 receiving yards and eamed Honorable Mention All-Conference.

• Steven Whiting led the team with 49 receptions and 4 receiving touchdowns. He ranks 7th all-time in receptions (95), 7th in TD receptions (13), and 8th in receiving yards (1,516).

• Chase Thomas led the team in rushing with 519 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a 120-yard performance in the season finale.

OFFENSE DEFENSE

The Chargers made major strides defensively, ranking in the top two in the GPAC in sacks (24) and takeaways (19) and recording the 7th-most interceptions in a single season in program history.

• Max Rascon led the team with 82 tackles and 3.5 sacks, earning Honorable Mention All-Conference.

• Dayton Harrell totaled 65 tackles and led the team with 3 interceptions, earning Second Team All-Conference.

• Phillip Benjamin led the team with 4.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss, finishing his career 9th all-time in program history in sacks.

As I look ahead to the 2026 season, there is a lot to be excited about for Briar Cliff football. This will be my first season as Head Coach, and I'm excited for the opportunity to lead a program that is coming off the most wins in school history in 2025.

We return 9 of our 11 starters, which gives us a strong foundations and a lot of experience. Brock Saya is coming off a record-breaking season and is on the verge of making even more history. He needs just 1,142 yards to become our all-time leader in passing touchdowns, and four touchdowns away from breaking the record.

We also return our starting kicker and punter, which gives us an important consistency on special teams.

Kymani Fleurme is another player with a chance to leave his mark on our record books. He is 825 receiving yards away from becoming our all-time leader in career receiving yards, just 17 receptions away from 100 career catches, and 11 touchdown receptions away from becoming our all-time leader in receiving touchdowns.

Defensively, we bring back 6 of our 11 starters from a unit that was one of the top defenses in the GPAC in sacks and takeaways last season.

TVOLLEYBALL

SEASON IN REVIEW

he 2025–2026 Briar Cliff volleyball team continued to establish itself as one of the top defensive programs in the country, combining strong leadership, elite net play, and continued program growth throughout the season. The Chargers recorded their most overall wins since 2021 and their most conference wins since 2020, continuing the upward momentum of the program.

Briar Cliff became one of the most dominant blocking teams in the nation, leading the country in total blocks while ranking second nationally in both blocks per set and block assists. The Chargers’ ability to control play at the net became one of the defining strengths of the season and helped the team compete consistently throughout conference play.

Individually, multiple Chargers earned national recognition for their performances throughout the year. Aubrey Hoeft ranked fourth nationally in both blocks per set and total blocks while also finishing third nationally in block assists. Her 141 total blocks moved her into 10th place in Briar Cliff history for single-season total blocks.

Brooklyn Voss also ranked among the national leaders, finishing eighth in the country in block assists and 11th in blocks per set. She ended the season ranked 14th nationally in total blocks and entered the Briar Cliff record book with the 10th most block assists in a single season (108).

Defensively, Avery Beller capped off an outstanding career by ranking 20th nationally in digs per set and 21st nationally in total digs. She also finished her career eighth all-time in Briar Cliff history with 1,730 career digs.

As we look ahead to the 2026 season, there is excitement surrounding the continued growth of Briar Cliff volleyball. With strong returning experience, momentum from this past season, and a competitive incoming class, the program is positioned to continue building toward success.

The Chargers return eight varsity starters from a team that established itself as one of the top blocking programs in the country.

The program enters its second season under Head Coach Lauren Boatman, while Assistant Coach Brady Van Dusen steps into the role of Associate Head Coach.

With a strong returning core and an incoming recruiting class expected to add depth and competition, the future of the program continues moving in a positive direction.

The expectation moving forward is to continue building on the success from this season while competing at a high level within the GPAC and nationally.

TTRACK & CROSS COUNTRY

SEASON IN REVIEW

he 2025–2026 Briar Cliff Cross Country and Track & Field programs showed tremendous growth, development, and resilience throughout a year filled with progress and achievement. Under new coaching leadership, the Chargers continued building a competitive culture while athletes across both the men’s and women’s teams delivered personal bests, school records, and conference qualifiers throughout the cross country, indoor, and outdoor seasons.

The cross country season was highlighted by Maria Russell setting a new school record in the women’s 6K race, while Demetry Hoseth recorded a personal best in the men’s 8K. At the GPAC Cross Country Championships, the men’s team finished 11th and the women’s team placed 10th.

During the indoor track & field season, Briar Cliff athletes combined for 13 total personal bests across multiple events. Blake Hogancamp earned an 8th-place finish at the GPAC Indoor Championships while setting personal bests in both the shot put and weight throw. Athletes across sprinting, distance, hurdles, and field events continued to make significant strides throughout the season.

The outdoor season continued that momentum with 15 additional personal best performances and multiple GPAC qualifiers. Devondra Sands highlighted the year by setting a new school record in the 100m hurdles and placing 6th at the GPAC Outdoor Championships. Jayson Rucker, Colin Rhynalds, Blake Hogancamp, and Caitlin Anderholm also qualified for GPAC Outdoor competition in their respective events.

One of the biggest accomplishments of the year was the team’s ability to adapt and continue progressing through a coaching transition. The athletes embraced the changes, trusted the process, and continued developing both individually and as a team throughout the year.

SEASON IN REVIEW

he 2025–2026 Briar Cliff wrestling team continued to make major strides as the program showed significant growth, competitiveness, and improvement throughout the season. After essentially rebuilding the program during the previous year, the Chargers embraced the process and responded with a strong turnaround on the mat.

Briar Cliff improved from a 3–8 dual record during the 2024–2025 season to a 6–5 dual meet record this year, reflecting the team’s development, commitment, and growing confidence throughout the season. Several wrestlers also made major improvements individually while helping elevate the overall level of the program.

