Pledge 3 - Appleton Road Overpass As your Mayor, I will take every opportunity to improve Belvidere living. Our employment base and public safety are key concerns. We are all aware, and weary of, the Appleton Road traffic snarl. Supplier semi-trailers, Fiat Chrysler employees, school buses, fire trucks, ambulances, grain trucks and Belvidere residents are all hostage to train traffic daily. It is time we construct an overpass.

Our current Mayor burdened Belvidere residents with a 5-cent gas tax just weeks prior to the State doubling their gas tax grab from 19-cents to 38-cents with a built-in cost of living increase each July. Additionally, the Federal tax rate on gasoline is 18.3cents. Using these funds, Illinois promised to spend $275 million for Chicago to Rockford Amtrak service, passing right across Appleton Road. As Mayor, I will insist THAT funding is sensibly used for this long overdue investment in supporting our employment assets and our emergency response needs. A win for Belvidere taxpayers, employers, employees, public safety and residents.

Norma L. Allen, 70, of Belvidere, IL died on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at home. She was born on November 9, 1950 in San Diego, CA. The daughter of William H. Fisher and Mable Ann (Carson) Fisher. She married Donald J. Allen on September 28th, 1973. They were married for 47 years. They had 2 children; daughter, Maythy (Allen) Stott and son, Michael Allen who she loved with all her heart. Norma retired from RB Manufacturing after 38 years. She loved spending time with here grand and great grandchildren. She liked to garden, grow plants and flowers. Norma is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Maythy and son, Michael (Angie); four grandchildren, Austin, Hunter (Alexis) Stott, Jonathon and Faith Allen. Four great-grandchildren, Freya, Lily and Ava Stott & Liam Allen; mother-in-law, Beverly Schuelke; siblings, Margaret Cassidy, Robert (Mike) Fisher and Gene Radin. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Fisher Jr. and brother-in-law, Kevin Cassidy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The Board of Directors of the Boone County Council on Aging thanks the many people who made possible administering this past week over 2,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to many of the sixty-five-and-over residents of Boone County. Among those who deserve special recognition are Amanda Mehl, Boone County Public Health Administrator and her staff; Kelly Hillan, Executive Director of the Boone County Council on Aging and her staff; Meijer Pharmacy; Brent Anderson, Belvidere Director of Public Works; the Belvidere Police Department; and the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. We are also grateful for the many volunteers who supported the effort. Also appreciated is the patience of the many who received the vaccine. The process was at times frustrating as some stood in line in uncomfortable conditions to enter the Keen Age Center and then had to deal with the process associated with checking in and providing the necessary information to allow the vaccine to be administered. Thank you to all, and we are looking forward to the time we can reopen the Keen Age Center and resume offering all of our many services.
