Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 1st May

Spring Term, 2024 — WEEK B

From Mrs. Faulkner From the photos on Twitter, it looks as if the Year 6 boys are having an amazing time up at Patterdale Hall. They seem to be getting stuck into all of their various activities and reports from staff are that they are working well as a team and supporting one another through each and every challenge, whether that is the physicality of the activities or just getting themselves organised for the day ahead. Next week, it will be the turn of Year 3 who I know are all very excited about the trip.

Wednesday 1st May AJIS Cross Country, Rossall School, all day Squad Development Swimming, 4pm Cubs, 6.30—7.45pm Thursday 2nd May LAMDA, 4pm Jujitsu, 4pm Y5 /Y6 Football Tournament, Seniors, 4pm Cubs, 6.30—7.45pm Friday 3rd May U10 Cricket vs MGS, 1.45pm (H) Y6 return from Patterdale, 3.55pm Fencing, 4-5pm (collection BH) NO WATER POLO Hockey 4-5pm

Thank you very much indeed to Akela (aka Mrs Hough) and her fantastic team of volunteers who provided our Cubs with an amazing Camp this weekend. This was their first camp at the seaside and what a great time they had. The sandcastles which were built were quite something to behold. Hulton Lecture—next Tuesday, 7th May, we will be holding the now annual Hulton Lecture. This fascinating event is compulsory for all Year 6 pupils but all parents are welcome to attend and bring along their younger children if they wish. The event begins at 5pm in the Boys’ Division Great Hall and will last for approximately one hour, with refreshments available in the Leverhulme Suite afterwards. This year’s lecture is being given by old girl Alisha Whitehead. After leaving School in 2011, Alisha gained her first degree in Psychology and went on to complete a Masters of Science in Clinical Neurology at The University of Sheffield. She went on to work in the NHS delivering clinical trials to patients affected by neurological diseases, this saw her progress into research trial management. Alisha’s current role allowed her to become the centre manager for a new brain research centre spanning Greater Manchester. The centre looks to rapidly facilitate bench to bedside clinical trials and to have a direct impact on patient care and patient pathways, for those living with neurological disorders. WhatsApp and Social Media—School has recently been made aware of the existence of WhatsApp groups of which some pupils are members. Unfortunately, some of these have been used inappropriately and have contained content causing grave concern. As you know, pupils do not have access to their phones whilst in school and this is not something that would be monitored by school staff. Outside of school hours, it is parents’ responsibility to safeguard their children. However, this presents an opportunity to remind parents that school would strongly advise against pupils using platforms that are unsuitable for their age. This helps to protect them from the possibility of becoming a victim of abuse and prevents them from having underage access to a platform which can lead to inappropriate use. We encourage parents to regularly monitor and check any device that their child has access to, in order to safeguard their children appropriately. For clarity, there are some details on the WhatsApp terms of use below: You must be at least 13 years old (or such greater age required). Please refer to our Terms of Service for more information. Note: Creating an account with false information is a violation of our Terms. Registering an account on behalf of someone who is underage is also a violation of our Terms.
