A LIFESAVING ANSWER FOR ISABELLA

Isabella was born with a hole in her heart and chronic blockages in her veins that slowed blood and oxygen flow. Ten years ago, it would have been fatal. But trailblazing research and teamwork between heart, lung and cancer experts at Boston Children’s changed that and saved her life.

After 10 months of exceptional care at the hospital, Isabella went home with her family. Now 2, she is a joyful toddler with a healthy future ahead of her.

A HEART TRANSPLANT BREAKTHROUGH FOR JACK

After three surgeries, it was clear that baby Jack’s aortic valve could not be repaired. Although the rest of his heart was strong, the faulty valve was blocking blood flow to the rest of his body. Luckily, protocols for a partial heart transplant were pioneered by Boston Children’s eight years before and Jack was an ideal patient.

At 4, he became the first child in New England to receive a donor valve that will grow with the healthy parts of his own heart and minimize the need for future surgeries. Now 6, Jack is thriving at home with his family in New Jersey.
