As you will have seen from Mr Britton’s email on Monday, I will be moving on at the end of the academic year into a different role, working with adults at Salford College. I would like to thank you all for the warm welcome you have given me this year and for your kind understanding over the last few days. I would like to thank the Park Road staff for their dedication in all that they do for the school. I have received incredible support from Mrs Faulkner, Mr Britton and the wider leadership team and I have no doubt that the school will continue to flourish. It has been a pleasure working with you and your boys and I am confident that the school will continue to provide the very best education and experiences moving ahead. As I have done throughout the year, I will continue to work closely with Mrs Faulkner over the coming weeks. Mrs Faulkner already has a clear understanding of the school but she may be more present in the coming weeks and any matters pertaining to next year should be directed to her. We still have four and a half very busy weeks ahead and the staff and I remain very much determined to ensure that we have an amazing final half term of the year. It will be business as usual and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. MHIST, part of Parent Peer Support, is offering drop-in sessions for parents whose children are currently experiencing mental health difficulties. If parents come along on any of these sessions, they will be able to access guidance on support available in the local area.

There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances. The clear sense of the guidance is that ‘exceptional’ also means rare and certainly not due to the planning of flights and other logistical arrangements. Permission must be granted in advance, so a letter on the day of the absence or a call as a holiday is extended cannot be authorised. This is why such absence is recorded as ‘unauthorised’.