The Chargers earned six GPAC Tournament placers and qualified two wrestlers for the NAIA National Tournament. Along with the success on the mat, the program also excelled academically, finishing 15th nationally in team academics.

Individually, Jarrod Gilliam and Dante Rigal led the way for Briar Cliff. Gilliam finished the season with 19 wins while earning National Qualifier and All-GPAC honors. Rigal also posted 19 wins — including 17 bonus-point victories — while tying for the national lead in pins and qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament.

The Chargers finished the season 19-11 overall and 13-9 in GPAC play, highlighted by a 9-0 start and an 11-3 record heading into the holiday break. Briar Cliff closed the regular season with a statement win over Morningside, 105-99, securing a fifth-place finish in the conference standings.

The Chargers earned five wins over NAIA National Tournament teams and advanced to the national stage in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where their season concluded in the Round of 64 against the College of Idaho.

As I look ahead to the 2026-27 season, I'm excited about the direction of Briar Cliff women's basketball. As I enter my second season as Head Coach, we have a strong foundation in place and a group that continues to grow, compete, and embrace what it means to be a Charger.

We return a strong offense group led by Abby Lee, the GPAC Freshman of the Year, who averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds. With another offseason of development, we expect continued growth and consistency on the offensive end.

The 2025–2026 Briar Cliff men’s basketball team battled through a season filled with adversity, growth, and highly competitive GPAC play while continuing to show toughness and resilience throughout the year. Although consistency proved difficult at times, the Chargers continued competing with energy and determination every night while building an identity centered around leadership, defense, and perseverance.

After opening the season with a 1–2 record, Briar Cliff responded with a five-game winning streak during the month of November, showcasing the team’s ability to regroup and compete at a high level. Throughout conference play, the Chargers consistently battled some of the top teams in the GPAC and remained competitive in key moments throughout the season.

Senior leadership became one of the defining strengths of the team. Blake Sindelar earned First Team All-GPAC honors after leading the Chargers offensively, while Wil Lugar anchored the defense and was named GPAC Defensive Player of the Year. Dawson Mohr also provided valuable contributions off the bench during his lone season with the program.

The Chargers also saw major growth from several younger players throughout the season. Jaxson Wingert, Colby Collison, and Ryan Kleppe all stepped into larger roles and thrived with increased opportunities, helping build a strong foundation for the future of Briar Cliff basketball.

One of the most memorable moments of the season came on Senior Day, when Briar Cliff earned an emotional win over Concordia. Another highlight came during the GPAC Tournament match up against Mount Marty, where the Chargers competed with toughness and intensity in one of their strongest performances of the year.

he 2025–2026 Briar Cliff softball team continued building momentum throughout a season defined by growth, resilience, and program development. While consistency remained an area of focus, the Chargers showed flashes of strong all-around play and continued taking meaningful steps forward as a team.

Throughout the season, Briar Cliff demonstrated its potential through quality pitching performances, aggressive offense, and steady defensive improvement. The Chargers also continued building a strong team culture through leadership from upperclassmen and valuable experience gained by younger players throughout the year.

One of the biggest accomplishments of the season came in the record books, as the Chargers set a new single-season stolen base record with 103 stolen bases and a new single-season doubles record with 79 doubles. Several players also moved into the program’s single-season record rankings across multiple offensive categories.

The team also earned recognition in the classroom and across the conference. Seven Chargers were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes, while Sydney Ebel, Lauryn Mattox, and Elizabeth Austin each received GPAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.

The 2025–2026 Briar Cliff baseball team continued to compete with toughness, resilience, and depth throughout a demanding season. Led by strong offensive production, consistent pitching performances, and reliable defense, the Chargers continued building a competitive culture while younger players gained valuable experience throughout the year.

Offensively, Cade Marquardt and Nico Sall helped lead the Chargers throughout the season, while Brock Saya and Nick Hays consistently delivered strong performances on the mound. Additional contributions came from Jake Christianson and Damon Schmid, who provided reliable defense and production at the plate throughout the spring.

One of the biggest strengths of the team was its ability to compete in pressure moments. In a rivalry match-up against conference-leading Morningside, Johnny Reed and Brendan Ward combined for eight innings while battling one of the top offenses in the conference. Reed, pitching through injury as a senior, and Ward, a true freshman, helped keep the Chargers competitive in a tightly contested match-up.

The offense also delivered standout performances throughout the year, highlighted by Cade Marquardt's dominant outing against Mount Marty. Marquardt finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, and five RBIs, while Jake Christianson added three RBIs in an explosive offensive performance.

As I look ahead to the 2027 season, there is a lot to be excited about for Briar Cliff baseball. This will be my eighth season as Head Coach, and I'm excited for the opportunity to lead a program that is coming off the most GPAC wins in school history.

The 2025–2026 Briar Cliff Esports program continued its rapid growth and delivered one of the most competitive seasons in program history. Across Overwatch, Valorant, Rocket League, and League of Legends, the Chargers competed against some of the top collegiate Esports programs in the country while continuing to establish Briar Cliff as a rising name in collegiate Esports.

The Overwatch program led the way with multiple national-level finishes, including a 3rd–4th place finish at the Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup (CECC) and a 7th–8th place finish at NACE Nationals. Briar Cliff was also the only team at CECC to take a map off eventual champion Northwood.

Valorant captured the GPAC Esports Championship with an undefeated 3–0 run at the conference LAN event, while Rocket League finished as runner-up at the GPAC Championship. League of Legends also posted strong postseason results, earning a 4th-place finish in the CLOL Conference Playoffs and a 3rd–4th place finish in the NACE Varsity Plus Group A playoffs.

The Chargers finished the year with a combined program record of 62–51 while continuing to grow the culture, identity, and visibility of Esports on campus.
