Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 3rd May

Spring Term, 2023 — WEEK A

Last Thursday, we held our annual Open Evening where we enjoyed welcoming many visitors and prospective families to Park Road. I should like to give a particular thanks to the Year 6 boys who were absolutely fantastic when showing families around school. Many of our visitors were very impressed by how knowledgeable and enthusiastic they were. Our final Patterdale Hall trips are about to take place, with Year 3 heading out tomorrow and returning at 6pm on Friday 5th May and our Year 6s heading out next Tuesday 9th May and returning on Friday 12th May. Tomorrow, a few of our boys from our Eco Committee will join other Primary Foundation students and head over to brighten the gardens of our local hospice. Today, as part of the Primary Foundation, our boys were filmed singing a special King’s Coronation song. The performance is part of our celebrations this week, which will culminate on Friday. We will have a Coronation- themed PA Breakfast Club at 8am on Friday 5th May, as well as a celebration and special assembly after lunch. I should like to remind you that boys can come to school dressed in red, white and blue on Friday as part of these celebrations. This evening sees our inaugural Hulton Lecture. Our guest speaker, Rob Dobson, has spent time in the Foundation, looking at the learning that takes place and getting a better understanding of our school. We hope to see many of you in attendance after school today. In collaboration with Bolton Together and Bolton Council, Fortalice is delivering workshops for children, young people (8 years to 11 years) and their parents/carers on how to keep safe online. The workshops are for children and parents/carers to attend together. Please see the flyer linked here for more detail.

Message from Mrs Faulkner- Head of Primary Foundation There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances. The clear sense of the guidance is that ‘exceptional’ also means rare and certainly not due to the planning of flights and other logistical arrangements. Permission must be granted in advance, so a letter on the day of the absence or a call as a holiday is extended cannot be authorised. This is why such absence is recorded as ‘unauthorised’.
