Brentwood Council reaches compromise on noise ordinance Definition of ‘unruly’ scrutinized By Jake Menez Staff Writer
The Brentwood City Council voted 5-0 during their May 26 meeting in favor of their recently proposed ordinance related to “unlawful or social nuisance gatherings.” The decision followed a discussion in which Vice Mayor Pa’tanisha Pierson pushed back against the use of “unruly” in the initial draft. It was the second reading of the ordinance, finalizing it after the previous discussion on May 12, during which they’d directed staff to draft the ordinance that was brought forward and discussed. Burruss said officials were still investigating what chemical or compound was involved. He said the burns happened indoors, though the full circumstances remained under review.
City also appoints member of stormwater board The Oakley City Council voted 4-1 to increase the salary of City Manager Joshua McMurray to $333,596 annually, a 7 percent increase, and to give McMurray a bonus of $15,589, or 5 percent of his then-current salary, for “last year’s performance,” and as a longevity bonus for five years of service, according to City Attorney Derek Cole. Total costs for the salary increase and bonus are $43,400, Cole said. Councilmember George Fuller was the only ‘nay’ vote, saying that the amount “excessive, exorbitant, and unwarranted.” The Oakley City Council also voted 4-1 to approve the Contra Costa Regional Alternative Compliance (RAC) system’s Joint Powers Agreement and appointed Public Works Director and City Engineer Billilee Saengchalern as the city’s member of the RAC system’s Joint Powers Authority board, which governs the system and can levy taxes on developers who join it. City Manager raise and bonus McMurray has been the official City Manager of Oakley since November 2021. Before that, he was the interim City Manager from May to November of the same year and a planner and member of city staff since 2008. The raise

Students hospitalized after chemical accident at Adams Middle School Two students were airlifted to the UC Davis Burn Center last Friday after suffering burns after a class project at Adams Middle School in Brentwood, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District official said. Battalion Chief Brandon Burruss said the students, whose names were not released because they are minors, were in stable condition after the incident. Their parents had been notified. “Today we had a medical emergency involving two students that had suffered a burn while doing a class project,” Burruss said.
