HiEveryone-Asweheadintoanexcitingsummerseason,I’mthrilled to share that renovations at the Antioch Senior Center and Nick RodriguezCommunityCenterarenearlycomplete andwe’relooking forward to welcoming everyone back home very soon While we’ve been temporarily located at the Antioch Community Center and AntiochWaterPark,ithasbeenarewardingexperienceexpandingour programs and connecting with new members on this side of town. We’reproudofthegrowthandnewrelationshipsbuiltduringthistime, and we look forward to continuing select senior programs at the AntiochCommunityCenterevenafterwereturn.

The upcoming improvements bring so much to be excited about, including a new roof, upgraded HVAC system, beautifully renovated restroomsatbothcenters,andarefreshedSeniorCenterDiningHall. These enhancements will allow us to better serve our community, attract new members, and create more opportunities for events, programs, and rentals. With summer just around the corner, registrationwillopeninearlyMayandwillfeatureavarietyofnewtrips, workshops, events, and activities. Be sure to explore our online recreation guide to see everything happeningcitywide. December2026. AnotherBoardmember,LucyMeinhardt,hasresignedduetopersonal reasons.Lucy was a founding Board member of FRIENDS and we will dearly miss her. She said she will still be participating in FRIENDS activities and BINGO at the center.We all wish her well and thank her for her dedicated service to FRIENDS.The Board has appointed Vince McFarland as a Board member and as Co-Chairperson for the Public Relations Committee. His appointment will expire 31 December 2026. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT STEVE

At the Antioch Senior Center, Steve Frediani is making a powerful difference by helping seniors build confidence, strength, and peace of mind through cane-based self-defense. A lifelong martial artist and dedicated Cane-Do instructor,Stevehastrainedsincechildhoodandearnedhisblackbeltbyage 18.Today,hebringsthatpassionandexperiencetoourcommunity,wherehe hasservedasleadinstructorfornearlyeightyears.

Steve’s approach is all about empowerment. His classes are designed specifically for seniors, teaching practical, easy-to-learn techniques using everyday items like canes or walking sticks Inspired by Grand Master Mark Shuey’s Cane-Do system, Steve focuses on real-world application while creatingasafe, welcoming,andencouragingenvironmentforallskilllevels. Classes are held weekly and are hands-on, engaging, and most importantly fun! Participants often notice improvements in their strength, coordination, andconfidencewithinjustafewweeks.Evenmorespecialisthesenseof community that grows in each class, as participants support one another and continue practicing together beyond the classroom. Steve’s dedication truly shines, helping our seniors feel stronger, safer, and more connected.
