SPIDEY’S AT SEA The Bowen Island Yacht Club season is underway, the group kicking things off in fun fashion with their annual Sail Past last Saturday. Always choosing an engaging theme for the event, this year pitted Superheroes against Villains as the two sides skirmished (via water guns) on the high seas of Mannion Bay. This week saw a big step forward in the Official Community Plan Review process as a draft version of the island’s guiding document was unveiled. Updating the Official Community Plan (OCP) has been a significant undertaking of the municipality (BIM) during the past year. The last review of the plan took place 15 years ago in 2011. An OCP is a formative document which informs all planning decisions in a community, including rezonings, commercial placements, environmental protected areas and more. The draft OCP focuses on six overarching topics, entitled: Island Wide, Environmental Stewardship and Resource Management, Housing for All, Resilient and Circular Economy, Sustainable Transportation and Mobility, and Community Vitality. Within these lie six key directions, specific areas where the current draft OCP differs from the 2011 version. CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
