S
pring is here, and “event season” is fast approaching. Despite rising gas prices, indications remain strong that travel and tourism in Wind River Country/Fremont County will see another record breaking season in 2022.
Celebrating Lander’s Business Community How great it was to come together again -- in person -- at our annual Community Awards Luncheon! We highlight this year’s winners on page 5, and we thank once more Dr. Brad Tyndall, President of Central Wyoming College, who updated attendees on the latest developments at CWC, including the fascinating work being done at the Alpine Science Institute just outside Sinks Canyon. Thanks are also due again to our generous sponsors for making the event possible: CB&T, St. John’s Health - Lander, the National Museum of Military Vehicles, LOR Foundation, Black Hills Energy, and Western Printing. (Be on the lookout next month for an update on our inaugural Lander Volunteer Fair.) Events Galore! All Summer Long and into the Fall Although we’re sure to see some more of the white stuff, we’re busy supporting and promoting events old and new for summer 2022. We’ve approved more than $50,000 in Tourism Asset Development Grants (money collected through state and local lodging taxes) for more than 20 nonprofit organizations to host just shy of 30 events here in Lander this summer and fall. From newer events like the Roll & Slide Poker Ride, WYO131 Gravel Grinder bicycle race, Lander Presents summer concert series, and Wyoming Outdoor Weekend to iconic Lander classics like the Pioneer Days Rodeo, Pageant of the Old West 4th of July Parade, International Climbers Festival and, of course, our own Lander Brewfest -- #20!-- the Lander Chamber of Commerce supports and promotes nearly every annual event of note in Lander. These events draw thousands of tourists to our town each year who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, keeping businesses thriving and driving local sales and other taxes that fund our city’s infrastructure and services. Tourism is of particular importance to Lander, and the Lander Chamber is proud to play a key role in promoting our local tourism and hospitality economy. Thank You, Members! You’ve likely noticed that we’ve been highlighting certain Chamber members on the front and back covers of this newsletter. These members have responded to our new focus on putting our members first by increasing their investments in our efforts. Thank you for your confidence and your support!
