Welcome to the Associates bull sale. The Associates represent a lot of breeds but the goal of raising top quality, profitable, functional cattle is our common ground. It was a tough year around here for cattle as we lacked rain and pastures fell behind. It truly was a challenge for the cow herd but was a testament to what they could produce. In the drought of 2000 we knew changes in the type of cow we had needed to be done. We focused on building a more moderate, easy fleshing, low maintenance type of Maine cow. I work off the farm full time so I don’t have time to deal with cows that can’t calve on their own and calves that can’t get up and suck. The bulls we have in this sale represent a low maintenance, highly maternal Maine Anjou cow herd. Our cows work for us, we don’t work for them. Many of our sale bulls pedigrees are outcross sired by our herd bulls in the pen right next to them. We welcome you to stop by the farm to have a look any time. Welcome to another edition of the Associates bull and heifer sale. This group of consignors have put together top quality bulls and heifers from multiple breeds. If you are in need of a cow bull, heifer bull or one for both im sure you will find what you need somewhere in this catalog. There is also a top set of replacement heifers on offer. The gelbvieh bulls and heifers we have consigned are very very consistent. All of our offering is sired by the ULL Road trip 5H bull that we purchased from Loren Unger a few years back. If you have a lot of cows to breed and want the uniform calf crop, take a good look at these guys, all half brothers and even a couple of ¾ brothers. With prices the way they are it is a great time to change out your older bull battery on some new blood or to add some extra insurance in case you have a bull go down mid season. I personally need to thank a multitude of people who have done all of the work these past few years, John and Tammy, Kevin and Christel, Dwayne and Paula have went above and beyond what I would expect any one to do, and have done it exceptionally well. Lance and Karyn Neilson have tended the cows and calves and are doing an amazing job, if you haven’t heard of what the Neilson family is all about check them out on social media, “Neilson Beef ”. They have been working with Olds college on a cool heifer development study and program with some cool results. Kale Gist has been feeding the bulls this winter and they are being developed properly with longevity in mind and as you can see Kale and his crew have them looking great. JM Your Golden 62Y or more commonly know as “Grandma” has done it again, but that should not be much of a surprise as she has put one in the keeper pen of heifers or had a bull in the sale almost every year. Not many cows at the age of 12 can say that. As I write this, she hasn’t calved yet, but come sale time I’m sure she will have at over 13 years old. Twisted Sisters Livestock are two sisters who share a common interest in cattle. They began this joint venture after years of being in the barns and involved in 4H raising, showing, and fitting cattle. There operating principal is that cattle need to be easy fleshing sound and functional regardless of breed or color. Meghan is currently living in Kansas with her husband Jim and twin daughters Rainey and Tilley. When not busy with her family she enjoys Livestock Photography. Brianna grew up being involved in 4H and Jr. Associations where she was inspired and caught the show bug. She is now working as a Grain Originator for Parrish and Heimbecker while still enjoying getting the show and sale cattle ready. Their herd has grown, and they have sold some seedstock to some industry leaders and are proud of the attention they have received for being small producers. “Quality over Quantity” is the team motto. Twisted Sisters Livestock brings together two sister’s love of cattle and the purebred industry. They are striving to produce seedstock that will go to work in the field yet still pretty enough to hang a halter on. This is their 2nd year with bulls in “The Associate’s Bull Sale” and are proud to be a part of this sale with such a great group of progressive breeders.
