DID YOU KNOW?.... For your safety Belvidere Township has five tornado sirens. The sirens will use the following tones to indicate weather warnings. These are used in Boone County. Neighboring communities may have other signals. Regular testing is the first Tuesday of each month. Steady Tone: When the tornado siren goes off with a steady tone, and sounds for three (3) minutes (that is a long time), it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted in the area. Go to the basement or nearest tornado shelter. Tornado Watches: There is no siren signal for a tornado watch. If you get this message over the television or other media, it means the Weather Bureau has issued a tornado watch. Conditions are right for the formation of a tornado, but none has been sighted. Be alert for the warning siren.
