An RCMP investigation resulted in the arrest of Bowen Island man Michael Scoretz on Thursday, June 4. The federal investigation, led by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), has produced 13 charges against Scoretz. Six of these counts are for Unauthorized Communication of Special Operational Information contrary to the Security of Information Act (SOIA), and a further seven counts are for breach of trust. Scoretz, 47, is a former RCMP officer who was a member of INSET. It is alleged work-related materials were found at his home and that he shared protected and/or classified materials with a person he was in a relationship with. These offences are alleged to have taken place between August 2020 and February 2023 while Scoretz was a member of the INSET team. As an INSET officer he was bound to secrecy under the SOIA. Scoretz retired from the RCMP in 2025 after a 16-year career. CONTINUED ON PAGE 8
