01 JUST A PARK?

ARCH 196 020 JULIE CHEN

Assess the needs and conditions of the Liberty State Park Administrative Complex to re-imagine the existing modular structure which contains administrative spaces, a ticket booth and storage for grounds work.

A meandering path gradually increases in elevation. As visitors begin their visit, they will be taken back to Liberty State Park when it was a railroad at ground level. As they traverse through the museum, they will learn about the present and what could be a future if we take action to fight the sea level crisis. At the end of the museum, they will have an opportunity to reflect on what they just learned as they are now 6 above since they started.

The office space and the museums are two structures that complement each other. The exhibit spaces in the museums decrease in size to symbolize the amount of land available for humans to occupy. The difference in size between the beginning and end of the museum is almost half. Guests will be guided through linear trees to the guest services area where they will obtain their entry ticket to the museum. The office is designed to allow employees to have privacy and productivity while still being able to interact with their colleagues through the hallways. To provide ample sun exposure to the film, the positioning of the negative films was based on the natural path of the sun.

02 ORDERING SYSTEMS

ARCH 196 020 JULIE CHEN

The exercise aims to create a system of vertical and horizontal components that organize space into frames. These frames can be combined to form a bay, cell, or module. The text should be simple, direct, and organized logically.

03 MATERIAL SYSTEMS

ARCH 196 020 JULIE CHEN

Materiality is vital in architecture. This project will examine it through design models that will inform assignments on structure, space, movement, and organization. The text will use simple language and be direct and engaging.

This structure is for the people. It could be found in a park where people can find shade in the cones. But it can also be found downtown as a museum about climate change. The structure features the cones in performance by creating a pattern.

03 MATERIAL SYSTEMS

SUGAR AND SPOONS

As the spoons align themselves into a fan, it creates an affect that would be the beginning to a wall that has apertures to bring in sunlight. The structure could also become a train station where people from the suburbs come to the city.

04 SHELTER

ARCH 195 003 THOMAS OGORZALEK

To encompass nature on an intimate level while being protected from the elements of the environment and to observe the constellations at night.

SITE AXONOMETRIC

The Pegasus is a shelter that is designed to enhance the expereinces of nature through different senses. On October 28, I will travel to the pegasus to enjoy a weekend trip. The only thing I will bring to the shelter is a few snacks and my saxophone. I will arrive at the Pegasus at 6:50 AM from the west side. The crisp cold air is emphasized with the elevation of the site that provides the perfect balance of the morning air and dew.

The postioning of the shelter was dicated by the sun's path. By organzing the spaces in relation to the movement of the sun specific aperatures were added to enhance the space.

05 VOLUME WITHIN A VOLUME

ARCH 195 003 THOMAS OGORZALEK

To explore and understand the relationship between an interior and exterior volume and the effects of a pouche manipulating polyhedrons to emulate an interesting shape that can look unique from the inside and out. Further inspiration was done through organic forms found in nature and understanding how animals live.

06 SILHOUETTE TO VOLUME

ARCH 195 003 THOMAS OGORZALEK

Using 3 silhouettes to create a volume by boolean union, intersection and/or difference the power of human connection can be achieved by a simple high five.

2D TO 3D UNFOLD

ARCH 195 003 THOMAS OGORZALEK

The exercise teaches how unfolded notations represent intersections of objects.

Combining two paper cubes into one object with a point of view requires understanding of 3D form and 2D planes.
