Moonta Mines is now a National Heritage site and the unique history of the region’s past is celebrated biennially with the Kernewek Lowender Cornish Festival. The next Festival will be held 13th to 19th May 2019 and will attract over 40000 visitors.

2018 Australian Senior Sides Championships
welcome Welcome to the 2018 Australian Senior Sides Championships. On behalf of Bowls Australia, I wish to extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of the 2018 Australian Senior Sides Championships, being held here at the wonderful Yorke Peninsula for the second consecutive year. I wish to begin by acknowledging the exemplary support given by the Yorke Peninsula Alliance, District Council of the Copper Coast and Yorke Peninsula Council in facilitating the staging of one of Bowls Australia’s most popular events. The Australian Senior Sides Championships provides an exciting opportunity to 192 of the sports core demographic to represent their States and Territories on the national stage. Proven champions are in attendance this week, and as we have witnessed in past events, no State or Territory can be overlooked when searching for the country’s best. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Moonta Memorial Bowls Club and the Wallaroo Bowls Club for hosting this event once again and acknowledge the amazing work of the many volunteers and officials who make championships such as these run smoothly for both the players and spectators. Thank-you to the Bowls SA Board and staff for your assistance in staging another national event in your state. Finally I would like to sincerely congratulate all the competitors who have been selected and wish everyone the best of luck over the course of these championships. Whether you are returning for another year or this is your first time in the Yorke Peninsula I know you will thoroughly enjoy your stay and take the opportunity to explore this wonderful region.
