Banner Up! banners approved for display in downtown Brentwood 10th anniversary signs celebrate agricultural history

Downtown Brentwood will soon be decked out in celebration of the city’s agricultural heritage following the approval of this year’s Banner Up! submissions by the Arts Commission during their July 1 meeting. 2026 marks the 10th year of the Banner Up! program, put on by the nonprofit Art Guild of the Delta, as a way to “beautify” downtown Brentwood and City Park, according to city staff who presented the topic at the meeting.

The program invites artists of all levels to design original hand-painted banners displayed throughout downtown. These pieces not only beautify the space but tell the story of our community and support local tourism by bringing people to downtown Brentwood.” Each year, artists follow a specific theme and the guild partners with a local organization, with the banners serving as a fundraiser for the organization when they are auctioned off later in the year after being taken down. As East County families spend more time at backyard pools, community pools and Delta waterways this summer, it is important to be mindful of how to stay safe around water this time of year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4. The CDC also noted that more than 4,000 people die from unintentional drowning each year in the United States, addressing that formal swim lessons are proven to reduce drowning risk.
