Engagement for draft OCP underway ALEX KURIAL Editor

OPENING SOON These island theatre practitioners took time out for a photo op outside Collins Hall while rehearsing ‘The Open House,’ American playwright Will Eno’s award-winning play being staged at the Bowen Theatre from June 5 to 7. A dark comedy about a family caught in a vortex of dysfunction and the self-serving group of oddballs who usurp them, (L-R) director Heather Hodson and her cast: Tina Overbury, Trevor Campbell, Annabelle Coon, Calder Stewart & John Parker manage to create both laughter and a collection of awkward and painful moments. Just like in life! The play is produced by Theatre on the Isle. See next week’s Undercurrent for a story on the production. / Marcus Hondro submission

It’s time for the public to once again have their say on the OCP review process. A month-long public engagement period begins today focusing on Bowen’s new Official Community Plan (OCP) draft which was presented to council last week. The document has been under review for the past year via a combination of a first round of public engagement and careful crafting by the OCP Steering Committee. When eventually adopted, the new version will mark the first substantive updates to the plan since 2011. Key among the feedback methods is a survey, available to fill out beginning today, May 22, on the municipal website. Questions are a mix of multiple choice answers along with spaces to write out longer thoughts, and will fall under the umbrella of the main categories featured in the draft. People are welcome to fill out the entire survey, or just part of it if there’s one issue in particular which interests them. Manager of planning Daniel Martin says the survey is designed to be accessible to people who have never read the OCP before, as well as those enthusiasts who have perused the document several times over.

2026 OCP FEEDBACK: SURVEY NOW OPEN Bowen Island Municipality is updating our Official Community Plan. An Official Community Plan, often known as an OCP, is a local government’s overarching guiding document. The Draft OCP is available for public review. This community helped shape this draft and now we’re asking you: did we get it right? Complete the survey before June 22, 2026, to let us know.
