Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 5th October
Autumn Term, 2022 — WEEK A
From Mr. King Children’s ability to read is often cited as a predictor for children’s future success. At Park Road, much is done to encourage and teach reading including ECAs, regular reading opportunities, library lessons and, of course, English lessons. However, there is nothing quite like the inspiration of meeting real life authors.

Last week, our boys had the opportunity to listen to Cressida Cowell live! She provided a lively talk explaining how she came to be an author. She also talked about her books and some of the characters she had created. More details can be found overleaf. Next week, our boys will have another opportunity to hear from children’s author, Lenny Henry. He will be discussing his books “The Boy With Wings” and “The Book of Legends” in a live broadcast via Zoom. We will purchase our own set of books for school but those who are interested are also welcome to purchase from bookstores and online marketplaces. On Saturday 8th October, we will be opening our doors to the public from 9.30am for our annual Open Morning. As ever, we are always grateful for the support of boys, who help out in so many different ways. If you know of any families that you think might be interested in learning more about us, do please alert them to the event. We are asking that enquirers pre-register their attendance at: boltonschool.org/openday. As we move into the darker Autumnal days, extra vigilance is required around the roads. Please remind your son, as we will, that he must cross Park Road with Barry (our lollipop man) and, where appropriate, Dobson Road with Sergeants and not elsewhere. It is also important that you continue to drop the boys off in safe places, however tempting it is to try and get as near to the doors as possible in the dark and wet mornings. Can I also please remind you not to use West Street to drop off and pick up your son? We have discussed road safety with the boys in our weekly assembly and they showed a clear understanding of the rules. We will be holding our Harvest Festival Assembly on Wednesday 12th October. please find linked here a list of suggested donations from Urban Outreach. Due to restrictions on the number of people we can safely accommodate in the Hall, we invite Year 3 parents and any parents new to school to this special assembly. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be served in the Dining Room from 8.15am. Please continue to send in your donations (no fresh produce, please), which we give to local charity, Urban Outreach, as part of their Winter Watch project after the event. Please ensure that all donations are well within the expiry date as they may not be used immediately. Thank you for all the generous donations to date. SK
