The Breman is excited to present Flying Carpet Theatre for the 9th year with performances celebrating Jewish composers from the great American songbook.

In this hybrid of concert and cabaret, performers will tell the fascinating life story of composer, songwriter, and pianist Burt Bacharach. They will perform such classics as “Walk on By,” “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” and “I Say a Little Prayer.”

Artist Bios

Adam Koplan (Writer / Director) is currently serving as the Director of Performing Arts at The Westminster Schools. Adam is the founding artistic director of The Flying Carpet Theatre Company (FCT). Under Adam’s leadership, FCT premiered 24 productions, toured to over 19 states and across Europe. Recent writing commissions: 1001 Nights along with collaborators Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez for Twentieth Century Fox. Some favorite ATL productions as director: The Pitmen Painters, Perfect Arrangement and world premiere of The Dancing Handkerchief — a collaboration between Adam, Robert Lopez, and Geoff Sobellev — all at Theatrical Outfit. 1001 Nights: A Love Story About Loving Stories at Center for Puppetry Arts won two Suzi awards (best TYA production, best TYA ensemble). His production of Alpin Hong: Chasing Chopin appeared at Lincoln Center as well as played for over 11,000 people across the US on tour. His NY production of Rising to the Tap was named “Top 10

Dance-Performance Pieces of 2017” by Huffington Post. Works as adjunct professor at Emory’s Dept. of Theatre teaching “Intro to Directing.” Training: M.F.A. from the University of Washington, B.A. from Swarthmore College. Ecole Jacques Lecoq. Member: Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, Writers Guild of America East.

Greg Sudmeier (Music Direction / Choral and Instrumental Arrangements) founded, contracted, and conducted the Skywalker Symphony at Lucasfilm for many projects such as the Grammy-nominated StarWars Trilogy album with composer, John Williams, as well as albums and films for artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Aaron Neville, Kitaro, Journey, Laurence Rosenthal, Elmer Berstein and Alan Silvestri. Greg has been the Resident Music Director for the Diablo Ballet, CA, Hillbarn Theater, CA, and has also served as Music Director-Conductor for the Fremont Symphony, CA. He has also conducted the San Jose and Oakland Symphonies in California. Greg has toured America as conductor for the San Francisco Festival Pops orchestra, and guest conducted many orchestras around the country. Sammy Davis Jr., BB King, Les McCann, Joe Williams, Manhattan Transfer and many others. A CLIO advertising award winner, Greg is owner and producer for Greg Sudmeier Music Production, working on a wide variety of film, TV and theatrical projects. In Atlanta Greg regularly writes for and performs with the 3rd Stream Big Band and the Joe Gransden Big Band. He and his wife, Lee Foster, reside in beautiful Serenbe, GA, as well as in Columbus, GA.

Christy Baggett (singer) is excited to return to the The Breman for this year’s concert celebrating the music of Burt Bacharach, one of the most influential songwriters of the modern era. For more than two decades, she has been a familiar presence on stages throughout Atlanta, performing with theatre companies including the Alliance Theatre, Horizon Theatre Company, Aurora Theatre, Actor’s Express, Theatrical Outfit, Theater Emory, ART Station, Atlanta Lyric Theatre, Serenbe Playhouse, and Springer Opera House, among others. Favorite Atlanta credits include The Light in the Piazza, Ragtime, Godspell, Hairspray, The Will Rogers Follies, Winter Wonderettes, John & Jen,

Ordinary Days, A Christmas Carol, and Mamma Mia. Recent work includes the developmental musical, The Flirt Bar, featuring music by Amy Ray and Michelle Malone, as well as portraying “Clairee” in Steel Magnolias at Stage Door Theatre this past April. Reeves Wood (singer) recently completed her freshman year at Washington University in St. Louis and is very excited to sing with The Breman for her second year. At WashU, Reeves studies Neuroscience while performing in productions such as Little Shop of Horrors (ensemble) and singing with the Evergreens, the university’s all-treble a cappella group. She thanks her family and friends for their endless support and cannot wait to return as a sophomore in the fall.

Chris Riggenbach (bass) has played with Josh Groban, Matt Catingub, Macon Pops, Jens Lindemann, Joe Gransden, Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Wind Symphony, Jazz Legacy Big Band, Larry Camp, 4th Ward, Afro Klezmer Orchestra, and Gold Sparkle Band, among many others. Other performance credits include many Broadway musicals including Wicked, Cats, Bright Star, The Last Five Years, Grease, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. International performances include a tour in Poland with the Josh Lawrence Jazz 3 and the Chris Riggenbach Trio. With a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in music from Georgia State University, Chris teaches Bass at Emory University and Oglethorpe University. Chris is glad to return as the bassist for this annual concert at The Breman.

Mark Tucker (piano), a jazz pianist from Norcross, has been playing in Atlanta-area big bands and combos for 20+ years. He is currently pianist for the Georgia State (Perimeter) big band in Clarkston. He also fronts, composes, and arranges for the “Mark Tucker Trio.” Mark’s greatest musical influences include Burt Bacharach!

ABOUT FCT

Incorporated in 2003, Adam Koplan (Founding Artistic Director) created The Flying Carpet Theatre Company (FCT) after spending formative time training at Playwrights Horizons in New York City and at Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Over nearly 20 years, The Flying Carpet Theatre Company has created and/ or premiered 20+ original plays including early works by artists who continue to shape the American Theatre such as Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Frozen) and Geoff Sobelle (All Wear Bowlers, The Object Lesson, Elephant Room). We have performed our shows in our home bases of New York, NY and Atlanta, GA and have toured nationally to 15 states, and internationally to Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Prague and Rome.

We generate new theatre that uses American historical stage traditions—physical theatre, circus arts, vaudeville, puppetry, stage magic, cabaret performance, autobiographical storytelling, live music performance, and more — to tell stories about big ideas. American entertainment history reflects the best and worst of our society, and we utilize this tension to investigate flashpoints in our culture. By rooting our work in age-old theatrical forms, we pursue innovative theatrical experiences that connect us to our basic human need for telling stories while inspiring essential, complicated and deep discussion. We are committed to delighting, inspiring and challenging audiences by making performance art in collaborative, communal, non-hierarchical creative spaces and bringing our transformative theatre to communities across the globe.
