The acquisition of powerful walking bulls and utilization of industry leading AI studs has left all three operations some of the stoutest and most marketable bulls we annually see. The Future Legends group made up of B Bar C, Spruce View and Starwest bring you some of the most powerful, high performing bulls each spring in both yearling and extra age packages with a great blend of cow bulls and calving ease bulls available. Sale Welcome As I sit here writing this, we are in the season of gratitude and spending time with family. Man, what a year to be grateful for! Record breaking cattle prices, enough forage for the next couple years, and an extremely mild winter. I find it rather rewarding to look back at previous catalogues to see not only our progress but to analyze the industry’s trends and the growing seasons and this is a year I find quite pleasant to reflect upon! Another year where Chris, Tracy and I are extremely proud to offer our best progeny with each of us having diverse programs that complement the next to put together a strong, successful sale. For the first time in our sale history, we will be offering registered heifers directly out of our replacement pens. These will be in addition to the packages of commercial heifers that are paternal siblings to the bulls on offer. Generational differences between us often make me chuckle when I ask “what’s new and exciting this year!” Excitement doesn’t always have to come from big events such as buying land or getting married but can come from stability and continued success. The old saying goes something along the lines of “It’s the little things that count the most.” For myself personally, we had another exciting year with Lance and I getting married on August 26th and buying more land for us to continue with our cattle addiction. Chris’s excitement was having a healthy calf crop during astonishing cattle prices along with a 130bu/ac barley crop. Tracy’s excitement was growing the herd again to right around 200 head. If you haven’t noticed, all of our excitement is fueled from being a part of the Agriculture industry. With that, I warmly welcome you to our Fifth Annual Simmental Bull Sale! As a group, we offer a wide variety of genetics; whether it be calving ease, performance, polled or horned, we have it all. We continue to deeply thank our repeat customers and welcome those who are new. All our programs reflect our support systems whether it be friends or family, and for that we are eternally grateful. “Kash” is the perfect definition of a steady and consistent developing bull who always looks the part. A more moderate framed bull, Starwest Pol Kash is a heavily pigmentated Kalibre son whos out of a dark red Shooter daughter. I really admire the pedigree of this bull and have no doubt “Kash’s” daughters will land themselves in the replacement pen. His dam, Starwest Pol Hayden is a large framed, extremely hairy, brood cow with a beautiful udder. Starwest Pol King will be our last Kalibre bull to sell as we recently sold Kalibre to Pine Creek Simmentals. Kalibre was a reliable breeder and was our go- to bull when we didn’t know what to breed a cow to as his pedigree is one of the most outcrossed in the industry. We have over a dozen Kalibre daughters in the herd and just wait till you see their sons in the bull sale next year! Not only have the Kalibre daughters earned their keep on our farm, but his sons have been a hit in the commercial industry. Just recently, a Kalibre daughter sold to Ferme Gagnon at our Simpower heifer sale for $15,000. I genuinely could go on and on about Kalibre but the real gem in his pedigree is his dam. A couple years ago, we decided to purchase a horned herdsire who’s goal was to stamp his calves with unbelievable power and SBV Rambo 708G did just that. “Koren” is out of a young, polled Fort Knox female who caught our eye in Dan’s sale seeing as we own her maternal sister as well. One thing we really admire about the Rambo progeny is their temperaments. We have really focused on the temperament of our cattle the last couple years and have never had to cull a calf of his due to attitude. “Koren” is the perfect representation of how pleasant the Rambo calves can be. He will be a larger framed, easy fleshing bull who will produce market topping steers in the fall.

My favourite part of breeding season is having good old sires like LFE Inscription klcking around. A maternal brother to the renowned, SBV Reputation, LFE Inscription is one of the best footed herdsires on the farm. His calves are vigorous at birth, and have tons of hair. My favourite Inscription son in the pen is “Kresten”. Even though there’s only two catalogued, we do have more Inscription sons this year but decided to keep some bulls back for the “just in case” calls and will be happy to show them to anyone who tours as they aren’t just bulls that didn’t make the cut. This pedigree is a perfect example about what I mentioned in “Kyran’s” writeup. SBV Gem 434G throws incredible power thanks to both Thunder and Paydirt in her bloodlines and Inscription moderated her just perfectly. We bred another Paydirt daughter to Inscription as well and she raised us one of our top open heifers not to mention, both of our Friday Night Lights females were Inscription daughters. To say we are confident in his progeny, is an understatement.

