The Palo Alto Unified School District has reached a tentative deal with the teachers’ union, giving them a 10.4% raise and $10,000 in bonuses. The deal ends a year of contentious negotiations — teachers said the district wasn’t valuing them, and the district said teachers were asking for too much.

The district will continue covering 100% of health care for teachers and 90% for their family members. The new contract also makes changes to working conditions. For example, teachers with two grades in one classroom will get a $10,000 stipend. The process for evaluating and disciplining
