An NCP multistorey carpark is located at the back of the College, of which the College has 220 parking spaces allocated on a first come, first serve basis. A car park pass can be obtained from the People & Culture department on your first day of employment and instructions on how to use the pass will be shared with you by a member of the People & Culture team. Please note that your initial car pass will be provided free of charge, however if this is lost or broken during your time at the College, you will be required to pay a £10 fee for a replacement.
All of our staff will have a local induction with their line manager. Academic Staff will be introduced to the Bolton way of Teaching.
This will include an introduction to the following systems:
• Pro Monitor - To log information about the Learner Journey
• Power BI - To monitor compliance of curriculum areas

The College has a staff intranet which can be accessed by opening the web browser. The staff intranet is used to communicate internally with staff members about updates and events. On the intranet you can also access various services such as the helpdesk portal, EveryHR, eBIS and Selima online pay where you can view your payslips.
You will receive a copy of your job description and the terms and conditions of your employment. Please keep these for reference. If you have any questions regarding your terms and conditions of service, contact the People & Culture Department who will be able to advise you on matters relating to your employment.
The College has a range of policies and procedures covering key areas and issues. All policies and procedures are available on the College intranet under: Intranet/Human Resources/HR Policies. You should take your time to familiarise yourself with the policies and procedures which apply to you during your employment with the College. If you require further advice or guidance regarding a specific matter, please contact a member of the People & Culture team who will be happy to help.
There are recognised trade unions representing both teaching and support staff; the representatives of which have an active role in the consultation and negotiation processes within the College. The unions recognised for teaching staff are University and College Union (UCU) and National Education Union (NEU). For support staff, the trade union recognised is UNISON.
Bolton College recognises and works with three Trade Unions:
• UCU: Suzi Toole, Sharon Core, Laura O’Hare, Joanne Kay and Ben Stanier
• NEU: Mike Pevitt
Contact details and further information are available on the College website.

The information below is designed to help you settle in and signpost you to additional information.
All Bolton College staff members are required to complete mandatory training upon commencement of their employment. A full list of the mandatory training modules can be found under the Staff Development Zone on the intranet as shown below. Please note some modules will expire after a certain period of time and may need to be renewed during your employment at the College. Throughout the year there will be Staff Development Days which you will be required to attend.

As well as mandatory sessions, a range of other training sessions will be organised across the year and staff can request to attend these sessions by clicking on ‘Book on an event’ (subject to availability).

It is College policy that a nine-month probationary period is served by all new entrants of the College recruited on a permanent basis or on a temporary contract which is expected to last for at least 9 months. During this time your continued suitability for the position to which you have been appointed will be assessed and reviewed with you after three, six and nine months at the College. If you successfully complete your probationary period, you will receive written confirmation of this from the People & Culture department.
The College believes it is important to monitor and review the progress of new starters to ensure you receive the necessary support and training to be able to achieve your potential and to address any issues at the earliest possible stage. The probationary period should be a two-way process where you can also share how you are settling into the role, the College, the team and if there is any extra training or support you feel you may require.
The College recognises that the successful attainment of its strategic objectives depends directly on the quality and commitment of its staff. In support of this, the College has developed a Staff Appraisal Scheme from which you will be required to participate. Appraisals are delivered between August and September on an annual basis.
The Scheme at the College is based on an open two-way dialogue between appraisers and appraisee, which reviews personal objectives, achievements and work performance in post over the previous 12 months, whilst setting objectives for the forthcoming year. Appraisals are also an opportunity for you and your line manager to identify any training requirements which can then be further discussed with the Training and Development Manager.
The scheme is applicable to all staff once they have completed their probationary period.

You are expected to work flexibly and efficiently, to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College and play an active role in our College culture. You may from time to time be asked to support with College events such as student enrolment, student examination days, open evenings and other promotional events. If you work above your contractual working hours to support in these events, you should discuss with your line manager whether you would like to be paid for additional hours or take the time off in lieu (TOIL).
Prior to starting with the College, the IT Services department will set up your log in access details to your IT account. On your first day of employment, you will need to visit IT Services located in room A2.12 with your line manager to receive your Staff ID badge. Once this process has been completed, your login details to your IT account will be issued by the IT Department and these will be sent to your personal email address.
For your first time using the printer you will also need to enter these same login details on the screen of the printer in order to sync it to your account. After this, you should be able to scan your staff badge on the contactless reader and it will login to your print account automatically. There are multiple printers located around the College and on each floor, please speak to your line manager
to find out where the closest one to you is located. There are instructions located on the wall at each printer which will guide you on how to print, copy and scan documents. Alternatively, you can search for these instructions on the Staff Intranet page.
Staff
The College uses Every HR as its central People & Culture Information management system. Through Every HR, you can easily update personal details, view your job and salary information, and submit leave requests, including both annual leave and special leave. The system provides a secure and convenient way to keep your employment information up to date and to access important People-related details at any time. All staff are encouraged to log in regularly to ensure their information remains accurate and current.
Every HR is a cloud-based system which does not require a password to access. In order to access it you will just need to be logged into your College IT account, launch Every HR through the services in the Staff Intranet and input your college 365 email address (please ensure you ask IT for this information on your first day). You will then need to click ‘Login with Office 365’.

Bolton College promotes a positive and healthy worklife balance, and recognises the importance of annual leave in achieving this. Annual leave renews each academic year for all staff and runs for the period of 1st September-31st August. The annual leave entitlements for staff are as follows:
• Support Staff - 28 days - rises to 33 days after 5 years continuous service (pro rata for part time)
• Academic Staff - 37 days (pro rata for part time)
Prior to booking any annual leave, you must seek approval from your line manager. It is important to give reasonable notice to line managers when requesting annual leave. It may not be practicable for line managers to approve annual leave at specific times in the College’s calendar i.e., due to special activities or events, enrolment times, peak periods etc. These times may vary across the different departments. Any annual leave requests must be submitted through EveryHR by accessing the ‘My Leave’ section and then clicking ‘Request holiday,’ this will then sit with the line manager to approve once submitted.
Additional Information regarding annual leave expectations:
• Academic staff are allowed to book blocks of 4 weeks’ annual leave at a time (maximum).
• All staff are expected to return to work from summer the week of GCSE results day/start of School Leaver Enrolment to assist with the enrolment process.
• Academic staff are also expected to remain in College for the week following the end of the academic year for Staff Development workshops.

The College recognises that staff may require time off for unforeseen personal matters such as personal, medical, or compassionate reasons. This leave will be classed as Compassionate Leave.
• Covers urgent and unforeseen personal matters
• Requires management approval and is processed through EveryHR
• They can be with or without pay
• Further details can be found in the Leave of Absence Policy on the intranet

If your absence exceeds 7 calendar days, you will be required to submit a fit note to the People & Culture Department – you can do so by emailing people@boltoncc.ac.uk. As an employee of the College you are entitled to company sick pay however the amount you are entitled to is dependant on length of service, with 5 years’ service maximum sick pay entitlement. More information regarding this can be found under the Management of Attendance policy located on the Staff Intranet.
When you return to work, you will be required to attend a Return-to-Work interview with your manager to discuss the absence in more detail and if any support can be provided by your manager to facilitate your return to work.