Big hipped, wide topped, and striking are just some of the terms we’ve heard when going through the bull pen. We knew this calf was special the instant he hit the ground and liked him so much that we bred his dam right back the same way and it worked perfectly again, giving us another polled, full brother to “Lev.” SBV 333F is the type of cow that puts her all into her calves and still rebreeds early every year. She was purchased in that same group of cows to the dam of CKCW 258K just a couple bulls up and has done a tremendous job. She has really been a sleeper and we had underestimated her potential until the last couple years. You can’t make them much wider or much darker than “Lev.” He is scurred and still possess the polled gene, but the most important trait he possesses is quality and that you can take to the bank all day long.

Don’t let his age fool you, Starwest Pol Levi earned his page in the catalogue for a reason. I think this bull is just downright cool. His striking pigemtnation, his dark colour, he’s just got the look and he’s doing a fine job keeping up to a pen of bulls some of which are several months older than him. “Levi” comes from an excellent young Spitfire cow. If you are at all familiar with our program, you’ll know just how much we admire Double Bar D Spitfire and his progeny. This young bull has a bright future raising big time steers and him being polled is just a bonus. By the time you turn bulls out, he’ll really be a head turner with “stud” written all over him.

Missouri comes to you from one of my favourite cow families. Going back to one of our matriarchs, Lizzy, who not only raised some top females for us but produced one of our top bulls ever selling to the Erskine Colony in our first Future Legends Sale. We retired LIzzy a couple of years ago after she got stuck in a creek and was placed to rest a couple of weeks ago coming up to her 18th birthday. This was Valentina’s second calf and we can tell already she is going to follow in Lizzy’s footsteps. With 7/11 in Missouri’s pedigree as well, I can only predict good things to come out of this fella. Bistro is a bull that I proudly showed off when he was a calf to anyone who came through the pens. When he was about a month old , he looked 3 months old. He had exceptional growth at a young age. However, as life throws you curves as it did for everyone this past summer, even though he had a good weaning and yearling weight, I’m sure it would have been much higher if the conditions were ideal. I was tempted to keep him at home for my own use, but as it turned out we kept back a 7/11 son. Deep and soggy best describes this calf out of a cow with a phenomenal, picture perfect udder and feet. Pictures of bulls were taken early December.

Tremour is out of our old, dependable Mission bull that we used forever on heifers, and a good Beechinor cow we bought as a heifer and was one of two high sellers we got that day at their sale. Bee2 has given us a bull calf every yer and this current calving season is no exception. Her calves are usually one of the soggiest in the pen. I wish she would give me a heifer or two as she is a strong uddered female. Coming out of Mission, Tremour is one of her more moderate framed bulls and with an 87lb birth weight he should have some good calving ease. One of my favourite Bee2 bulls sold to KSL Simmentals a couple of years ago.

When I look at Armour I sit back and think what a terrible error I made when I forgot to register his dam when the crunch was on to get the paper worki in. Armour, in reality is a purebred bull going back years ago to a Bodybuilder son we owned. In cases like this, I will keep the male offspring if I know the cow family has proven itself to me. Armours granddam has given me numerous fancy heifers and I have kept them all so it was a no brainer to retain Armour and put him in the sale. His dam is a direct daughter out of Mission and is solid red to the toe with large facial goggles and a strong foot and udder. I’m watching his dam on the camera calve as I’m writing this and it looks like another awesome bull calf out of our new herd sire Black Gold Reputation 149K or as we call him Young Rep. If paperwork isn’t a big issue for you, you will get one heck of a bull for probably a reasonable amount of money. No guess work here. Unregistered half blood.

