„Weiße Rose“ ist der Name der Widerstandsgruppe, zu der Hans und Sophie Scholl gehörten. Der unterschiedliche Aufbau der einzelnen Szenen charakterisiert Udo Zimmermanns Komposition: Dramatisch-visionäre Bilder – z. B. die Erinnerung an ein Kriegserlebnis an der Front, die Angst Sophies vor dem Abtransport der Kinder oder die Vorstellung einer letzten Begegnung mit den Eltern – stehen im Kontrast zu kontemplativen Monologen, die Aufschluss über die eigene Situation geben sollen. Plötzliche Angst, nicht ausgelöst durch die unmittelbar bevorstehende Hinrichtung, sondern vor der Konsequenz des eigenen Handelns verdichtet sich zusammen mit Traumerlebnissen zur Struktur des Stückes, in dem die einzelnen Teile bewusst miteinander verschmelzen. Die verschiedenen Inszenierungen verdeutlichen einerseits die Aktualität des Themas und andererseits, dass hier ein ebenso anspruchsvolles wie praktikables Werk 9 vorliegt.

“Weiße Rose” (White Rose) was the name of the resistance group to which Hans and Sophie Scholl belonged. Udo Zimmermann’s composition is characterized by the varying structure of its scenes: dramatic, visionary scenes, e.g. the remembered wartime experiences on the front, Sophie’s anxiety about the removal of the children and the wish to see her parents one last time, contrast with contemplative monologues that are intended to provide insights into the individual’s particular situation. The composer interweaves into the structure of the piece dream sequences with sudden bursts of anxiety that are not triggered by the execution that is about to take place but by the consequences of one’s own actions. The result is a deliberate fusion of the various parts into one another. The different productions of this work prove that the topic is as important as ever and that the work is both 460230 artistically rewarding and practicable.
