Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 24th May

Spring Term, 2023 — WEEK A

The warm weather arrived this week and it was great to see the boys playing football on the field and cricket on the yard. As Summer is now upon us, I would suggest that boys do apply sunscreen before coming to school and ideally have a small bottle in their bags to apply before heading out in the afternoons. It is also vitally important that water bottles are brought in each day.

EXAM WEEK Wednesday 24th May Careers Carousel. (Y6), 12.30—3.45pm, GD Cubs, 6.30pm Thursday 25th May Jujitsu, 4-5.30pm LAMDA, 4-5pm Cubs, 6.30pm

Of course, the sun always seems to arrive when exams are taking place! This week, our boys are completing end of year exams in some of their subjects. There were a few nerves on Monday, but cheery faces were visible when break time came around. We only have two more days of assessments, but I would encourage you to ensure your son has an especially good night’s sleep for these two days and our big event on Friday. Only two more sleeps until our annual fancy dress Fun Run. The boys should come to school in uniform and bring their costumes in a bag, ready to get changed after lunch and head to the levels at Senior School. Please make sure your son has his water bottle with him, as well as sun cream, as it looks like the weather will be on our side for the Run. We look forward to seeing many of you there. Please note: parents will not be allowed on site until 2.15 pm as Senior School is still on lunch at that time. We aim to start our run at 2.20pm. A further copy of the sponsor form is linked here. Our PA will be selling drinks and refreshments at the event. please do drop any cake donations into the Park Road Office on Friday morning. As a fun holiday task, we would like to set the boys the challenge of designing our new Celebration Certificates. The best designs will be used on certificates presented in our Celebration Assemblies each week. We are looking for colourful and imaginative designs. The deadline for entries will be Monday 5th June. A template can be found on Showbie and final designs can be posted onto the Whole School Showbie page or handed in to form teachers. The designs can be electronic or hand drawn. I will explain the competition to the boys on Friday! I wish you all a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you in the final half term of the year! Message from Mrs Faulkner- Head of Primary Foundation

Friday 26th May Charity Fun Run, 2.15pm, Senior School Lower Levels BREAK UP FOR HALF TERM

There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances. The clear sense of the guidance is that ‘exceptional’ also means rare and certainly not due to the planning of flights and other logistical arrangements. Permission must be granted in advance, so a letter on the day of the absence or a call as a holiday is extended cannot be authorised. This is why such absence is recorded as ‘unauthorised’.