Senator comes from a cow family loaded with pigment. His granddam was solid black red except for a small band of white at the top of her foot. His dam is one fancy looking cow. If your’re looking to increase milk yield, this is the family to do it. Going back to Haldor 910A he produce some very feminine females and it was unfortunate we only had him for a short time before we lost him. Senator is another dark red bull with lots of hair and large testicle. Calves should stay on the moderate side as his dam and granddam were moderate sized cows.

Even though I love all my 7/11 calves I have been really, excited to write the footnotes on Governor. This is a bull I think is going to develop into a real meat machine and will get noticed in the pasture. His granddam is another favorite cow who surprise, surprise goes back to the Lizzy cow family. I have only sold one heifer out of all the females in all of these Lizzy cow families to Virginia Ranch a few years ago and she now has a new home at Skywest Simmentals. They’re too good to give up. I’m in the business of producing beef and these cows do it with 5 stars in my opinion. I can only imagine his potential if the feed situation was different. Governor is dark red with a ton of hair and a good set of testicles.

Nearly all of our sale bulls this year are out of second calvers and what a good job they did when thrown into the year they endured this past summer. 82K’s dam, Lexus, is a dark red, sweetheart of a cow that came from a dam that I ended up selling to my brother who wanted a tame cow for his kids to be around with. I’m thinking of buying her back when I see the calves she and Lexus are raising. Long spined cattle raise more beef and these cows have that and with 7/11 in the mix only sweetens this deal. I can see Lexus continuing to bring her sons into future sales and her daughters becoming top females in our herd. She has a bright future with us.

I have said over the years that there were many bulls that we owned were ones I thought a lot of, and still do, but if I only had one that I could use for the rest of my calving days it would be without a doubt in my mind 7/11. He has impressed me with his calves so much, with both the bulls and the heifers, I truly feel blessed to have owned him. He leaves his calves with a tremendous amount of thickness, quick growth, tons of hair, big feet and his dam has a picture, perfect udder. I feel it’s unfortunate that because of the difficult year these bulls don’t get to show their full potential. Trust me when I say you will be happy with the calves from these bulls. Although Cyanide is a bit smaller than the other 7 calves he is about a month to a month and a half younger than the rest but that didn’t stop him from having one of the highest rate of gain for yearling weight.

TWO YEAR OLD Chonky was actually catalogued in last years sale to be the lead off Sterling son. However, he ended up getting his foot caught in the corner of our feeder and ended up pulling the horn shell off of his outer digit. Even though AT NO POINT after this incident did he ever go lame, we didn’t want to take a chance for that to happen for his new owner while breeding and decided that it was best to leave him at home and let the horn shell regrow. Most ranchers who looked at him had no idea there was even an issue. We have !00% confindance that he will go out and work for his new owner. Chonky was a favorite calf last season because of his friendly attitude and natural thick, thick hind quarter. Once again Mission shows up in the pedigree via Sterling who had taken over for him as our new heifer bull. Even though Chonky has calving ease built in and is out of a heifer, because of his 92 pound birth weight we feel he would be best suited for second calvers. You’ll love the “get up and go” attitude these Mission calves have. It’s built in them to want to live after birth. His dam has a keeper 7/11 heifer in the pen.

OPEN HEIFERS
Love thus heifer. She’s just always been that one you pick out of the pen. Toyed with keeping her, but her dam is bred the same way and is young so hoping for more sisters. Liberty has a strong maternal side. The cows are all big cows that produce big calves. Note. As I’m finishing writeups Fern AKA “the dam” had a beautiful bull calf. Not heifer we were hoping for but he’s nice!!

Open heifers
This is the first time we’ve offered registered open heifers at our bull sale and these two come to you right out of our replacement pen. With having such a heavy heifer year, our heifer pen has gone through four rounds of culls so you know when we’re selecting out of that pen, we’ve dug deep. Starwest Khloe is a maternal sister to the donation heifer we offered in memory of my late husband a couple years ago. That heifer, “Heaven On Earth” has landed in the loving hands of Bovey Family Farms and is doing a tremendous job. “Khloe” is also the maternal brother to Starwest Pol Mojo who has had quite the impact at Langer Fleckvieh with some of his first daughters fetching over $10,000. Because of this, “Khloe” has a bit of a sweet spot with me and I feel she’ll turn out to be a dependable producer.
