BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP.... Serves residents within the city limits of Belvidere as well as the approximately 9,000 residents that reside outside the city limits. Belvidere Township has 79 miles of road, 73 subdivisions with approximately 120 cul-de-sacs and 4 subdivision pending outside the city limits of Belvidere. Belvidere Township is involved in many programs throughout the year. We sponsor a Shred Day Program to destroy unwanted documents each Spring. We provide a drug collection site for unused and outdated medicines in the summer. In 2012 local voters authorized Belvidere Township to negotiate electric rates for residents and small businesses in the township. For your safety Belvidere Township has five tornado sirens. The sirens will use the following tones to indicate weather warnings. These are used in Boone County. Neighboring communities may have other signals. Regular testing is the first Tuesday of each month. Steady Tone: When the tornado siren goes off with a steady tone, and sounds for three (3) minutes (that is a long time), it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted in the area. Go to the basement or nearest tornado shelter. Tornado Watches: There is no siren signal for a tornado watch. If you get this message over the television or other media, it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado watch. Conditions are right for the formation of a tornado, but none has been sighted. Be alert for the warning siren.

THE BELVIDERE IOU CLUB was established in 1924 by twenty downtown businessmen to engage in charitable activities involving Belvidere/ Boone County children. THE BELVIDERE ROTARY CLUB, established in 1920, is one of the oldest and most prominent fraternal and social organizations in Boone County. Rotarian service focuses on strengthening fellowship, vocational service, community service and international service encompassing actions to expand Rotary’s humanitarian outreach. The Belvidere Rotary Club supports over 30 local and international charitable causes. The Club has developed a Global Project supporting a preschool program in Morocco and last year sponsored a North Boone student for a one year exchange program in South Korea. Club members meet every Wednesday at Noon. From May through October they meet at the Belvidere American Legion and from November through April at the Belvidere Family YMCA. Appleton Road, Belvidere, IL, operates with a mission of preserve and manage natural resources and open spaces for ecological, educational and recreational benefits of present and future generations. Since its creation in 1964, the district has preserved more than 3,000 acres of parks, trails, and preserves. Features include 900 acres in the Kishwaukee River Valley, 800 acres in picnic areas and conservation areas, over 30 miles of hiking, biking trails, including 15 miles of the Long Prairie Trail which stretches across northern Boone County. The Nature Center/Visitor’s Center, open year round, is utilized by schools and the public. It includes a summer day camp, public programs, and distribution of a newsletter. On site there is a historic trail which includes two historic log cabins as well as an herb garden, a butterfly garden & a rain garden, which peak with the annual Autumn Pioneer Festival held the fourth full weekend of September. The Boone County Council on Aging is a multipurpose agency dedicated to all older adults, their families and their caregivers by reaching out with programs to help enrich and improve their quality of life. Services include: Computer lab, educational programs, information and assistance, in-home care, medical car escort, nutrition programs, outreach, public transportation, recreational and social programs and volunteer opportunities. Support groups include Diabetes Self Management, Low Vision, Parkinson’s, Caregivers, Grief and Veteran’s Club. A limited variety of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, bath chairs, and other assistance devices are available through the Lending Closet. Educational programs such as To Your Health, Memory Café, My Decisions, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, Chef on the Run, Smart Drivers are offered throughout the year. People of all ages are invited to this facility. Services of the Boone County Council on Aging are made available, in part, with funds provided under Title III-B and Title III-E of the Older Americans Act, GAP Filling Funds, and the Illinois General Revenue Funds through Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. Funding for transportation is received through a Section 5311 grant with Boone County from the Illinois Department of Transportation and Downstate Operation Assistance Program funds through Rockford Mass Transit District. Funds for transportation are also provided by the State of Illinois Donated Funds Initiative from Title XX of the Social Security Act administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department on Aging. Reimbursement is received from the Illinois Department on Aging for services provided under the Community Care Program. Funding is additionally provided by Boone County, the City of Belvidere, Belvidere Township, Poplar Grove Township, Bonus Township, Flora Township, Boone Township, Spring Township, Caledonia Township, Manchester Township, and the United Way of Boone County. A significant portion of the BCCA budget is derived from contributions from individuals, groups, clients, users and fundraising projects. View our ad on page 26. BOONE COUNTY FAIR: Country Star Trace Adkins will be headlining the 2018 Boone County Fair, 8847 Rt. 76, Belvidere on Saturday, August 11th at 8 PM. The six fair runs from Tuesday, August 7th through Sunday, August 12th. The fair features the Queen and Little Miss Pageant Tuesday evening in front of the grandstand. Wednesday evening features the Diesel Pickup Truck Shoot Out Challenge. Tractor Pulls all day Thursday with Super Tractor & Truck Pull Thursday evening. Friday evening is the Professional Bull Riding event with Muttin Busting. And the fair wraps up Sunday with two Demo Derbies at 1 PM & 6 PM. Enjoy a huge fairgrounds packed with free entertainment, hundreds of exhibits, champion livestock, vendors of all types, thrill rides and games, and fair food galore. All show tickets go on sale at the fairgrounds ticket office at Gate 1 at 8 AM, Saturday, July 7th. Trace Adkins tickets are on sale now online at our website. During your visit to the museum, you will see artifacts and exhibits relating to the history of local agriculture, industry, and economy. Page 45 THE BOONE COUNTY GARDENERS OF AMERICA have been beautifying Belvidere and Boone County since 1955. We are a group of men and women who share a passion for gardening. Our service projects include planting and/or maintaining the Boone County Fairgrounds, the butterfly garden at the Boone County Conservation District, plantings at Culvers Restaurant, and the flower urns on Main Street in Belvidere. In addition, we give scholarships each year to a Belvidere and North Boone School District senior. Club meetings include a program on gardening and are held on the 4th Tuesday in February through October at 2:30 PM at the Boone County Conservation District Education Center, 603 Appleton Road, Belvidere. Fundraisers for our scholarships include a plant sale in early May and a 6:00 PM public plant auction at the Boone County Fairgrounds on the 4th Tuesday in May. CANDLEWICK LAKE ASSOCIATION, INC. 13400 Highway 76, Poplar Grove (6 miles north of Belvidere on Highway 76), is a private residential community. Madison), was established in 1883 when General Allen Fuller donated $5,000 to the city to establish a library in memory of his daughter, Ida.
