It seems fitting to start with a brief, but much needed, mention of last week’s performances of Aladdin. The Year 6 boys rose to the occasion over three performances and put on a terrific show for us all—we may have some stars of the future amongst our ranks. I would like to thank all staff who supported the show and everyone who came along to watch, but I reserve special mention for the Year 6 team comprising Mrs Brisk, Mr Porter, Mr Livesley and Mrs Hunt. Also, a special thanks to the Chair of our Parents’ Association, Mrs Jones, who valiantly manned the refreshments stall each evening. Today, we held our annual Prize Giving ceremony and Sports Day. We ended the day with a House round-up, as well as awarding some final sporting awards. It was an energetic and positive way to end the day, the week, the term and the academic year! Congratulations go to Lever House, who are both our Merit Winners and Champion House this year! Sports Day results:1st Dobson, 2nd Lever, 3rd Crompton and 4th, Chadwick. Champion House: 1st Lever, 2nd Dobson, 3rd Crompton and 4th, Chadwick. Well done, everyone! It has been an incredibly busy year and each and every one of the boys have risen to the many challenges put before them. There has been much growth, academically and personally, and this is a moment to thank all of the adults in the boys’ lives for their support and encouragement. First of all, I would like to thank our parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties etc who are very much instrumental in the day-to-day logistics of school life: the to-ing and fro-ing; the washing and ironing; the organisation of homework, resources and much, much more. Without your support, little could be achieved. I would like to thank you all for your warmth and the many cards, gifts and kind words I have received over the last week. Secondly, I would like to thank the staff at Park Road, who create such an amazing experience for the boys. Their hard work and dedication create a thriving atmosphere in which the boys flourish. We wish Mr Winstanley well as he heads off on a new adventure to teach in Norway and bid a fond, and somewhat, sad farewell to Mr Duxbury, who retires today. Thank you to the very many parents who have given so generously to his retirement collection. I have used that to present him today with a small hawthorn tree, which is said to embody wisdom and inspiration, which sums up the impact Mr Duxbury has had on the boys over his many years of service to the school. There is also the small matter of a sizeable cheque with which, I am reliably informed, he will treat himself to a new fishing rod which he has long coveted. Good luck, Mr Duxbury. Thank you to all Primary Division parents and children who have helped to raise over £12,000 for the Foundation’s Malawi Appeal. It is not too late to add donations if you haven’t already done so. My very best wishes to the boys and families leaving Park Road today, I wish you all very well. For everyone else, I look forward to seeing you on Thursday 5th September.
