Copper Coast

The area is named Copper Coast due to the copper mining heritage of the region dating back to 1859 when copper was first discovered at Wallaroo Mines (Kadina) and Cornish and Welsh miners made their home in Australia’s Little Cornwall. The Kernewek Lowender is a biennial festival in May that celebrates this heritage attracting over 40000 visitors to the area for the week long program of event. As further recognition of our mining heritage the Moonta Mines area has just been awarded with National Heritage status. Great weather, beaches, fabulous fishing and all amenities, including upgraded boat ramps, make this a special place to visit and live. Vibrant commercial and retail opportunities exist to support the local community and those visiting the area. Enjoy a traditional Cornish pasty, coffee and cake or a meal at one of the many cafes, bakeries or restaurants. A wide variety of accommodation options makes the Cooper Coast an ideal place to visit or retire to.
Copper Coast Council continues to develop opportunities for a sustainable community including a Hydrotherapy Pool, Splash Town, Wateroo, re-development of the Copper Coast Sport & Leisure Centre, town main street re-developments and infrastructure improvements. This all contributes to an attractive quality of life, lifestyle and economic opportunities. Sport and leisure are an important part of the community lifestyle with many parks, gardens, playgrounds and sporting facilities within easy access. Enjoy bowls in any weather at the Wallaroo Community Sports Club indoor bowling greens or one of our many other bowling clubs within the Copper Coast. You can enjoy a game of golf on the Greg Norman designed Copperclub Golf Course situated in The Dunes Pt Hughes. The Copper Coast has something for everyone whether it be sea-changing retirees or beach-loving families who often become regular visitors or permanent residents!
2017 Australian Senior Sides Championships
welcome Welcome to the 2017 Australian Senior Sides Championships. On behalf of Bowls Australia, I wish to extend a warm welcome to the players and supporters of the 2017 Australian Senior Sides Championships, being held here in the magnificent Yorke Peninsula. I wish to begin by acknowledging the exemplary support given by the Yorke Peninsula Alliance, District Council of Barunga West, District Council of the Copper Coast and Yorke Peninsula Council in facilitating the staging of this distinguished competition. The Australian Senior Sides Championships is a coveted event on the national bowls calendar, and provides an exciting opportunity to 192 of the sport’s core audience to represent their respective States and Territories Many proven champions are in attendance this week, and as we have witnessed in past Australian Senior Sides Championships, no State or Territory can be overlooked in this test to crown the sport’s best. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Moonta Memorial Bowls Club and Wallaroo Bowls Club for hosting this event and acknowledge the officials and volunteers who ensure events such as this are staged successfully for both participants and supporters. I also extend appreciation and thanks to Bowls SA’s Board and staff for their wonderful assistance in staging this event. Finally, I would like to congratulate each and every one of the players who are present at these championships and wish them the best of luck over the next week.
